  • Fall Television Lineup

My list of favorite TV shows has shifted this fall, mostly because all of my shows are on USA Networks and those shows only air in the summer (boo!!).

Since I know you’re dying to know what my favorite fall TV shows are, here is my newly updated list of favorite shows.  There’s one from each network, just to be fair:

    • Dexter (Showtime) – So good… whoever made the show must be so twisted.  I think it would creep me out to meet them.
    • Entourage (HBO) – Maybe my favorite show, largely b/c of Ari Gold.  How he can say all that stuff and not get sued is a testament to how badly people want to work in Hollywood.
    • The Shield (FX) – I love Vic Makey, although the show is getting a little too depressing as the series nears its end…
    • The Unit (CBS) – Well, half of this show is my favorite.  I only watch the scenes with the boys, I fast fwd the scenes with the wives.
    • Terminator (Fox) – Good stuff, although I haven’t seen the last few eppies.  Am slightly embarrassed to tell people I like the show, which is why I’m forcing myself to blog about it.
    • Smallville (The CW) – I like anything with Superman in it, despite the disappointment that was Superman Returns.
    • 30 Rock (NBC) – Tina Fey is God(dess).  I didn’t realize that she lost 30 pounds the summer before she started doing Weekend Update!  No wonder she is so down to earth – she has low self-esteem.
    • It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (FXO – Ok, FX has two shows on my list.  I almost took this off, but it actually may be my favorite show overall.  Consistently dark, amoral and twisted.  This list is making me feel a lot darker than I think I am.

I feel like I should also watch Mad Men on AMC because it gets so many raves, but in my defense I don’t know what number channel that is.  Also I did watch Bones last year, but I think I mentioned that in an earlier post and I want to sound new and interesting.  I have no interest in watching True Blood, because vampires gives me the creeps.  Why do girls love vampires so much?  Gross.

Amazingly, I don’t watch much TV these days… I just DVR and Hulu the above shows when I get the chance.  With all this new technology, it’s easier than ever to cherrypick the best TV shows.

What are you watching these days?

  • The Shield is amazing. That and the Wire I’d watch back to back.

Terminator is great. Also I loved the James Urbaniak cameo.
Dexter is alright…it’s not as wry as it wishes it was, but it’s a good show.

  • i like CNN and USA and TNT and sometimes scifi but not that often……

  • Out of your list I’ve only watched 30 Rock… Quite entertaining…

I don’t normally watch TV… It’s hard for me to stay with one show. Like every once in a while I’ll watch House but I don’t watch it on a weekly basis. Same with The Office… I guess you can say those are my favorite TV shows… But then I don’t even watch them enough… eh.

  • prison break ftw and omg 24 is comin back!

  • dexter! such a good series.

i’m enjoying heroes these days. :]

  • @iamthebella - Haha I love House and the Office, but I wanted to sound cool and different so I didn’t include them.

  • GASP no Gossip Girl =)

  • I watch uh…none of those.  My husband says I watch bad tv, you know like guilty pleasures kind of thing…

Currently, on my Tivo queue are Heroes, 90210 (I know, pathetic), Law and Order: SVU; Amazing Race, Cold Case, Project Runway (though I heard that’s the end of it), Top Chef (when it comes back on), Survivor, and sometimes Law and ORder: Criminal Intent.  :)

  • @lovesporks - I started watching Heroes, but it got so complicated… plus I increasingly can’t stand Hayden P (however you spell her name).  She thinks she is too cool for school… plus dating a 30 year old?  Both her and her bf gross me out now so it’s hard to watch.

  • I don’t want to admit to the shows I watch, I’ll get stones tossed at me. However, I will admit to How I Met Your Mother and Time Warp. Maaaaybe Big Bang Theory. I only have one guilty pleasure which I will not share. I love Dexter but I forget to watch it these days…

  • @ryu - I will never watch Gossip Girl… I am not exactly in the demo.

    @California_Gal - I love SVU!  It’s just that it’s all repeats lately, I think.  I think I’ve seen every L&O at least 5 times…

I can’t stand Cold Case, it always runs late and ruins my DVR recording of The Unit!

  • honestly, the first season of heroes was definitely the best, but as the series progressed, it went downhill. (yet i still watch it with hopes of it becoming better.)

& i’m mildly freaked out by hayden p and milo v dating. bleh.

  • oh! House and Scrubs too…although the new scrubs hasnt started yet…. and CSI LV.

  • I like “Life on Mars” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia ” on hulu.
I use to cry when they changed the fall line up every year, when they moved The Waltons to a different night I was crushed. Can you say ” Borderline Personality Disorder “.

  • @john - haha neither is Jonasapproved. Or I guess he might kinda be.

  • @seedsower - What is Life on Mars?  My DVR dl’d it for no reason, so I am wondering if my cable box is trying to tell me something.

  • i tivo family guy and robot chicken :) well sort of. it’s really my boyfriend who does

  • Nothing!  I’m never able to watch the tv in the dorm.

  • Dr. Who.  The new stuff is so good.

  • @john - That’s not a good reason to hate Cold Case!  Have you ever watched it??!!  Just add more minutes to The Unit. :D

  • @john -  HERE  . A modern day NYC cop was knocked back into 1973 NYC,Harvey Keitel is in it,I love him.

  • @California_Gal - I have seen the last 30 minutes of Cold Case many many times.  It bothers me that old people confess to cases they could totally have gotten away with.  If I murder someone, I am definitely not going to answer any questions about it at age 65!

  • @seedsower - Oh it sounds like I would love it.  Darn it…  I don’t have room in my life for another TV show!

  • all about the office!

  • I watch Gossip Girl, 90210 only for the old school actors, and True Blood! The Office sometimes as well. I have to share the tv so I don’t always get to watch what I want. Thank God for the internet! I love Vampires, well really only love one. Twilight!

  • I never really watched TV till I moved to college. Lately it’s been True Blood, 90210: the next gen, Gossip Girl and The secret life of the american teenager. :)

  • @john - Thanks for the warning.  I’ll be sure if we ever do meet to watch my back.  You’ll obviously have no remorse for killing me if I piss you off. 0_o  You’ll just take MURDERING me to the grave.

They aren’t all OLD.  Some of them happened only like 5-10 years ago!  :)   I still like the show. :)

  • hulu is <3
and I LOVE sunny in philly!

  • i dont watch tv lately too, thanks to xanga! LOL.

but i catch up on my favourite series online. (so i can switch tab back and forth to xanga. see, xanga AGAIN!)

  • @California_Gal - I promise not to kill you… although you’ve already paid for Lifetime Premium.  So where’s my incentive to keep you around?

Just kidding!  Love all around… and I’ll give Cold Case another chance.  Can you tell me what you like most about it?  That way I can watch the last 30 minutes of it next time with an open mind…

  • @john - Am I supposed to believe promises spoken by a possible MURDERER?  I don’t think so! ;)

And about Cold Case – you can’t watch just the last 30 minutes.  That’s completely why you don’t get the full effect of it!  I love seeing the past/present, seeing how people have changed and evolved since the time of the murder.  I like the ones focusing on the 80s and 90s the most, so maybe if you see the really old ones, skip it. haha. :)

Gah. All that drama about lifetime premium I read somewhere.  Yikes.  I didn’t realize how many people tried to make money off their blogs.  I added some google ad thing a while ago, but it hasn’t been working and I haven’t bothered to check why.  Obviously, I am not into blogging for the money.  And since I don’t blog regularly anymore, that’s probably a good thing. :)   I wouldn’t make much money…maybe enough for a pack of gum. HAHAHA

  • Am I allowed to say “Mythbusters”, “Dirty Jobs” and “Extreme Engineering”?

  • re: Tina Fey and low self-esteem issues. Have you ever seen the large scar on the left side of her face? That could really effect some people.

  • @esch99 - Heh there’s a whole blog out there dedicated to her scar… it’s kinda fascinating: http://scar-tina-fey.blogspot.com/

  • I’m watching Armed Forces Network (AFN) television since I’m out here in Russia.  I usually watch CSI reruns and then just because I’m too lazy to change the channel and since it comes on after CSI, I watch Oprah and then Dr Phil, but not if they are depressing or stupid that day.

I do like to catch a good Without a Trace or Cold Case now and then too.

  • House!  True Blood is the weirdest thing Alan Ball’s ever done – it’s car crash TV, and if he didn’t end it on a cliffhanger each week I’d probably stop watching.  The other thing is, it’s so beautifully filmed that I get sidetracked looking at the pretty scenery.

I don’t get to watch much TV in between working full time and doing my Master’s, but I need my fix of House and Heroes, and Silent Witness (another Brit drama, with hot forensic pathologists).

  • tonight “top chef” starts at 10 on bravo.

that and the office are my favorites besides sports

  • I’m not sure I watch any shows right when they come on anymore. My DVR has spoiled me bad.

  • I LOVE DEXTER!!! That’s my favorite show! =) Did you know in real life the actors playing Dexter and Deb are dating? Kinda gives me the creeps but yea I know they’re just acting and not related in real life.

True Blood is a lot of fun to watch, I love vampires!

  • When I’m in front of the tv it’s usually video games. Lately the new Madden online.

  • heros, gossip girl, 90210, privileged, food network, travel channel

  • isn’t dexter good!? the first season was the best. lila in the last one was so annoying. i was soo happy when he killed her ass.

  • john – sorry to say, but your cable box is not trying to tell you something.  haha. i dvr-ed things while i was there, but i guess i forgot to erase life on mars!  anyway, i’m liking that show more with each episode.  it’s about a nyc cop from 2008 who gets in an accident and wakes up in 1973, but the viewer and the cop don’t know why.  it’s interesting to see the different cultural attitudes and how the police department and cops operated back in day (not much regard to civil rights and such).  i also liked journeyman for the time travel aspect but it got cancelled.  =(

mad men is on amc, which should be channel 54, i think.  it’s also fun to see the culture back in the early 60s, and be thankful for how much has changed for women now.

as for true blood, although i love almost everything vampire-related, i don’t really the show too much.  but i’ve only seen about 3 episodes so maybe it got better.  i really watch way too much t.v.  :P

  • Always Sunny and My Name is Earl are my top picks.

  • Oh, sweet Hulu. =)

I am rather partial to AC 360.  But I never admit that in public, it’s my dark little secret….

  • @California_Gal - Top Chef starts TONIGHT!

@john - Let me warn you, I watch a lot of tv.  You should definitely catch up with Mad Men.  It’s an incredibly good show and the second season just ended so you have plenty of time to watch before the next season.  I’d also recommend Damages on FX.  The second season starts in January.  Also Breaking Bad on AMC, also starting again in January.  Regular network shows I’d pick are The Mentalist, Chuck and Fringe.

  • what? No Heroes or the office??

  • Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Prison Break.

Prison Break is not as good as it used to be in past seasons though. And I’ll be sad if Pushing Daisies gets canceled. =[ Heroes… yeah, it’s confusing. I have to watch it more than once to catch everything. Thank goodness for online streaming tv :D Makes my life a whole lot easier.

  • i watch the internet now,  everything on the box is generally slow

  • Bones, NCIS, Numbers, Heroes are my shows :)

  • grey’s and private practice. =D

  • “Terminator (Fox) – Good stuff, although I haven’t seen the last few
eppies.  Am slightly embarrassed to tell people I like the show, which
is why I’m forcing myself to blog about it.”

that’s a shame because this is is a really, really good show with great allegory. there’s a certain amount of depth with regard to destiny and free-will. the story and character development is amazing. i’m curious how this series plays out because while there’s certainly a lot more to themes to uncover, i just feel like this is a show that could easily run out of new ways to approach that. but then i’m reminded how a lot of the story is character-driven.

young john connor channeling his inner neo: knowing the path and walking the path. this is a show worth checking out.

oh yeah, ‘the office’ rocks also.

  • You’re missing out on the best show this season: FRINGE. O_O

  • I do not watch ANY tv except discovery and NatGeo.
The news is all  coverup anyway, they just report made up stuff or things they find important.
    Peh.
getting out and walking around the neighborhood is a good thing

    Have a happy day John

  • Dexter and 30 Rock are pretty much the only two shows I make an effort to keep up with!

  • If you do figure out which channel AMC is, you should probably watch Breaking Bad. Great stuff.

  • I can’t wait for 24 to finally come back. i cut back a lot. I only watch Entourage and True Blood. Sometimes How I Met Your Mother if I get a chance.

  • Yep HBO has it beat – the best shows are on that channel, I miss sex & the city, and I love Entourage,  is the best, Ari is the whole show – I was always a big fan of Jerome Piven —

I work late so I get to watch a lot of the later shows, Bill Mayer, Grey’s –

  • Dexter and Always Sunny, definitely!

Good thing your Master ain’t in control of cable and the networks…otherwise you’d be watching Gidget and Gilligan’s Island 24/7

  • Pushing Daisies and Desperate Housewives.

  • I am still stuck on The Office and House. For some reason I can’t stop myself from watching Gossip Girl but I wouldn’t exactly call it a good show, lol. It’s more like driving by a bad accident.

  • do people watch TV so much cause there’s nothing else to do…  I don’t get it

  • Hey Cyborgs are the BOMB!
