intrade
There’s an amazing site called InTrade which creates real-money stockmarkets based on politics and current events. So for example, you can trade “stocks” that represent the odds that Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic Presidential Nomination (it’s 51%, btw – Obama has a 30% chance while good ol’ Al Gore is amazingly at 10%!).
Some other predictions:
- There’s a 33% chance that Attorney General Gonzales will resign by next month… and a ~60% chance it’ll happen by the end of the year!
- There’s a 19% chance the US and/or Israel will launch an air strike against Iran by the end of the year
- There’s a 9% chance that Dick Cheney will resign before the end of the year
- There’s a 9% chance that George Bush will be impeached by the end of his term in office?!

wait, so can you make money?
intrade is based out of Dublin, which allows you to place trades/bets on things like this. But of course, it’s illegal for US citizens to place these sorts of bets. But not illegal to check out the site, and see the latest odds! I like to do that about once a week or so…
Ha!
only 9%? *sigh*…
(still, 19% to attack Iran? that’s a litle scary. any idea how acurate the site tends to be?)
So Intrade has reduced global politics to… a horse race?
given those odds….well, some of us can hope (regarding the bush impeachment).
it’s better odds than hitting snake eyes in vegas, which i rolled twice!
Sort of like betting on race horses it sounds like.
John Poindexter of Iran-Contra fame tried to start something like this for terrorism/assassinations. It’s an interesting idea, but I’m not sure I’d ever want to make money off it.
why is it illegal for US citizens to bet? it’s not like we have access to more info than people in dublin.
SATAN’s back
Amazed you’re promoting other sites…but what’s up with Xanga???
Was under the impression that Xanga was now OPEN to the internet RE: the commenting…but see you still gotta register
As you can see here: http://digg.com/users/EminemsRevenge/news/dugg used my Xanga link for my most successful digg post ever…and 50-whatever diggs is pretty good for someone NOT a political pundit [the next highest # of diggs is a Debbie Schlussel post...SHE appears on Stern & Fox "news" as well as writing in the NY Post and other Fourth Reich newspapers].
Hey, i’m out to be a lysergic version of Matt Drudge and it would help Xanga if non MEolgians like me could get comments from the various outside sources that we populate…any plans on making Xanga comment friendly a la Blogger???
God…don’t you ever sleep???
YOUR anonymous comment cam through, but when i tried doing it i was directed to a Xanga sign-up or register menu…same as in the old days. Is that because i’m already on Xanga and the cookies does it???
And since i’m comment whoring, put your answers on today’s post, or just message it to me
Did you know you can actually bet straight up on these things? Instead of buying stocks.. you can just do a straight bet.. i.e. Hillary Clinton will win the democratic nomination or she will not? 1 to 1 pay out.. lol
It reminds me of Celebdaq on the BBC website. All a game, no real money involved, but you buy shares in celebrities, which increase or decrease in value depending on supply/demand, and you gain dividends depending how much they’re in the news
Oh man.. I don’t really like the sound of all those predictions -_-;;;;;
i love murakami! but i don’t really care for politics or current events.
that is SO COOL!!!!i will check it out
Thanks for subscribing. I am glad you are here and apparently, from what I am reading, you are the reason I am able to be here in Xanga. If so, many thanks. It has meant a lot to me to be here.
