  • MORE FUN WITH BLOGRINGS


    Monsur made three final tweaks to blogrings over the course of this week, mostly to the Recently Updated tab:



    • Sites that have been Recently Updated now appear right away (well, within a few minutes at least)
    • We also started showing the time-stamp again, instead of just the date
    • Finally, we made the Recently Updated the default tab again

    We still have some more tweaks planned for blogrings, but they’re pretty small ones.  We’ll phase them in over the next few months.


    Overall, I have to admit – I wasn’t expecting this relaunch to change how I browsed blogrings.  But actually, browsing seems to be a lot more fun now!  Maybe it’s the profile pics… maybe it’s the new tabs…  maybe it’s that all blogrings have their categories listed on them?  I dunno, I can’t put my finger on any one thing.  But they just seem *fun* to me…  it’s been a big surprise.


    Please let us know how the new blogrings are treating you  Anything that particularly bothers you… or that you’re especially digging?

  • I have to admit … This does make browsing blogrings more interesting.  It is something that I didn’t do much of before, but may, now.

    Is it possible to delete a blogring that I started several years ago, but no longer wish to have?

  • I love the new browzing. You can base on who you’ll click and see on their profile pic and see who they are like. Like if someone has a Halo guy, you can tell he/she likes Halo. If someone has a smileyface you can tell he/she’s positive. Thanx!

    If you go to my site, you will see the first post listed with 10 rupees and 1 comment. However, there are, or at least there should be, three comments. It’s a weird bug. It happen when I attempted to delete two off topic comments from the post.

  • Thanx! Anyway, I have an idea. The Xangan features where you put currently ‘Playing’ or ‘Watching’ or ‘Reading’ You should also have ‘Gaming’ in there also. Lots of people play video games too. And even if you can’t really play video games and use the computer at the same time, its the same with reading, so you should add ‘Gaming’. Thats my idea. Anyway, thanx!

  • Good stuff. A well deserved eprop for you guys. Now to beef up the search engines, and the long awaited Your Blogrings and Sites You Read features in the Top 50? Also, as a previous person said, there seem to be a lot of similar – if not exactly the same – blogrings under different subcategories. Perhaps they should be reorganized? Sorry for being annoying, but hey… it makes the world go around, right? Or something. Please visit my site. And perhaps put it in the Xanga spotlight. I’ve applied like 25 times.

  • Hi, sorry to bother you again.  I hope you can answer a question for me.  My comments are not appearing again.  My question, is there an allotted (limited) amount of space in each specific blog for commenting?  in your software program.  Could that be why comments are not showing up.  My blog,  shows 25 comments but I can’t read them past the 21st I think is correct.  Again, I see the names in the module to the left and in my feedback, I can see the beginnings of the wording but feedback will not take me to them to read nor will the link NEXT or LAST.  So, I am thinking that the space for the comments is a limited amount.  My comments in number are small but the comments themselves are often lengthy.  Again, though, I know I have made and seen others make lengthy comments in for instance James blog.  He can see and read his.  What sense does all of this make.  The previous blog, my comments ran to 45 and could read them all.  I added a .jpg background for this blog, size is only 7.3kb and, I did some commenting myself in the blog and when it didn’t read as I wanted it to, I deleted it and redid it.  Anyway, my comments are not showing up again.  I am not running any fance scripts, none whatsoever except for the counter.  My html code is done in FrontPage and I use tables.  I play a .mid for background music and that is pulled off another site.  I just don’t get it.  I am going to default the page but, as my comments ran up to 45 two blogs ago, I ask again, what sense will it make.  It can’t be scripting in my page, if it were, the page would react the same way each time but it doesn’t and, no scripting.  I really could use some help guys.  I’ll work with you, let me know what you want me to do.

  • can someone help me? i have a question. on my xanga the e-prop thingy were people could leave e-propz like this isnt working i could see it when im fixing my site, but when its a public veiw there isnt that e-mail or e-prop stuff!

  • Hey, I know what I want as a new feature.

    I’d like to be able to look at the page which lists those users who subscribe to me, and be able to see at a glance the total number of subscribers. Currently, I have to count, and while the number is low enough to be able to count easily, I anticipate it getting high enough that I’d actually have to work at it.

  • Secrets is a good book.  I really had very little knowledge on the Vietnam War and this was a very interesting perspective on the entire situation.  I wonder if a similar book will come out regard our current war on terrorism.

    And yea, my comment box doesn’t work probably because of the count-up script I have in the header.  Sucks.  Do you know where I can get better count up script?

  • John, (Regarding Xanga Skinning)

    I don’t want to get technical right now, but I wanted to know if there was the default Xanga Skin code out there somewhere.  I want to use it to develope my own skin.  I just need it to know where to start.  (Placing things where they go, and what not.)  I hope you read this.

    i had xanga premium for about a year, and then it expired. it was all good.. once it expired, i figured out that it said, at the top of my page, how many days i had been on xanga, along with the “won’t you go premium?” link. after going premium for the second time – i realized that it doesnt say how many days i have been on xanga. is there any way possible to let premium users know, too, how many days we’ve been on xanga?

    hopefuly i explained myself in a good way. i dont mean for that to be rude, if it came off like that. just a suggestion. i like knowing how many days i’ve been on xanga.

  • hi john:D i’m quite happy with the blogring changes but i do have a request –

    you know how in the LOOK AND FEEL there are two alignment choices? (i.e. left-align and center). i’d really appreciate it if you could create a right-align option as well. when i have layouts that focus on the left side of the screen, it’s comfortable to have all the text on the right. do you think that’d be possible? please think about my suggestion and THANKS a million for all you do for xanga:D

  • I’m using a skin right now, and I really wish that (a) my private page would have the same look as my public and (b) that the look of the comments page would change as well. Skins would be more useful if we could apply them to the whole site and not just the public blog page.

  • i can no longer edit my posts.  i can get to the edit page, but when i submit, it just stops working.

  • when i preview from the “look and feel” section the dialog at the top that says “save these changes?” is blocked by the ad bar…i’m lazy and i don’t want to have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to click yes or no.

  • reading is for dorks.  my commute is about 1 hour each day.  i listen to audio books during the drive.  who has that much time to read?  between work, working out, meals, and the girlfriend…i got zero time bud.  i barely squeeze in 6-7 hrs of sleep.

    a place called cracker barrel rents audio books for $3.50 a week.  it’s a lot better than listening to the same monotonous music day in and day out.

    what can i do to get it back?
    they changed my e-mail address also so when i click forgot password to get my new one..
    it sends it to them.

    i think that when you change the e-mail and the password you should be notified on the old e-mail address and on the new one to help so people can’t hack them as easily.

  • Umm hi..since you and the xanga staff try to make xanga safe, well, I have a friend..prematureangel7, her little brother is about 8 years old which means he is not supposed to sign up for xanga since hes NOT 13. He knows some of my friends passwords and messes up their sites. His site is poketamer and kirbynumbu2. Can you please stop him or block him from xanga or give him some warning?

  • Ok, I will try to create a blogring, and it tells me it is an invalid name, then one of my friends will try the blogring with the exact same name on their screenname and it works, I only have three blogrings so I don’t understand why it would work for her and not me.

  • more blogring is awsome….xanga should have a reply box where someone can reply to someones comment instead of going to there xanga than leaving them the message as a reply its faster and alot more technical..

  • can you make it so you can kick people off your blogring, mine (!@! Hack Xanga Code !@!) has an annoying person in it, and I’d like to delete him/her off. You’ll be able to tell because it has this big long picture and whatnot…

  • *frowns*  I just had to re-join a blogring I started a while ago “The Deadstar Show”  when I did not re-new my premium, my ‘extra’ blogrings at the time were removed, and that one was one of them.

    It was weird bc at first it said if I went to the blogring to see what was up, it said I was joined, but I was not on the list.  Then last night or the night before I clicked on it and it gave me the option to join, do I did, but now I am not the ringleader, which is rather disappointing. =0(  I read that there is no way to put me back as a ringleader, I can only re-join, but it still upsets me bc I never left to begin with.  You’d think way back when you were only premitted 4 as a non premium user, that when you were no longer premium, you would not lose a blogring you were a Leader of, it would snap you out of the ones you were just a member of to reduce your ‘allowable’ quota.

    I am sure there is an email somewhere I can send this to, but when it first occured (when I went from prem. to classic and then back to prem.) I emailed and received no response.

    Also, I miss that when I ‘edit’ my subs, I can not tick off a group of said subs to change how I read them (online, email etc) or delete several at one time.  I have to edit each one individually, even if I am doing the same changes/or deletions for several.

  • Hello . . . Okay . . . This isn’t really about the blogring thing, but I still have to give yo guys kudos for that, cuz I think what you guys did is awsome . . . Anyways . . . My free trial of premium just ended, and I think it messed my site up a bit . . . My music refuses to play, and a few of my codes are not working properly . . . I’ve checked the FAQ section, and none of my problems apply to the situtions you have there . . . My music hosts are valid, and the urls from them work just fine on our school’s key club site . . . I honestly don’t know what wrong, but is there some way it can be fixed??? Thanks. – Dorothy

  • Hi, I found a code on blogring.net to add an extra module @ the bottom of my xanga. I wanted to use it for an in memory sort of thing for my friend who recently passed away. I was just wondering. . am I going to get in trouble for having it there? I wasnt sure if you guys allowed it or not. It’s up right now but if you guys don’t want me having it there I will take it off. Please get back to me asap. Thankyou.

    Can you kindly add some administrative function (For example, grant permission to the ringleader to kick someone that we do not want him to join our ring) for the ringleader in the blogring? There is someone who created an account and used it to embarrass a classmate. I dont want him to continue in our ring. Moreover, can u add a private status to the rings and those who want to join need an invitation from the members?

  • problem though minute.  i have been a xanga member for about 100 days and recently (around day 78 or so) i stopped receiving my subscription and site emails.  i do not get them ever.  i was wondering if this was some belated stoppage due to my failure of purchasing premium or if this was just a chance screw up.  hopefully you see this and help me out.

  • Dear John and Xanga team I hope this comment gets answered but I know how busy you guys are… I really love Xanga and I depend on mine for schoolwork and my e-zine fairly heavily, however there are some user options that other blogging clients provide that I’m reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllly coveting. The major one being that I really wish that non xanga users could comment on our pages . . . is that a possibility in the near future?
