  • BLOGRINGS TWEAKS


    Thanks to everyone for your feedback on blogrings!


    We got a lot of feedback about the Recently Updated tab: it’s not registering new updates properly and also, we stopped showing the time-stamp.  We have a fix for both in the works, and hope to get it in place early next week!


    Two things that we can fix right away:



    “You erased the descriptions.  The ringleaders have to type it over.”  Oops, I’m sorry – we made a mistake Saturday when fixing another issue.  The descriptions should be back – although if you’ve re-typed them, your new one will still be there.


    “[I]t’s not letting me join any blogrings over the 4 I have.  I click to join and the page just refreshes.” This turned out to be a browser-specific issue that only occurs for some users (it was a miracle we found the cause!).  We changed how it worked, so the join button should now work for everyone.


    We’ll fix up the Recently Updated tab early next week.  As for the other two fixes… looking better?

  • Good to see that you guys are updating, but I still feel the new blogrings are problematic. It might be nifty to see a person’s profile picture, but the content is more important. Maybe there should be a short excerpt from the latest entry? I guess that’s what the profile is for. Anyways, can’t wait until the recently updated list becomes the default again.

  • To me it looks as if the “Recently Update” tab is working, although I’m too lazy to actually check. One of the blogs does register as having been updated 5/15/04 though, which is promising.

    Any word on making the default tab the updated tab though?

  • you spent a while updating it. then did you preview it or did you just finish it off? b/c when you update systems it’s just fine

  • Please maake it easier to leave an old blogring and join a new one when you’re at the maximum capacity.

    This is the way it USED to work: 1>I click ‘join’, a page pops up asking me to which blogring i want to leave, 2> I click my ring of choice, a page tells me I’ve left and asks me if I want to join the blogring I clicked ‘join’ on earlier, 3> I click yes.

    Please change it back.

  • well… i think its nice.. but i liked it when ther was a list of blogring members ordered by most recent updates..

  • you should make it so you can edit the order in which your blogrings appear on your xanga, but otherwise, kudos for the good work!

  • This may be way out of your abilities, but there really needs to be some pairing down with the rings. Even a quick look through will show that there are about 30 different rings that are about the exact same thing—the only difference being some of this (((**”~~~]]}{ crap.
    That sort of redundancy is like searching google and ending up with pages and pages of nothing but links to other sub-par search engines. Serious bloggers want real meat!

  • well…for one…the recently updated thing doesnt work…even after i click the tab…it doesnt show who has ACTUALLY most recently updated…it shows who had most recently updated when you made the change…
    and you should make it so that recently updated is the first tab…because that’s the one people actually USE

  • i love xanga, thank you guys so much for actually keeping it free.  i’m a paying premium member, but i have no complaints about the costs.  i sincerely hope that recently updated thing gets fixed soon, just because that’s how i keep tabs on sites i read (its easier than subscribing for me).  but hey, i understand how much work it must be.  one question thought…last week, i clicked on a random site, and it brought up a weird page saying i’d been “h4x0r3d”, and when i went to my xanga page later on, ALL of my html was gone, and it wouldn’t let me change the look and feel.  after a day, i could redo the look and feel, but i saw a few other people with the same exact problem.  any ideas on what that was?

    if you get back to me, i appreciate it.  if not, i understand :)

  • Hey, don’t listen to the jackasses that say you can’t code. They can’t either. That’s why they’re on Xanga. I appreciate the stuff you guys do that makes it easy and convenient to keep in touch with friends, and I’m glad that you’re working so hard to improve the blogrings feature.

  • hey.. something besides the blogrings..

    The Xanga Ad is using a DIV layer? Some people find it annonying as it messes up their layouts, and if you have a:

    body { margin:0px; }

    in your CSS, the y-scrolling gets messed up. If you’ve placed a DIV code, the ad sometimes covers a portion of the blog. Could you comment me back on the ad?

  • Love the new blogrings, but the recently updated seems a little screwy.  It doesn’t actually point to the most recently updated.  Well, it does, up to the 13th.  Can this be fixed?  That would make us best friends.  Oh, and you want to be my best friend.  Believe it.

  • awesome job guys. one thing though, adding the “9th” blogring is more complicated now. you have to leave the 8th one and then after that you have to manually find the ring you wanted to join again. before after leaving the last ring we were automatically added to the one we wanted to join. any way of fixing this? thanks!

  • Is there anyway to submit ideas for new features to the Xanga team?  Or should I just post it here?

    I may as well just post it here and save a step, since you would have to reply to this somehow anyway.

    I’d like a way to be able to save different Xanga “Look & Feel”s.  Because sometimes I want a new layout, but I want to be able to easily switch back to my old layout without having to write down everything and type it back in again.

    I can’t imagine it would be that difficult to do, LiveJournal already has a similiar feature, I think.  (Though it’s been a long time since I’ve LJ’d, so I could just have faulty memory).

  • I agree too. If you could make the ‘Recently Updated’ tab a default one it’ll be sweet.

    By the way, when are you gonna give more powers to Ringleaders? I’d sure like a lot of power now!

  • Well a few of the many suggestions i’ll give is for the ringleader able to change the time for recently updated, and have a choice whether to show profile pics, etc. etc.

  • Though I love the new look, I was just thinking it would be better if the “Recently Updated” tab was first instead of the “Join Date”…that way, users who update frequently are shown, rather than some who probably don’t update at all.

  • John, the blogring I joined yesterday (which I’d not visited before), I had to use FireFox.  Today, I did as you asked and tried to join a blogring I had not visited before while using IE.  I was able to join and unsubscribe.  Hope this helps.

  • Hi! Can you add a feature which the ringleader can easily email or comment all the ringmembers simultaneously? This would facilitate a better communication with all the members of the respective ring a well as form a more cohesive community. Thanks!

  • i’m a ringleader, but i REALLY want to change the name of my xanga site… i’ve had some people reading it that i dont want reading it…….  is there ANY way for me to do this without loosing my ring leader status?????? 

  • can someone help me…. I’m a blogring leader, and when my premium account expired, and then was renewed, one of my blogrings did not re-list. It still exists, and I’m still the leader… what do I do?
