  • MAC AND XANGA

John, Your xtools hasn’t worked for a few people I know with Macs – myself included – for at least a day or two. Before that, when I was able to post, xtools took an inordinate amount of time to load.  What’s up with that?  Why is xanga so far behind for mac?  It’s seriously uncool for myself and others to be paying premium fees without premium benefits. …

    Sorry about that, Rich!

A few days ago, someone created the username “css”.  For some arcane reason, that created a conflict with our xtools stylesheet that seemed to only impact Mac users.

We fixed it, but in doing so we made another change that also only impacted Mac users.  It’s not a conspiracy, I swear!  Well maybe a bit of one: we don’t have a Mac available for testing in the office, due to budget limits.

Also… Microsoft hasn’t upgraded the Mac IE browser in years.  However, there is new hope!  Apple’s new Safari browser is a huge improvement… and Apple seems more dedicated to upgrading Safari than Microsoft is to upgrading the Mac IE (imagine that!).

SOOooo…  we are in a much better position now to support Macs.  We’re redoing xTools now, and we’re working hard to make sure it supports Safari.  It’s too early to tell how much xTools functionality we can cram into Safari, but we’re hopeful.  Janet tested out the new Subscriptions interface at the SoHo Apple Store, and it looked great!

In the meantime, we just fixed that final css bug for Macs.  Sorry about that…

  • Wow! great! awesome! Thanks! :) i’m glad i’m not the only one who had this problem, yeah i just tried safari and it worked great! you guys are great! haha thanks again!

  • For so long, xanga and mac have been such a contradiction in terms that I hope you’ll forgive me if I keep my elation quietly restrained until such a time as there is an actual, tangible reason to strip off my shirt and go dancing in the streets…

Meanwhile, I’m off to make a new site with the username ‘xTools’ and see what happens….

  • Eek! That had never occured to me that making such a user name could wreak such havoc.  *jots down note in margin of CSS chapter in web dev textbook

  • I’m not a Mac user, but bravo! Good job you guys.

  • thank you so much!!!

  • Yes, thank you so much! It works just fine now. And I will probably switch to Safari, on your recommendation.

  • This is GREAT news. I was able to load xTools after this was fixed. Thanks for the quick response! I thought something was wrong with my specific computer…but it was all macs. Not surprising…Here’s hoping they make Final Cut Pro for PC so I can go back!

  • cool. thanks.

  • microsoft has stated that they would not be doing any more IE updates for the mac…however…Netscape 7.0 is a beauty…and it blows the socks off of IE anyways, so you should really work on getting x-tools for netscape……it looks the same for both mac and pc…and i’d be ever so happy if i could have my x-tools at home so that i could blog on my own time.

  • How about a similar update on Mozilla compatibility? I’m feeling kinda left out…

  • sounds like a great plan… keep us posted :)
