A need for speed?
Please do the following experiment for me.
Click on this link to go to your editor… and as you do, time how many seconds your editor takes to come up:
Then type it in below as a comment… and also, give your sense for how fast or slow the editor seems to you.
Thanks!
Johnps hey guys, just to clarify: I don’t mean, is the editor faster or slower today; we haven’t changed anything about the editor in a long time. I mean in general, does it seem fast or slow to you overall…
Comments (114)
About 8 seconds the first time, about 2 when I tried again.
Around 4 to 7 seconds.
two seconds.
@gowan @Xcholo4u @japanika - how did that feel to you… fast? slow? didn’t really notice it either way?
It was about 5 seconds, which seemed a bit slower than usual to me.
on my ffx i didn’t notice any diff in loading speed. but on ie6 it was quicker! i use ie6 most of the time for blogging, and it def felt quicker. 2 or 3 seconds.
a second or less
about 3secs.. very fast
2 seconds
8 seconds. I always felt it was a little slow, but I don’t mind it.
@john - There was not much of a difference.
3 – 4 sec but I am at my work computer. I got the cheapest DSL possible.
4 seconds or so. I suppose it might be a bit slow, but not annoyingly so (unless I’m on dial-up – then everything is slow!)
Seriously, though – I really don’t mind it!
Oops – forgot to answer the second part of the question. Seemed pretty fast to me.
11 seconds for me, on an empty cache, but I have a pitifully slow internet connection.
if that’s the case, i guess the speed is more dependent on web traffic at certain times of the day. i’ve never felt the editor was loading slowly. but it did seem a bit quicker just then.
2 seconds for me.
@john - 8 seconds seemed slow, but I don’t blog much, I mainly comment, so it could have been fine for all I know. When I tried again (after everything had been loaded into my cache, I suppose), it seemed zippy in comparison.
@john - about 4 seconds ..somedays it seems slow but today that link made it seem fast.
LOL btw if I can make a request it would be that there were more color options on the themes…..
About 2 seconds, it popped up pretty quickly.
Does it depend on your internet service?
About 8.. the older one was faster
A second or so – pretty normal. But I agree with above – I would guess it depends on your ISP.
Less than one second.
10 seconds, a little slow
Very, very fast. I was at “One Miss-i-s” when it popped up. Half a second, less?
Fast – about 5 seconds.
11 seconds, and 11 seconds on reload. i’m on 3mb conn… WTF?! O.o
With it still in cache, about 14 seconds…with no cache, about 34. It’s always been slow to me. But about two weeks ago, it really started to drag.
around 10 seconds (over a really, really fast fiber connection) – overall it seems quite slow
5 seconds. It seemed a little faster than usual.
between 3 and 6 seconds
It seems very quick to me
About 5-7 seconds, but it feels longer because I always put my cursor into the Title box and in the middle of typing my post title it shifts focus to the Post box, so half my title ends up in the wrong place and I have to put the cursor back into the Title box to finish.
By the time it let me type text, it took about 18 mississippi’s give or take a mississippi…
And you may not have made any changes in a long time, but it did seem to come up faster today than it normally does.
5-10 seconds to get mostly loaded or fully loaded. If I wait 15 seconds, then I can edit without any problems or delays.
(it’s about the same on the two computers that I normally use. 1 is a LAN connection and the other a cable-broadband connection).
Speed is not a problem, problem comes when I switch between the “edit HTML” modes. Every time I click it the stuff typed on the screen disappears. Also having problem with the add photo/ add link boxes, nothing copies and pastes like its supposed to and then when I manually go to edit HTML the entry clears.
4 secs here at school in the computer lab, which is plenty fast. At home it’s a little longer. It seems to me to be fast enough; not very fast, but fast enough. The part of xanga that gets on my nerves is the frontpage. If I type xanga.com to sign in, that part can take half a minute to upload and allow me to press enter and sign in.
12 seconds
10 minutes and 32 seconds
About 7 seconds. It actually seemed kind of slow, though if put into perspective that’s about the time the top sprinters take to run 60 m indoors.
It took one second. Most of the time it is fast enough. 1-5 seconds usually.
Any glitches that take longer I chalk up to my browser’s problems. That may be wrong, but when I restart it works fine. I used to have trouble with pics and vids when saving the post. That took the longest time. Many times I have had to copy and paste into another window to get the entry posted. However, that has not happened in months.
Hope all is well.
about 5 seconds…
36 seconds. I am on HughesNet now…so this is actually a vast improvement to our former dial up.
Holy cow, my results are incredibly slow compared to everyone else’s: nearly 30 seconds, on the blazing fast connection at work. This computer is pretty old, though.
The editor often seems slow to me, and sometimes won’t load at all…but that’s at home, where I have a monumentally slow connection.
about 15 sec on my gf’s laptop on a high-speed connection. i’ll check it at school tomorrow too and see how long it takes on their superfasts.
it’s always seemed slow to me, but not so much that it prevents me from using it.
It was almost instantaneous.
less than a second
7 seconds… and once it was up is seemed fairly quick.
well at home on both compys its fast at work it varies but like 8 at both locations
2 seconds
@tlm0000 - Same here.
Probably because the computer lab internet is slow lately. Although at home it would probably take two seconds less.
3 zoom!!!!
took like 2 seconds and seemed fast overall to me
5-7 seconds. i’ts alright i guess. could be a bit faster though.
about 12 seconds….seemed like a normal time frame for me. Didn’t seem any faster or slower.
21 seconds and then it couldn’t find the server
it took about 4 seconds for everything to be fully loaded.
a little slower than normal 15 secs
Very fast.
2 seconds to load
3 seconds before I could type in the window
about 8 sec.
8 secondsa here, seemed decent
7 seconds for anything other than a white page to show up. 17 seconds for the painfully slow javascript to finish loading so I can actually type something in the box.
Windows 98
Firefox 2.0.0.11
DSL
Gosh that was slow… 3 seconds or so
Macbook, Firefox 2.0.0.11
About three seconds. It’s usualy “slow”.
yikes..21 seconds.. but that is how long it usually takes lately….gosh my pc is so slow…:( and I have cable** take care, Lee
12 seconds. But I am on a wifi, and things are generally slower. The thing that bothers me, is that a lot of times I think the editor is up, and begin to type my title, and while I type it ‘finishes’ loading, and my curser jumps down to the edit box instead of staying in the title.
it took about 3.5 seconds.
slow. 14 seconds unitl i can type anything.
7 seconds. faster is always better, but I think it’s plenty quick
3/4 of one second. (“one one-thou…”)
took about 5 seconds
I’d say 3 or 4 seconds to open for me. I don’t recall ever having any problems with opening speed.
5 seconds….
8 seconds. Seemed a bit slow.
2-3 seconds.
Other factors for consideration?
Mac, firefox.
Still 2-3 seconds.
Good.
i’ll seriously lick your toes for creating xanga, i’m not even gay, but i’d do it just to make you giggle.
with a little tickle.
and maybe you’ll wiggle.
i’m a rapper G.
bloody funtastic
Two seconds about, it seemed about the same
8 seconds….but i would blame the speed or lack of on my computer :]
From when you click the link to when the editor is done loading, it’s always under 10 seconds. That’s not really slow. It’s never to the point where I want to shoot myself because of it (remember 56k???). If you can make it faster, sweet! If not, I think we’ll survive the agonizing 2-10 seconds of loading time.
7 seconds that’s . . . but usually it’s much slower
5-6 seconds for me. sliiightly slow imo.
5-6 secs is enough for me to forget what i wanted to write about in the first place.
i have a small buffer.
overall,it’s quite slow…i hate waiting for it..
about 1 second. It felt pretty fast.
2 seconds or less – almost immediately.
7
7 seconds; seems slow (actually, to me, it always seems slow. That’s why I don’t post as often as my husband does on our xanga. I lack patience.
)
I have slow dial-up, generally it seems to take forever to load for me. Just now @ 9:32pm – it only took about 10 seconds, pretty quick for me lol.
about 7. noticeably slow.
It took about 10 seconds the first time and 3 seconds the second and third time.
Fast lol, couldn’t count it as it was probably less than a second…
it literally took me three seconds. but sometimes when i go from my computer and i have something already typed up and i paste it too soon, it takes forever, it seems.
but that just might be my computer.
overall, i’d say xanga usually works faster than myspace and facebook, so that’s definately a bonus.
promise.
<3
20! i have a $h**ty isp. =(
it seems to load pretty quick for everyone else.
About 4 – 5 seconds for me. It seems fast enough, but I find the focus jump to the main body field after load to be annoying. Often jumps while I’m in the middle of typing the title. I always have to erase what I typed in the wrong field and go back to the title to finish it.
1 second.
strange to see how fast it is today. a few days ago when i was trying to update my weblog it took more than a minute…
i don’t know if that’s due to time or the difference between IE and firefox or whatever…
three seconds for me
To fully load: 3-4 seconds on IE, 1-2 seconds on Firefox…and here at college we’ve got a wicked fast internet connection
I think it took about 19 seconds for mine to fully load – That is, before I get to start typing.
But then again, I have quite a few applications running and my comp is pretty slow.
4 seconds,it was plenty fast for me.
it took approximately 2.5 seconds….i thought it was very fast…but then again, i’m on a LAN at work at the moment, so i would expect it to load that fast.
14 seconds before it is fully loaded.
3.5 Mississippis – seems fast to me!
Less than a second, loads at the same rate as all my other “normal” webpages (those not filled with pics/extras)
I counted 4 seconds. Actually came up on 4 so I guess that’s 3 seconds.
about 2 secs
1 second
about 2 seconds
i like fizzy drinks
It took me about 8 seconds to load the editor.
What bothers me sometimes about the loading speed is that I will see the box to type the post and the box to type the title, but all the tools between the two boxes haven’t come up yet. I’ll start typing a title, and then suddenly all the tools jump into being. At the same time, my cursor jumps into the box of the post, and I have to click on the title box again to finish typing the title.
In general, it doesn’t load quickly, but it doesn’t really take terribly long to load either, and after my first couple of experiences with the moving cursor, I learned to wait. Since then I’ve had no complaints with the load time.
5 seconds not bad
one mississippi
About 14 secs to start typing.
which seems slow, but about normal.
4 seconds – thanks for all the tweaking u do – much appreciated.
7~9 seconds.
I am living in HK.
