FULL USER BLOCKING
Ever since we launched footprints, we’ve gotten emails like this one:
Hi, I have recently blocked a few users
from my site, and it shows that they can still visit my site. I thought
blocked users cannot see my webpage? It turned out, a good number of you thought the same thing!
Our current Xanga block feature
actually prevents blockees from being able to comment/subscribe to your
site… but they can still read the posts. We’ve always
wanted to support a full user block, but have struggled with the technical issues. But we’ve had some technical breakthroughs here at Xanga HQ and if all
goes well… soon we’ll be able to offer FULL BLOCKING of users!
It will work exactly like the email described above. We’re still
working out all the technical issues, but we’re optimistic.
Just wanted to make sure everyone felt the same way as our emailer
above, before finishing up programming. Does full user blocking
sound OK to you?

Sweet!
good thing to have on xanga.
Yesssssssssssssssssss
Absolutely!!
SWEEEEEEET!
Beautiful!
Yes!
Definitely. But what’s to stop people from making multiple accounts to get around it?
Pretty sweeet.
It’s more than okay!!!
I am excited for the prospects.. I can’t wait to see the finish product.
-Sarah0
The way to get around this unfortunately is to simply create an account on Xanga. I’ve never felt the need to block anyone from reading my entries. I’ve only blocked one person from commenting and I find that feature good enough for my needs.
OMG. orgasmic.
I’ve got two people in mind.
wonderful.
What great news!
What about an exclusive friends-only Xanga? Otherwise let it lead to the profile or something.
YES
good idea. but seems easy to get around.
Yeah, what about people with multiple accounts just for stalking and such?
Or what if they just sign out, and then look at your site? That’s when the “Xanga Lock” thingy comes in handy, I guess.
This is good.
you mean the css/javascript/blacklist trickery i’ve had to resort to will no longer be needed? nice. btw i keep forgetting to complain abt the xangazon “now listening” bug that showed up a few editor iterations ago. you chose your “now listening”, make your post, then later you go back to edit your post, save it, and the “now listening” is gone as if you’d reset it. i always have to reset and choose the album again every time i edit the post. very annoying.
hahah.. haven’t needed to use this yet, but… woohoo!
next up…. full site (google) search, okay? =)
Sounds great to me. In fact I thought it already worked like that. Shows how often I block someone I guess.
awesome!
YES!!!
–End of Line–
Well, one way for users to get around this is to simply log off or go onto another username. What I assume you have in mind is blocking IP addresses of certain users, but that could end up blocking an unintended audience. I’d be wary of any kind of blocking system that uses IP addresses. Simple usernames, however, seems good enough, even though it’d be a marginal improvement.
OK? Sounds absolutely fantastic!! Go! Go! Go!
I’m for it. Way to go!
Dr. Carasco
Finally.
It’s WAY more better than “okay”.
I assume that people can still get around it by signing out or using a different account name, but just making it more difficult for them … that works for me.
will it block usernames or the ip address?
THANK YOUU!!!
OMG I NEEDED THAT SOO BAD
this isn’t gonna work.
I don’t really like it. For example, what if someone ends up writing your phone number and address all over their xanga and you never find out because you were blocked? *gasp*
Good job
YAAAAAAAY!!!
yep…
A new account or not logging in would easily bypass this, unless you decided to make blocking based on IP addresses.
I’m sure the ‘waaah people are harassing me’ crowd will appreciate it, but it’s ultimately futile. like others have said, anyone can just make a new account to get around it.
yes….that would certainly make sense.
sounds like a plan, I hope you’re going to do it on an ip basis rather than a site name basis.
y’know… being the stalker/hater/nut-magnet that i am… this should be a knee-jerk ‘yes’ for me. but if there’s a will, there’s a way. if someone is determined to stalk… they’ll probably create a new screen name, or some other way to circumvent. and i agree with ‘karanis’… if we’re blocking IP addresses of certain users, it could end up blocking the unintended.
after a while, my stance is this — if you dont want people to read your xanga… don’t blog at all. or blog in the private mode. if blogging for the public is your thing… you’ll have to take the good with the bad.
it sounds like a great idea
Sweet!
I LOVE YOU JOHN!
…I thought I commented this..??? Any ways it cool
YES!
I know it’s been said before…but I doubt there’s no COMPLETE user blocking…maybe there’s a way to increase number of users we can add to the protected people list? Just a thought…
YAAAYY!!!!
Yes.
keep up the good work you guys, this would realy be nice to have
this mixed with xanga lock should work u guys
sounds great
I like the idea,
But what’s to stop a user from not being logged in and accessing the site via the homepage address?
Or will we no longer be able to view a xanga without being logged in?
That’s what I would like to see.
A non-member not being able to see my Xanga.
There should probably be an option for both…
Sounds wonderful!!!
Hope you can offer it
OK, IF you are listening, HOW are we to be able to block users that can ‘hide’ behind the great wall of footprints that you’ve given them? I have a list of usernames that are ALL from one or two static ISPs, but NOW they ‘hide’ under that glorious ‘footprints’ feature. I know they have been there, I can tell from the ‘footprints’ patterns, but I do NOT know what the username is. John, this has gone on for a LONG time. Every feature you guys make to stop it, you leave BIG holes in for the ones who like to create problems. The only way this new feature can work properly and without a ‘way around’ is if you ALSO take away the feature that allows footprints to allow usernames to be unknown. Make THAT ability not part of this upgrade, and make it a users choice to use or not use, and your ‘full user blocking’ will be another measure that does not even slow them down. Please make a feature that WORKS. 6 years is too long.
Absolutely! Yes, I’ve always wanted that. I put my own blocker script on my page to keep a certain someone out, but the page still loads.
On a related note, what is Xanga’s policy on stalkers or harassment. For example, if someone keeps creating new accounts to view your site.
full user blocking sounds amazing. I’ve always been severly annoyed/disturbed about people I don’t know, and not responding, visiting my site daily.
THANK YOU
-meagan
John, this is a step in the right direction, but what is to stop someone from simply creating a new screen name and continuing? I’ll grant that my suggestion of IP address blocking is not the ultimate solution either but it would make it a lot harder to harrass someone if a person had to change their IP address as well as their screen name.
But this is great news none the less – I’m glad to see xanga is taking this issue seriously. And it is appreciated.
hooray for full blocking!!
yes plz. but um, how will that work?
/signs out of xanga
/visits “blocked” site
or
/changes computer
but you did say “technical breakthrough.” I suppose we’ll all find out the big news soon!
It’s about time!
it sounds wonderful.
thanks.
Before Xanga Lock I would have gone “Errrr……. come again?” But hey, sounds like you guys have thought of everything. Right on.
that’s sounds great. boy am i glad to be on xanga
peace!
i think its an overkill
Now, will the RSS feeds be unavailable to those we block?
yes!!!!!!!!!
Yes, definetly!
yeah, that would be awesome. I have some pesky people keeping tabs on me and I want to get rid of them.
I can see where you might be able to prevent someone logged into xanga from visiting the page. But to truly prevent one person from reading the page, the xanga writer surely has to prevente all people not on the protected list from reading the page. Otherwise, the person just gets another xanga, right? Or for that matter, just uses any one of the dozens of RSS readers or read without logging into xanga.
That would be very beneficial. I can think of a couple of people already.
-Guru on the Hill
I think it sounds fabulous~!!!
if it rids me of bothersome folks its…the faster it comes the better!
I would LOVE a full blocking program. The javascript work arounds just aren’t decent enough!
definitely in support of full user blocking
yep
YES SIR! I thought when you blocked someone it blocked them from looking at your xanga!!
In the words of Martha “that’s a good thing”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That will be fantabulous!
More people should stick around here instead of migrating to my space. i hate it there, I’m a Xanga babe for sure.
Well, I’m with Chris, but it’s a step forward.
yes!
Good concept, but what’s to say that someone can just sign into another Xanga if he/she really wants to view someone’s Xanga.
I’m not exactly sure how this is different from private posts. Right now you can have a provate post where no one can see it unless they are on the safe list. I guess the difference is that you will be able to have a public post that blocks a certain user, but only if they are logged in as themselves. If they’re not logged in, they would be able to see it, right? It might work, if they didn’t know they were being blocked, but otherwise would it?
I”m just thinking. I don’t really care either way.
So wait… does this block them if they’re not logged in as a Xanga user too? What’s the prevent google searches and cacheing? Don’t understand all the hype about this issue if a “stalker” can simply just logout and look at your public blog as an anoyomous user. Can you clear out what the “Full” blocking really does and doesn’t do?
Good move, even though some of us know that its not really possible to do, if the person has a bit of teck savvy. But it makes things harder on the jerks out there
absolutely f—in GREAT!!!!
yes its sounds good to me!
No blocking really works because there are plenty of people sad enough to just go make a shell account to visit your site…
awesome.
hell yes!
it’s about time!
Oh yeah, it does! Bring it on!!!!!!!
Yea, sounds like a good idea.
It might be more trouble than its worth (considering you can just protect a post), but might it be possible to stop everybody from viewing your entire site, except for those on a certain list? I mentioned it above, but like a super-protected feature kind of thing.
RYC – John, it’s good to hear from you on this. And as per your comment that is exactly what we both are saying – I’ve said it in my previous comment that I believe this new system is taking things a step in the right direction, but to truly be able to combat harassment we need blocking at the IP level along with moniet’s idea of a Footprints Lock. I do realize that these changes will not happen overnight, but I’m happy to hear from you about this.
I know a lot of people that could and will benefit greatly from such anti-harassment systems in place would go a long way to keep harassers off of sites where they are not wanted. I’ve seen too many friends leave here or post strictly protected simply because of one person harassing them.
I’m glad you are responding to this and I hope to see these ideas come into fruition. Thank you for coming by, it is a welcome surprise and deeply appreciated.
Pete aka athynz
No – There are ways to get around it. Soon you will be tempted to offer blocks based on computer site or some other intrusive thing in order for it to work. If folks get blocked as is, they would get the message. I have never blocked anyone though. Of course, there are upsides too, in order to keep unwanted interlopers away, but I think that is a different matter. peace
Yes, this is what we need to prevent unwanted readers to our sites.
OH MY GOODNESS Thank you sooo much. That’s great.
Yah I want that….I don’t want some users coming to my site…
so plz do that!!!
Awesome!!
YES PLEASE.
As for people who say, ‘just post protected’, or, ‘don’t blog if you can’t take the bad with the good,’ I say, why? Why should this option not be available? No one’s making *you* use it. Who says the internet has to be this vast, wild territory, open to every freakshow out there? Change and innovation are good people, suck it up.
YES!
RYC—i won’t “out” you HERE, but thanks for the clarification of the child ‘protection’ laws…
BLOCK USER is probably the most detestable Xanga feature
IF people want their posts limited to a few “chosen” members…that is where PROTECTED kicks in
It’s my devout belief that the internet should be as uncensored as possible, and since MOST of Xanga is FREE, the freedom of expression should be encouraged
You still have the option to DELETE comments you don’t like, and while i think that’s LAME, everyone should have that option. [Personally, the only comments i ever deleted is when kids put up thier phone #'s and ask me to call them...they don't realize the DANGER in giving their personal info over the internet, so even us auld pornographers gotta draw the line somewhere
]
i think one of the major reasons for your current woes (i.e., the million dollar fines) is that you’re catering to all the biblehumpers looking to rapture their silly asses outta here anyway…so why bother
Once again i invoke the Howard Stern exampe…see what the FCC did to him when his company refused to challenge those undefined “obscenity” law which echo past Lenny Bruce to James Joyce
THIS move you’re proposing can lead Xanga further down the road to ruin
Besides being a lifetime premium member, i also included Xanga in the dedication of my book, so i guess i got a little more invested in seeing you kick some MySpace ass than becoming a cheap knock off of them
im a go. i get a bunch of views from ukraine just to my guestbook everyday and i think its a spybot O_o–or whatever those are called…
full blocking is great. but they will just create another account and do the same thing youve blocked them for. IP blocking would be most awesome if possible.
I would LUV it!!!! I can’t wait!!! LOL!! I can block like… ANYONE who i know and if they have a username!! Does anyone think this is REALLY STUPID??? If so… THEY ARE CRAZY!!!
As long as it isn’t JavaScript I support it fully.
Duhhh that’s the whole point of blocking!
Yes, I like it!!
Hey Wuts^ cmb
Kassie
yes, please.
Yeah!
OKay? Why it sounds fantastic… *sigh* First I have to get popular enough for someone to hate me and read me unwanted though.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE….YES YES YES… If I have blocked it means I want nothing to do with that person. Especially since this increase in Xangans using the place as a dating service.
This will be wonderful!!!!
SA
It sounds fantastic!
Full user blocking sounds severe, like something that would only be merited in a few cases. This does sound good, but would we still have the option of the “classic” block?

Yes, it could help with the privacy issues too.
could you guys like make an option to prevent people from subscribing to your xanga, like one that takes off everyone off of the subscribers list
YES!!!!! Go for it!! way tooooo many stalkers out there!!
i edited my entry, hit save, and all of a sudden, eprops and comments are gone? what gives? never had this happen before.
also, when i hit edit, the “enable comments/eprops” checkbox is checked. even if i uncheck it, and click save, the next time i hit edit, it’s still checked.
The option should be 1. a total block as well as 2. comment block as it is now.
mr-romance site concerns me.. blood and a gun. Yuck.
i somehow got the comment/eprop option to show up again once by switching the entry to private, but all my comments i had before were gone. but now even by switching to private, i still can’t get the comments/eprop option to come up again.
i think this is a wonderful idea. and if you guys think that they haven’t thought of these “issues” before working on this… then, yeah… i’m sure they’ll take into consideration of people being on different computers, having different xanga names, etc. i’m looking forward for this to go into effect!
*Jac*
YESSSSSS!!!! please do!
that sounds awesome.
Wouldn’t that require blocking IPs, which could also block other users, or requiring that the person be signed in to be blocked, in which case they could just log out to read it? Just wondering…
Drake/
Yes. The only ***** I’ve blocked was a total creep that I don’t want reading my site.
I noticed that the ads on the top of Classic user pages no longer have search modules. This is a definite improvement imo. Thanks! Pete.
I like the idea a lot
John, if I insinuated or said that you guys were indifferent, that is because in one situation that I know of that seemed to be the case. But with this improvement on the current block feature and the promise of the implemntation of IP based blocking and footprint lock it appears I was wrong and I apoligize.
Now I’d like to know some of the mechanics behind this new and improved blocking. Would there be a chioce between blocking someone from commenting or full blocking or would the full block be a replacement? Also for someone with currently blocked users would the full block be in effect for them as well?
I’m good with full blocking people that are already on the blocked list – I think I have all of three people on there that haven’t been to my site in a long time…
I had a feeling that full block would be a replacement rather than an added option, and I’m pretty cool with that too.
As for what a blocked person would see, perhaps a redirect page with something along the lines of “user has enabled blocking and has restricted access to this site” honestly I have no good ideas – or polite ideas
– about what the blocked person should see.
I figured IP blocking would take time to research and come up with a viable and workable system, so I’m not expecting it to be part of the full blocking yet but I’m glad to see a footprint lock is doable.
Nevermind about my above comment. The browser at my school wasn’t working right so the ad box looked smaller on my band’s Xanga page.
hey boi was up well comment back peace holla
YESSSS
Yes!! Full-user blockage sounds great!!!! Thanks!
ryc: heh, sorry about that. I’m coming back to Xanga as soon as you allow non-user commenting and archiving… for the food blog, that is, those are important features. i find a lot of people stumbling on my food pages (Xanga’s footprints alerted me to this, actually) via Googling certain food items but they can’t comment because they’re not users. I’m still using Xanga for my personal blog of course
Yes.
i don’t understand why you’d want the freedom to prevent people from using the fact that it’s the internet, to their advantage. If you don’t want users to read what you write, shouldn’t YOU take responsibility and make the posts private? Or not write at all? I mean.. i can admit to not wanting certain ex-boyfriends to read the updates of my present life.. but i guess that carries over to actual face-to-face interaction too though. I wouldn’t want him poking around in my business either way. However i always believed, you take the risks of on-line blogging. How can you be so offended that random people take an interest in you, if you’re willing to “put it all out there” so to speak. *shrugs* just what i thought.
How about the MORAL & constitutional issues???
Can I fully block myself? I only want to block myself and no one else. Can I fully block myself from everyone else’s site, too? That might cure me of this addiction.
Yup. Sounds great.
full user block will be amazing.
Why?
this feature will make me soo happy!! i know a # of ppl i don’t like on xanga that i’d like to fully block them from seeing my site, great feature and finally implemented!
YESSSS YESYESYES!
I have sent xanga repeated emails regarding the same problem over the span of a few months and no one has bothered to respond to me… perhaps you can?
Dude,that new weblog entry sucks.
Everything else is fine though.
I’d really love to see that full blocking users. My layout site is filled with jockers watching.Hope it turns out great.
Good luck.
Well, the obvious issue would be that blocking someone from reading is really only doable through protected posts. A full block feature could block an ID and/or IP address, but what about making new IDs and using libraries for access? I’m just not sure that a full block feature could ever be enacted, any more than Protected posting already does. Do whatever you like, just don’t expect any miracles.
I don’t care where they are directed, or how it is accomplished, as long as they can’t see anything on my site anymore, period.
I saw that you subscribed to my site and I really love yours hey I wanted to know do you like pirates of the carribean cause I
pirates of the carribean and wanted to know if you liked star wars and also you should play this one game it’s really awesome it’s called runescape anyways I g2g I’m sorry bye and sorry this is so late but I’m always playing runescape and barely go on xanga anymore
so cya
I see the work involved for “Full Blocking” as useless as people can
a) Logout and come back as a guest
b) Create a new Xanga account
To prevent those two scenarios you would need to only allow certain people to see the posts. Oh wait, we already have that feature though.
Don’t waste your time guys, the other stuff you do is much cooler
haha oh come on, john, you know that xanga’s the original.
i’m with xanga for the long haul. and nope, i didn’t have to say that :-p
hope you’re doing well! i haven’t commented, but i’ve really appreciated all the cool changes.
Yep sounds awesome
John,
The following is a series of emails I have been sending to the chief safety officer of Xanga, Stephen. Is Xanga slipping? Or is Xanga starting to give in to these pedophiles and sympathizers of pedophiles? If Xanga allows such a person as Adam to stay how will this effect Xanga’s reputation? Up till now Xanga has been the only blogging community that will actually do anything to try and keep pedophiles off of their site. I beg of you to not give into their claims of “free speech” and their so called “rights” of sexual orientation. pedophilia is not accepted in this society and it should not be accepted here in Xanga.
Lady Valkyrie
Stephen,
I sent the following message to you a couple of days ago. I can see that Adam’s Xanga called pedophilerights and his blogring of the same name is still there. Why?

Subject: Pedophile Rights Blog & Blogring is back… again
Sorry to bother you yet again. I was just about to go to bed and I decided
to check my footprints. Guess who I seen had visited my Xanga at midnight
Monday morning on September 25, 2006? Yes, that’s right, Adam, the guy who
claims to not be a pedophile but only stands up for pedophile’s rights. Here
is his new Xanga blog… http://www.xanga.com/pedophilerights Here his new
blogring called Pedophile Rights… http://www.xanga.com/groups/group
aspx?id=2380189 If he’s stupid enough to come back to my Xanga knowing I
have footprints then he should be shut down for just being plain retarded. I
almost, not quite, but almost feel guilty bothering Xanga this much in one
day. But I feel compelled to do this. Thank you for being patient with me.
Brightest Blessings
Audrey

Edit to the above comment… here is the link to the pedophile rights blogring that should be shur down…
http://www.xanga.com/groups/group.aspx?id=2380189
yes, very much so. I’ve had people ripping stuff off my site, taking it out of context, modifying it, and telling people I’m a threat, which is total bullshit. I have wanted this full blocking feature for a very long time. I really appreciate the Xanga lock too.
Didn’t read any of the comments before
i bet you this crowd would dig putting Jews on trains and sending them to camps where they can “concentrate”
the only problem I see with full blocking is that the blocked person could very easily create another Xanga for the sole purpose of looking at your site. they could also mask their site by using the feature you’ve added that hides us from footprints. I’m not complaining about that feature or the ease with which we can sign up on Xanga but I wonder if you have a solution for these easy ways to get around the full blocking.
Cooo, you’ve upset Eminem a lot! He even came to my site to complain
Still, if you know any of us individually from the millions of blogs you host, I bet you know him
John, Em here! You posted a mssg on my blog. As for the inacessability on ur xanga, I’ve been experiencing this same techinical difficulty as well. My suggestion: go to http://www.xanga.com, and see up top of the page. If the name of your screen name to your blog is not on top of the page, then I’d suggest you’d try typing the whole address of your xanga site, and then see what it comes up w/. If you’re still receiving that dorky music player (haha), then I’s suggest you go and type in the search browser box on the original xanga site. If this problem persists, the last suggestion that I can give, is that you take this problem and show it to your friends or fam that might be good with comp then if tht dosent work, then go up to the xanga staff and notify them of this faulty techincality.
Thanks for droppin by the site!

Great site
It should be up to me who I forbid to read my site, not Xanga. If I block someone solely because they’re leaving stupid comments, I’m fine with them still reading my site. I’d be okay with it (although not completely comfortable) if I could choose the degree to which I block a person.
Then again, there is this little feature that Xanga has called “Protected Posting” that a bunch of people who have commented before me are apparently unaware of. Perhaps the ability to add more than ten people to our Protected Lists would be better than full blocking? Just a thought…
I’m inclined to side with EminemsRevenge on this, considering that there are some moral boundaries that Xanga would breach if they were to go through with this whole “Full Blocking” thing.
WTF? Isn’t that what protected posts are for? I swear Xanga is breeding paranoia, deliberately. And in-the-works: making it possible for everyone to construct their own jail cell. Must have something to do with page clicks and advertising revenue. What else could it be?
Hey john their this girl who keeps going to me and my friends site and sayin WHITE IS NOT WRIGHT!! I dont know what to tell her but its really bothering me!!!! Her username is sarebear93. Thanx
comment back
Please enable it today! I need it really desperatly! I don’t want people like sex, cocainedealer, or any other names like this to ever visit again. My site is family friendly!
Do we have to set up a block list? If we don’t, does it automaticlly block everyone from suscribing/posting?
Please enable this quickly!
Another suggestion, could you please give us the opption to disable the Email It link? Thank you so much. You guys are a great blog host.
someone said “full user blocking sounds amazing. I’ve always been severly annoyed/disturbed about people I don’t know, and not responding, visiting my site daily.”
Why the hell do you even have a website? Jeeeesh for crying out load. Buy a diary and write in it at home.
hahaha. I just visited that site and she posts a picture of her pregnant belly. unbelievable.
Great!!!
Personally I think your time would be better spent working on more protected lists with higher limits on the number of people allowed. Then we could have a protected list for everyone we wanted to be reading our xanga at all and a separate one for those people we want to be able to read our more private entries. This would prevent the problem of people creating multiple accounts to get around the block.
Yes
I definatly second the motion for a full user block.
I love you John!
YES!!!!
thanx for all that u do!
~amy~
cool thing
YES! bring it on please!
You have NOOOO idea!!!!
I will be using it AS SOON as it is available!!
it doesnt just sound OK.. its frikkin awesome.
Heh, bout time!
wicked, dudes.
totally schweet. now if we could only get rid of the spammers completely.
Make it possible to block via IP Address.
You wouldn’t even have to display the IP, just give a link that says “block” next to their location on the footprints log or something.
thank you.

that’s GREAT!
Absolutely – go for it!
I love this.
sounds great…i was looking for a code on another persons site that was supposed to keept certain people from your site but it didnt work. im hoping this works out becuase theres this one girl i know that i dont like and she keeps coming to my page! ya’ll are awsome
<3 michelle
I have gone the full blocking route….and it was breached….so what is the point! I finally realized that as long as I could prevent them from commenting….I did not really care if they read my entries. What I do not want them to read…..I post protected! After all, if I wrote a book…..I would not be able to prevent someone from reading it at a library. You write a public entry….the public is going to read it…..that is why it is called a public entry. If you want to pick and choose…..write protected….it is as simple as that.
Too bad people that are on your blocked list can still subscribe. I e-mail Xanga help about this a week ago and still have not received a reply.
sounds great! thanks so much.
i hate how theres fake accounts like crazy now though, so hopefully this comes soon
Please work for it. I love it!
THANK GOD!!!
yes, it sounds completely awesome! i’ve been in need of that feature. thanks!
That’s brillant~~
definitely!
I think there should be options.
Full user block, or just blocking from commenting/subscribing.
There should also be options on the xanga lock. Requiring signed in, or requiring signed in and not anonymouse.
Please don’t leave us with another useless “all or nothing” feature.
YES definitely!
FULL USER BLOCKING would be AWESOME. I was prolly one of those people who wrote in about it awhile back & finallllyyyyy something is being done about it. THANK YOU! =)
Yes! You cannot possibly impliment this too soon!
what about both kinds of blocking? where you let them read it but don’t want their dirty comments on your site?
Kinda like a comment allow list… only certain users can comment sorta thingy.
umm, like this full user blocking AND the other kind. I think that’d be kinda cool
yesss!
absolutely not.
I can hardly wait!
Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t mind my blocked users seeing my site, I just don’t want them able to interact with me in any way. Maybe there can be 2 different “levels” of blockage? One where they can still see, but not comment, and a full block.
Yes! There are some weird people that sign up for a Xanga but don’t post anything. They just sign in and randomly read people’s sites. I’ve had problems with a certain user who never left comments but obsessively reads my page. It’s kinda creepy. I don’t have a problem with someone randomly stumbling across it, but I don’t like strangers looking at it obsessively. Now I can block the Xanga stalker without blocking everyone else! Thank you!
“Does full user blocking sound OK to you?”
YES!
It sounds great!
Hurry! ^______^
Oh yeah! Now you’re talking. I’d be so much more open if I knew I could stop certain people…
Please turn it on today! I need it really bad!
Can’t wait to have it turned on, I’m with poster above, I need it bad!
great. awesome.
I only wish I’d known this was in the works a few weeks ago. I deleted my Xanga of nearly 2 years thanks to stalking issues.
Perfect! Thank you thank you thank you!
will it only block usernames or will it be able to block the isp# ?
That can be done using the block users script but replacing ‘username’ where it says if(xName == ‘USERNAME’) with the username of whoever you don’t want viewing you site. The only “problem” is that it’s javascript so they can laugh at you by disabling javascript.
I don’t really see a point in this because they can just get a new username and still view your site until you block that one too.
oops, I meant to post that in the full user blocking post
oops. That’s the problem with having multiple windows open.
I’ve been wanting Full Blocking FOREVER. This will be great!!! I cannot wait! Hurry XangaWorkers…hurry!
YES DEFINITELY. It’s about time.
Please please please yes. I have this freaky stalker girl visiting my site, and I really want to get rid of her so I can start posting non-protected posts again. One of my friends is in a similar position with his old housemates. Go Xanga go!
hell mutha fuckn yes!! =]
blocking ips wouldn’t work, would it? since some isps give you a different # everytime you sign online. (hahahaa…i typed everytime you sing online. oh hell yes they’d block me if i could do that.)
Yes, some people scare me!
definitely!
That would be perfect.
sounds good to me.
Sounds awesome! But….not to be miss bubble-burster or anything but, I was wandering. Is it possible to make a thing where you make your WHOLE site private so NOBODY can see it without having to block users? You know…a perfectly private journal?
Please!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s awesome. SOm people are just nosy and try anything to read your xanga O_O
shoot ya!!!
yes yes yes.
I can’t wait to see it coming.
yes yes!! it would be great to have that!! some people are just soooo scary!! >_<
Absolutely. I hope you guys finish it soon!
LOVELY! that’s exactly what i needed. x.x <3…..the love
sounds great1
I am so glad you’re finally going to have this feature.
Thank God, I’ve commented about 50 times about that. (Since Xanga responds to its “help” emails 6 months late when the proublem is irrelevant) But cna you give it an IP feature? I know it’l slow it down, but that’s why its optional plus ive had someone a while back change theyre usernames 5 times on me!
and im STILL waitign for a comment-spell checker!
Sounds like a possible idea to consider1
Sounds useless, actually. For example, I block Davie123. So Davie opens another site called Davie321. I block Davie321. Davie opens another Xanga called Davie231. And so on. And this is a true story several times over just with me – there’s one gal who has seven IDs I’ve had to block.
The lock is the only answer. This is just another waste, because if someone’s a jerk and wants in, they’ll get in. ((shrugs)) Blocking is useful. But unless you lock, you’ll never be rid of the buglies.
Hi, I have someone in my life in which I no longer wish to have in my life…I have a restraining order on her and a lot of other things…Is there a way to block an IP address?
Big huge thank you.
THANK YOU!
yes…good news it is.
Yes.
I’ve had to block a few people on one of my older xangas (the reason I got this new one, actually), because they were still harrassing me IRL about whatever I’d post on it.
I *did* get that one blocking script from one of those script sites, but it seemed to break o_O and it had it’s flaws anyway.
Yay for full blockage!
sounds good!
Yes!
Yes! I can’t wait
YESH!! do it!! pleeeeease!!
Hooray! Can’t wait!
I would certainly feel more free to post what’s going on in my life if my ex-husband weren’t able to read my site. DO IT! Xanga Stalkers suck!!
Is this in effect yet? I think that would be great.
I think this rocks I was just about to email about this. I’ve had a problem with someone over the last two days who stole a post of mine. She is also passing others (Rumiko Takahashi) drawings off as her own. I want a way to keep HER away. This new feature WILL ROCK!
good…thx
Yes!!
yes! good way to block out stalkers!
but yeah, blocking google searches is another thing! but yeah, great job! =D
you guys are awesome
Hi, noticed your name on my Xanga footprints
thanks for stopping by. Feel welcome to come again anytime!
