  • ISP UPDATE

We had a sit-down with the head of our ISP today (every since I started watching the Sopranos, every business meeting has become a “sit down”).

He explained what’s been causing our recent outage: Xanga’s insatiable hunger for electricity for our hardware.

As Xanga’s grown, we’ve been adding more and more servers – in fact, we added two more last week.  We have so many servers now that we’ve started maxing out their circuit breakers.  If this keeps up, we could drain all the power from a whole Manhattan power grid!

This is what caused our problems last week: due to a mixup between their staff members, our power was configured incorrectly.  Now that we know what’s up, they’re taking steps to make sure we have access to all the power we need (and that we have a failover if we blow out the circuit breakers again).

On a positive note, we just got seven more servers delivered.  We’ll be installing them over the next few weeks, once we hash out our power issues.

Looking forward into the new year, I’m starting to get excited.  Once we’re all set with our hardware and power, we can refocus on what we do best: building new features and toys for the Xanga community to play with!  Stay tuned for some cool announcements on that front…

  • That’s good to hear, and better to hear that you guys are on top of things as usual. Thanks for doing a great job!

    =)

  • Thanks for the update.

  • Good thing that Sopranos analogy didn’t fully play out.

  • Thanks for caring so much about us Xangans that you’d go thru all that for us!  I’ve dealt with webhost before who took your money and ran like crazy.  Not fun…

  • w00t!  Ya know…even though I am still pretty new, I feel like I am watching a kid grow, ya know.. one day you see them and they are this tall *holds hand at waist level* and then you see them again and they are 6’3″.  Nice to see Xanga growing like a weed! Happy Holidays! I hope Santa brings you more servers. :o )
