Are you sending a care package to the troops this holiday season?
Now I feel guilty. This is absolutely something I should do. Regardless of what you think about war, soldiers serve their country and risk the ultimate sacrifice. I can’t believe I never considered this until I saw this Featured Question… so I’m blogging my answer to assuage my guilt. Plus I will track down a care package charity, and donate some money. Then my guilt will be purged, although probably not for long.
There really is nothing I can do to support the troops that is even remotely on par with what they sacrifice every day… that’s why I’m so embarrassed I never thought about this before.
I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

A good valid point John that soliders from what ever country their are serving from whether it is United States, United Kingdom etc there are sacrficing and risking their own lifes and getting injured.
Hmmm I just typed and submited a comment and it dissappeared!
I said it okay… a lot of people don’t think about it.
You have to b careful what organization yoou are sending through.
I have an organization called my brother in law! We send things for him and his friends, sometimes it is just as simple as a bunch of paintings by the kids and they still like them… just getting somethin and knowing they are remembered.
i want to, but i thought they were freaking out about anthrax this year, and refused to let anyone send packages addressed to “any soldier” and whatnot? it was in the news…
I think it’s nice to support the troops. But sometimes I wonder when they ask for wetwipes and soap. Can’t our government provide combat soldiers with that kind of basic stuff? I need to get better educated.
I’m going to pretend I didn’t see this so I don’t feel guilty.
I’m hoping some1 will send ME a care package. Unemployed 4 months & just got a ticket for not coming to a COMPLETE stop at a red blinking light at 1am on the morning, sure is gonna b a Happy Holiday’s 4 me.
That is a nice thing to do.
That maybe one way of looking at it. However, some people think the soldiers are out taking innocent lives, including children. The sad part is that the most of the soldiers have no idea what they’re doing because they’re too dumb or young or both.
Hadn’t even considered it! When you track down info, can you post it here for the lazy?
I LUV HOW U CARE ABOUT THE TROOPS AND U WANT 2 DONATE SOMETHING I FEEL THE SAME WAY
PEACE KYLEE <333
Hey could you do something about those stupid google ads that appear when I visiting someone’s page. They’re really a nuisence having them appear on the top-right side of the screen like that.
Oh and yeah it sucks to not send gifts to the troops in Iraq.
Tis’ a great idear indeed.
Hi there –
I just wanted to invite you to stop by my site and read my answer to
the featured question. I posted some sites that connect anyone who
would like to send a care package to a soldier.
Happy Holidays!
- Laura
I never thought about it either. I’ll be doing good to send anything to anyone this year.
YES! And I almost forgot! Thank you for the reminder!
John, were I a soldier, I would imagine myself to be a tiny little boat afloat on the sea of the universe.
I would accept that no one cares, unless there are bullets flying at their head.
Empathy is important, but you should use it for practical uses.
A care package? I care. I hope no one dies. That is enough.
Were I a soldier, i wouldn’t think about care packages.
I would think about getting home alive and little else.
I never thought about it either… The featured question does prompt a lot of thought. Thanks for adding my firend request/subsribtion.
PLEASE GET RID OF THE GOOGLE ADS ON THE SIDE. you probably don’t realize it john but there are so many layout makers on xanga and they can’t work around this ad popping up in the middle of their page and having it in the modules on the side, it destroys it. please go back to putting ads on top how it used to be! this is a huge problem, the google ads the side make me sad
not to mention, this ad is covering up layouts just showing up in the middle of the page covering the blogs. i know you’re a fan of themes now but you should be considerate in knowing that there’s still a lot of people who like regular custom CSS layouts better. while i touch base with that topic of layout CSS’s, i must say that in the editor settings for the weblog entry version, a lot lot lot of people have been wanting the old version to be an option. why can’t we choose? i understand you want to upgrade but i think that you should keep an open mind for us who still like to use the classic settings from before. please make these changes and everyone can be happy
other than that, do keep it up because i love xanga!
You may feel guilty, John, but consider the fact that by helping to make Xanga possible, you are helping millions of people (including troops) to stay in touch with their families and loved ones – that truly is a gift.

Great idea John and good for you for considering it. However, the way I understand it is we can’t send anything directly to the troops. You will have to go through an organization like the Red Cross to have things sent.
One of my good friends is currently deployed overseas in the Air Force. He tells me that getting ANY kind of mail, even just the US News and World Report subscription his mom bought him, is a big thing. Last time the gang sent him a care package he said he cried when he opened it because he was so happy to get some sort of memory of home.
The care packages really do a lot for the troops…
Hey John. My daughters senior class, the Ohana Dance Group of Sacramento and I, combined, have sent out 43 flat rate boxes this year! ALL to Addy’s posted on http://www.xanga.com/USA_troops_aide. Others from xanga also send packages to these posted addys….
Did you know that this is a blog right here on Xanga? It offers names and address of US Servicemen and women that are letgit? Yep, Dread Pirate and Spazmom40 started it years ago and it bloomed into its own blog. Please feel free to stop by and send a carepackage to any listed addy!

Merry Christmas!

While I certainly agree my charity has been to the Intrepid Center here for troops returning wounded. http://www.fallenheroesfund.org/fallenheroes/index.php
There are so many ways to help. Veterans hospitals are full of those who gave their all.
Lol, in my situation, I barely was able to give my daughter and her bf a few things. I try to say “thank you” to all the soldiers I run into though, and I pray for their safe return^_^.
I sent a care package to a soldier this year. He’s a very good friend of mine who unfortunately is serving his second tour in Iraq. The purpose for me to send a care package to boost moral and lets him know that I’m with him in spirit. Most importantly praying for his safe return home to the U.S. If you have a chance visit his Xanga page at http://www.xanga.com/simon721984
You know, the thought has never even crossed my mind so I should be the one feeling guilty – at least you thought it! I have a hard time as it is sending out gifts to my family and friends.
Its strange to me, with all the hoohaa about the war being so wrong and Bring Our Troops Home that so many kids are still enlisting and some returning for a second or third tour. They can’t all be poor, daft and with no prospects. Can they perhaps have played with too many guns when they were kiddies? I don’t know what I would send them, film dvds, padded socks, chapstick (cherry) and sachets of hot chocolate mix with marshmallows.
