More on New Private Page
Hey guys! We’re not done smoothing all the bugs out of the new private page, but have you been checking it out lately?? It’s really coming together, imho:
At first it was an adjustment… but earlier today I randomly found myself on the old private home page, and was shocked at how much more I loved the new one. I especially love the Universal Inbox, which blends all my feedback with my subscriptions updates.
Take a look if you haven’t already!
One piece of feedback we’ve gotten is that, it’s tricky to find that “Add Weblog” link at first. What do you think… you too? Any other feedback?

yeah, it is a little difficult to find it
wow, it looks amazing though
well, it will soon.
Love the newest version you popped up yesterday. My only tweak would be move the Feedback to the default first tab.
I like it.
i think i still like using the “yourhome” one
I love it and the improvements are good!
I like it! It’s convenient.
hmm.. i think this is my first time coming to the new private page. (currently, i have shortcuts for my feedback and subscription page, so that’s been all i’ve really been use). at first glance, it seems a little cluttered and my eye is not sure where to look first.. I’ll have to play around with this more. who knows? anyway… most people seem to like it
I agree – the universal inbox is genius.
It looks great.
i think u should include your subscriptions in the “subs” tab in the Universal Inbox instead of listing new subscribers to your site. to notify of new subscribers to your page, u can probably use flashing message indicators, or just a highlighted message like “Someone just subscribed to your page!” somewhere in the Inbox.
It’s cool. I’m just a bit old school with xanga. I feel outdated.
WOW at first it scared me a little… But it is much easier to read… I think I can get used to it. That’s a good thing coming from someone who HATES change. I haven ‘t updated my site theme in… ever.
I am off to see if I can find the add weblog link.
I see it… tricky… and then the public preview would just be the your site button on the uper right corner?
Its very nice John! I will brace myself for the change… thanks for the warning.
Add Weblog is easy to find in my opinion. This page is a great design. I’m so glad that the loading time is fast also. Next you guys need an IM service like gmail, so when I’m logged in I can IM my friends.
Oh yeah and I definitely agree with what tlm0000 said… “My only tweak would be move the Feedback to the default first tab.”
i absolutely love it!
not hard to find at all!
all the added features are great! way to go!
I was using the new page for a while, but got homesick for the comfortable old one, and was pleased to find a well-placed link to go back to the old page. But then I couldn’t figure out how to get back to the new one – the “old” page does not have that well-placed link to switch back! I like the new one sometimes, and I wanted to get used to it but not use it all the time, so an easy way to switch back and forth would be great!
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
ilike what i had
thank you very much
A little busy for my tastes. I like the simplicity of what I have. Please leave an option to stay old school!
I had no idea this feature existed. It’s like the tidy Facebook summary section. Nifty!
it reminds me of facebook
I dunno. What are you trying to do with this new page? I know I tend to go against change but this reminds me a bit too much of…dare I say it?
“Add weblog” is right below the profile picture.
Will we have the option of keeping the old private page? (Yea, I know I’m a pain with this question…)
I really like it. I have all of my Xanga information in one place. I have been living there. Thanks!
Way too busy.
i like it! looks great. reminds me of the facebook newsfeed.
It’s coming along very nicely. It seems to be more and more useful.
great work… would still like to see more filters on it tho
FIrst there was facebook’s interface. Then Myspace imitated Facebook’s interface. Then Xanga imitated Facebook’s interface.
I guess it works. Just funny to realize the progression. Xanga still beats the snot out of Facebook and Myspace anyway…
=Matt=
What I think is tricky is that, after the latest change, I don’t see my feedback by default. Instead, I see the merged subscription updates and my feedback.
Oh, and I had a weird thing happen. The Universal Inbox said someone had subscribed to me, but that I needed to subscribe to them. It provided a link. I clicked on the link, and it went to a page that said I had no invites. Turned out it was an invite to which I’d already responded. Can those be dynamically generated, so that once the invite has been completed, the message reflects that?
i like.
looks like the cover of the NYTs. well done
i lurve it
Yes, it keeps getting better and better. Great job, guys!
I’m not too into it, I want to keep using my old private page.
God I love this site.
I like knowing how many pages of subscriptions you have. . .
of course it looks like now people will be able to pick-and-choose what entries they see when reading their subscribers. . .which has its advantages, sure. but you can’t know everything you will-or-will not want to see in advance, and will surely lose out on some stuff.
I like that it tells you how many photos you added.
This looks very promising. I was finding it a big problem that I couldn’t see the comments I’d received on my photoblog when checking “Your comments” because I only seemed to be seeing comments on weblog–what I needed was just that. Something to tell me the comments I received on photoblog–I’ve been adding a bunch of pics and don’t want to miss a comment when I do get one!
wow. I just realized. . .generally something new. . .I don’t like. It takes me a while to get used to xanga changes (like, even somebody changing their profile pic throws me off–I rather wish they’d just keep the same one I first knew them by–unless I suppose it was a really lousy one lol)
but the new page. . I liked that RIGHT AWAY. Very promising. . .
I cant find it without using the like on your page,
but I love it anyway
very nice
I still hate it. I like seeing my weblogs front and center. I think the universal inbox is too big and has too much wasted space, especially on my widescreen monitor. I’m here to blog for myself more than anything else, and the connections and friendships and other people’s blogs are secondary to me. I want my journal where i can see it. Now, if you could make it adjustable, so that we can move the modules around to our own liking, like on the public page, that would be something useful…
WOW this looks great! thanks
i like your page layout…
very cool, but how come we don’t have it yet when we log in?
It’s great! It looks cleaner and easier to read than I remember. One cool bonus is that it has the friends’ entries listed too even if I’m not subscribed. Keeping that list pretty small helps in time management, but this way I could see if something really caught my interest. Nice touch!
And waaay better than the Facebook newsfeeds. TMI over there. So-n-so’s messaged someone or bought something. That’s just too invasive. What you have here is helpful and concise. Nice work and well thought out.
It seems like there are two places at which one could start a blog entry too. No trouble finding either.
Now, I wish it was available on the old themes, but that is the only bummer.
hihi
i like it!
Is there a way 2 change the color and font on the private page? I get so tired of white. (So facebook’ee.)
I don’t really like the Universal Inbox thing because it’s too much like Facebook, but overall, I think I could get used to it.
How very interesting… more fiddly nobs and buttons… and a nice layout.
Whoever layed that out should get a prize… I’m not being sarcastic. I’d never seen it before.
Wow, you changed the layout of something used to control the site AGAIN? What a horrible thing to do! I hope the old one is still available without making it difficult to look at your feedback and subscribtions by putting them in the same area!
