  • Left Brained or Right Brained?

Is she rotating clockwise or counter-clockwise?

If it’s clockwise, then you’re right brained.  If it’s counter clockwise, then you’re left brained.

See if you can’t reverse the direction of the dancer.  I don’t know what that means… that your brain is ambidextrous maybe.  (more here – link from ElsaElsa.com)

Are you left brained or right brained?

Comments (695)

  • I must be right-brained.  I swear she stops her spinning occasionally though but she never reverses.

  • Counter clockwise so left brained

  • clockwise? will this be graded????? I feel so pressured John

  • clockwise.  she has nice racks

  • When I first looked at it I thought, “Obviously, she’s going clockwise,” but then I looked away from the screen and when I looked again, she was going counter-clockwise!

    This is freaky.

  • clockwise, but i swear it was counterclockwise when i first looked at it… this is making my brain hurt.

  • ok, i can switch back and forth now. weird!

  • I saw this before, something about her
sad doll pose makes it kinda creepy.

  • Okay I’ve been looking at this for like 10 minutes now and I can’t see her go clockwise

  • OMG I saw her reverse positions. It was so freaky lol!

  • this is a scam.  it came out a couple weeks ago. there was an article later in the day that called it a hoax.

  • I stumbled upon this a couple weeks ago, and everyone i showed it to was eventually able to see both directions.. except for me. ugh!

  • Everytime I see this, the only thing I can see is clockwise.  I must be incredibly right-brained.  I fail to see how it could possibly be going counter-clockwise.

  • it turned counter clock wise at first… but everytime i look away from it turns clockwise and if i look away from it, it turns counter clockwise… sometimes it doesn’t switch.. i think it turns clockwise more than counter for me.. so maybe i’m both but more right?  but i’m an engineer.. one would think i would be more left brain than right.  *confused*

  • this is very cool

  • initially i see clockwise first but everytime i look away and back again, she switches.  does that mean i use both sides of my brain?

  • At first she’s going clockwise, then when i stared at her for a while, she stops and turns the other way briefly.

  • I’m inclined to think that this might have more to do with which eye is your dominant eye rather than whether you are right or left brained.

  • right… At first glimpse she looked left and then imediatly went right hmm… interesting,

Okay… when I look at her shadow and then look at her again she goes left… then I watch look at the shadow again and it goes right… is it on a timer? lol

  • clockwise all the way

  • looked clockwise at first…took me a long time, but I finally got it to go counter-clockwise.  It’s weird, I kinda have to concentrate on her feet to make her switch directions.  Oh wait, I just got it looking at the hand…but foot’s easier…
But I think you kinda have to concentrate on one of the limbs, because if you look at the body, left and right (in terms of arms/legs) are determined by the direction she’s spinning in, and your brain’s not gonna easily switch.  But concentrating on just the foot and trying to see it go the other way, your brain’s less reluctant to change.
Hmmm…looking at the bottom half only, I can get it to change every half-turn.

Yeah, always starts out clockwise for me though.
Though I must say, the shadow that is just slightly visible pretty much determines that she is actually turning counter-clockwise…due to how much is visible when.
Hmm…though if we call it a mirror, I think we might be able to position it so it makes sense…
(sorry for taking up so much space lol)

  • what up right-brained

  • i can see both. i found it counter-clockwise first, then saw it clockwise. i didn’t find a need to force it to do this, but once i see it clockwise, i have to try to see it counter-clockwise again.

  • she reversed on me…

  • hm, if i’m right brained, then why do i fit way more of the left-brained characteristics?

  • I saw it both ways… it was weird…I have always heard that if you are right handed you are left brained. Any truth to that?

  • I guess I’m right brained….I can’t get her to go counter.

  • Now that is freaking crazy.  She reversed when I looked from the corner of my eye.  She started out counter clockwise then clockwise, then back and forth. . . gaaaaaa now I’m dizzy.

  • here are my results from the test that Konrado linked above:

    Brain Lateralization Test Results

    Right Brain ||||||||||      40%
    Left Brain   ||||||||||||     50%
*results won’t usually add up to 100% as this test measures each side separately

Left brain dominant individuals are more orderly, literal, articulate, and to the point. They are good at understanding directions and anything that is explicit and logical. They can have trouble comprehending emotions and abstract concepts, they can feel lost when things are not clear, doubting anything that is not stated and proven.

Right brain dominant individuals are more visual and intuitive. They are better at summarizing multiple points, picking up on what’s not said, visualizing things, and making things up. They can lack attention to detail, directness, organization, and the ability to explain their ideas verbally, leaving them unable to communicate effectively.

Overall you appear to be Left Brain Dominant

    …strange, this. i’m intrigued.

  • She keeps swithing …I write with either hand well.

  • okay according to Konrado‘s link I am equally brained. That is pretty cool… :)

  • and to answer Queen_Tina’s question: no, “handedness” has nothing to do with being right- or left-brained. Most of the human population is right-handed, whereas left- and right-brained people are more equal in number.

  • She is buck nekkid by the way!

  • According to Konrado‘s link I am
    Right Brain 38%
    Left brain    48%

  • john, read this link: here

  • I didn’t know she was moving in either direction… I just liked watching her move…

  • Oh, and if you look at the NBA logo… is the guy dribbling toward you or away from you?

Or the MLB logo… is the guy batting left handed or right handed?

  • Dear John,

I can make her dance to the left or the right, and in time to music if I want to. I guess that means I’ve got both a powerful right and left brain, eh?

A while back you left me a comment letting me know you couldn’t “see” my first “moviemorph”. It was just a bunch of photos of me “aging” anyway, so you didn’t miss much. As I write, it’s Nov 2nd, my latest “moviemorph” titled “Skyline” is currently #2 on (whoops, it just faded to #3) on Xanga’s Starred Video page. The entry for the video is #1 on the weblog starred page.

I’m more proud of this morph anyway, which is only the second I’ve created. Check out “Skyline” if you have the time. (It’s on Xanga’s server, so you shouldn’t have any problem.

  • the easiest way to get her to change directions is to look at the shadow of her foot…after a couple of turns, you can get her to change directions…

  • i see both rotations pretty easily. what does that mean?

  • Weird -how could it be rotating both ways. And what does being left brain imply?

  • I saw clockwise, then counterclockwise. Interesting!

  • I saw it clockwise first, but I can switch pretty easily.

  • Interesting, 1st she was going counter clockwise, then she reversed to clockwise without trying to change it, but I have trouble changing it back to counter clockwise.

  • I’m trying to reverse it but I can’t. It is really pissing me off.  Thanks for making my Friday suck.

  • She went both ways!

  • here’s a trick: if you can’t see it turning the other way, try covering up the whole body save for the head of the foot. lose your focus on the part, relax, and voila! it changes. haha. it worked for me anyway.. personally think looking at the hair (upper part of the head) is easier.. im predominantly clockwise.. :)

  • She has a great body.  To answer the question, I saw it counter clockwise on another site first but I can spin it both ways now.

  • that’s a terrible roundhouse kick, but i bet those rockin’ sweater-kittens really weigh her down.

    all clockwise, here.

  • Me and my buddy are here arguing over which why she is turning… sometimes we see the same. strange…
    MrT

  • I think I’ll wait until I’ve had a few too many then I’ll come back and take another look….

  • I watched for a l-o-n-g time, and she does stop and switch directions. it’s not my brain.

  • i wonder:  does your “handed-ness” have an affect on how you view this?

  • n/m  just read someone else’s comment above

  • She goes in both directions….I wonder just what that means.  Is she changing direction or do we just think she is changing direction?

  • Clockwise, and ONLY clockwise!

  • I see both directions.

  • No matter how hard I try to see it that way, I cannot see her go clockwise. I know, however, that I am extremely left brained.

  • OMG TYPICAL WOMAN!! MAKE UP YOUR MIND!! CLOCKWISE OR COUNTER CLOCKWISE!?  =P

  • counter-clockwise for first couple seconds

and clockwise after that and I can’t seem to be able to see it counter-clockwise again

    That’s how it was today

and also it was the same I believe when I came across this thing a few weeks ago. . .

  • whoa, that’s wierd, I saw counter first, then clockwise

  • dammit I still only see it counterclockwise

apparently one side of my brain greatly outsmarts the other

  • I can’t see her going any direction but clockwise.

  • She changes on me too!!!

  • This is absolutely amazing, actually she spins both ways (but not at the same time ), thank you for this.

  • Oh she reversed for me so I am weird I guess lol

    That is pretty kewl

  • clockwise.
    Incredibly so.
I couldn’t see it any other way

  • i meant to post this last week but forgot.  i’m def right brained … i could’ve told anyone this w/o it

  • We stopped work at the office for 30 mins a few weeks back doing this. I can switch at will–without blinking, looking away, and at any part f the picture. Crazy stuff I tell you.

    -ray leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Clockwise then after a quad-shot counter-clockwise. Something is fishy about this….
looking concentrating on the foot can get the brain to switch gears. I think…

  • I’m right brain, but I did notice her nipples and I’m straight. Does that mean I go both ways? Is this a hoax? Why is she naked?

  • but she keeps reversing? i think this is a trick question or optical illusion something.

  • Ok, you won’t belive this; but right when I got to the word ambidextrous she switched directions.  No, I’m not ambidextrous, but she really did change directions.  And, I can wiggle my left ear, does that count for anything?

  • Counter clockwise!  I don’t see how it could possible be anything else!

  • YO PEOPLE. COVER HER UPPER BODY AND ONLY FOCUS ON HER VERTICAL FOOT. FORCE YOURSELF TO THINK 3 DIMENSIONALLY BECAUSE IN FACT THIS IS ONLY A 2D PICTURE FLIPPING LEFT AND RIGHT. LOOK AT THE FOOT WHEN IT FLIPS FROM ONE SIDE TO THE OTHER FORCE YOURSELF TO THINK EITHER CLOCKWISE OR COUNTER CLOCKWISE THAN YOU’LL SEE BOTH!

  • by watching the entire image it will reverse after a while because it is an optical illusion – a two dimensional representation of a three dimensional object. when the brain attempts to represent this two dimensional object it renders it randomly spinning in one direction or another. there is no pattern to the number of clockwise or counterclockwise rotations.

the anti-placebo:  block out all but the bottom shadow, and the image does not reverse.

  • the easiest way to make her change directions is to look at the reflection of her foot @ the bottom.  imagine that it is coming towards you from the left or the right to make her switch directions :)

  • My theory: it’s a hoax.  The animation reverses direction periodically.  It has nothing to do with your brain.

  • left brained…

  • Mostly clockwise but on the occasions i witnessed her going counter for up to 6 or 8 times & then she would switch back the other way; now how do I get rid of this headache..lol

  • hehe i can see both :)

  • whoa she was spinning clockwise first and then i looked back and she was going the other way i won’t switch back. weirddd. i thought i practically had no left brain. hahha.

  • very, very right brained..

  • which really does not come at all as a surprise..hah

  • Ayem…she was going the other way for a little while….

I have to wonder…is this the pattern of the gif or is this for real?

I look at her and she is going clockwise…

    …then she’s going the other way…

     …then she’s going clockwise…

    ….and then the other way…

    ….I think I love her!

  • In all honesty I took art in school and I know about the differences between the left side and the right side of the brain but there is something up with this picture.  I don’t know if it’s the switching of thoughts or just a trick but if it’s the former….WOW. Great show.

  • Interesting.. I can see both. :)

    -Sarah

  • Clockwise… I guess that makes me right-brained… I am left-handed, does that help? <<< looking again.

  • Counter clockwise,  I had to cover up her shadow to get my mind to see her spin clockwise, after that it was hard to reverse her direction again.  Right brain Left brain? I guess whatever is convenient at the moment.

  • I stared at the shadow – now she’s going CCW – and I cant get her to turn around now. Did the animation change??? Weird.

  • Clockwise for me, but I found that when I read the list of left brain functions, she starts turning counter-clockwise. My husband is very creative and also very logical and analytical. She totally spazzed out for him.

  • I would like to thank you for causing my cousin’s, grandmother’s, and my own brain to hurt. Why does she keep changing directions?

  • i see it both clockwise and anticlockwise

  • i can see both. thats really weird

  • i was able to reverse the field. I focused on the feet and was able to determine her directional spin based on what I willed.

  • I am seeing two directions.  Interesting though vague article and

    A very interesting animation.

  • There are 34 frames in this .gif file.  All are set for 3/100 of a second for viewing each frame and they all appear to be rotating Clockwise.  I don’t see a trick in the image.  I have to assume your brain does the switch for clockwise or counter clockwise or both.

  • I can make her go both ways

  • Every time I blink she “changes directions”.

  • as hard as i try – i cant get her to spin counterclockwise.

  • Not the most exact test… Right Brained, but I knew that. So much easier to judge by hand dominence and written tests…they make my brain hurt less.

  • OMG John…

I just thought of her going in the other direction and she did…

Is this some freaky trick stuff?

  • my husband is a lefty and i’m a righty…but we both see her spinning clockwise!

  • yeah. at first i thought it was clock-wise. but then i looked at it again and she seemed to slow down and then go counter-clock-wise. and now i see it clock-wise again?

    this is crazy.

  • I cannot get it to go counter-clockwise, no matter how hard I try.

  • To me it looks Clockwise, but what do I know.

  • Someone else on xanga had this.  I can’t recall who it was. The lady in the animation spins counter clock-wise and clock-wise, and this thing does not measure whether you are more left-brained or right-brained.  There are other cognitive indicators, such as how you see patterns, how you see the order of objects or statements, and how you analyze numbers, etc.

  • I can see both. My husband sitting next to me sees only counter-clockwise, I see mostly clockwise. WEIRD.

  • counter-clockwise. what does it mean if im left-brained?

  • Wow. That’s trippy but why is she naked?

  • it changes!!!!

  • shes ONLY going counter clockwise

if you look at the way a clock moves and you put the clock on the ground and look at it from the sky or whatever, then you know whetvere shes going counter or clock-wise.

She never switched directions, ever. Shes just going counter clockwise in a 360 motion :]

  • I always thought my brain was ambidextrous, since I scored about equally on both sides of the written test. But I can only see her going clockwise. I tried to perceive her going counterclockwise, but I couldn’t. I must be right brained then.

  • Hey, I can reverse it! It was initially right-brained, though. Makes sense, I’m left-handed. But I -can- reverse it, awesome.

  • weird. its like one of those optical illusions, where something odd pops up in the background

i saw her going clockwise, but when you stare at her feet, the shadows mix and it looks like she is going reverse

    SWEET!

  • I can make her switch directions every time to gets to the left or right side..
not sure what that says, but I figure everybody can do it if they look hard enough.
    What do you think?

  • i’ve seen her go clockwise before but now she’s definitely going anti-clockwise…

  • I looked away, and she changed. Beginning as clockwise, I looked back to see her twirling the other direction.
    wild.

  • Right. For sure. I can’t even see the other way no matter how hard I try. Weird!

  • My brain must be ambidextrous, but I started clocjwise, so maybe more right than left. If this isn’t a scam like some poeple say.

  • at first she was counter-clockwise…then clockwise…now it keeps switching…

  • I saw this too (and blogged about it as well!), and I saw it both ways:

    Right Brain vs. Left Brain

But, after googling about it and stuff, I’ve read that the test isn’t really too dependable. It’s a simple 2-D image, and it intentionally leaves out a lot, so your brain is forced to fill in the details. And theoretically whichever side is more dominant is what direction you see spinning at first and most often (I see counter-clockwise by default).

but I read this is only pseudo-science. the test is simply too simple. i do think it gives a general, ball-park, basic indication though. And I also hear that they’re finding the brain may be split up more into vertical, up-down “sections” in addition to just left-right hemispheres.

human brains (and the rest of humans for that matter) are just too complex! seriously….i don’t think we’ll ever fully understand each other (let alone ourselves!).

  • it changed on me until i spent some time with it. Now it stays clockwise and I can’t get it to change back.

Other tests tell me that I am very slightly right brained, basically in balance. I would say this little test worked very well with me

  • So far I can only see her going clockwise…which makes sense because I’m left-handed, so I’ve always been told I’m right-brained.

  • clockwise, however i am extremely left-brained. what does that mean? also i did succeed to change her direction once. very cool

  • right.

  • that is SO weird ==

  • 1st I thought clock wise, 2nd counter, then I noticed she reverses ever so often. Stared some more, then noticed she reverses direction ever so often. I can almost see what I want to see. Guess I’m ambi.

  • ok, so i looked at it first and got counter-clockwise. when looking up what the left side means, i found a test to take about it also, and got that i was more on the right side. so i looked again and now she’s going clockwise. but i can’t switch it.
haha this is so confusing to me..

  • i’ve taken many tests to see which side is more dominant for me and the results change every time because I always see something different or can see multiple possibilities to the questions so I’m guessing that i’m somewhat ambidextrious brained- unfortunately this means I get confused alot from seeing multiple possibilities to each scenario

  • The easiest way to make her change direction is squint slightly to only see her legs, then force the spinning one to go whichever direction you like, and when you open your eyes that’s the direction she’ll be turning in your mind.

  • it’s programmed to change directions.

  • ok seriously…it switches. I saw counter…then clockwise…then counter…then clockwise. Is this a mean trick? Because she switches feet, too. When her right foot is down, she turns counter clockwise. Then there’s a slight pause and she switches feet and directions.

  • This is SO weird. Her direction switched when I looked away.

  • started counterclockwise then clockwise….and now i cant have her go back!

  • i can see both but i saw her going clockwise first. had to look at the reflection to see it the other way. weird.

  • and it’s an illusion, not something “programmed”

  • Oh creepy! I got to the point where I could change her direction every few seconds just by glancing away. Ambidextrous! Woot.

  • Does anyone else realizes she switches directions? I was watching it and she switched from spinning clockwise to counter-clockwise. It’s definitely not an optical illusion or even a matter of being left or right-brained.

  • You use both sides of your brain. DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • she’s going counter-clockwise, and i can’t make her go clockwise lmao.

ok this is what each side of the brain is “responsible” for, according to this website=]

from http://www.funderstanding.com/right_left_brain.cfm. can’t make the font normal sized though.

  • i think she changes on you… dangit, whatta cheater! lol

  • oops that didn’t work out quite as well as i thought.

right brain- random,  intuitive, holistic, synthesizing, subjective, and looks at WHOLES
left brain- logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective, looks at PARTS

    sry.

  • i am right brained.

  • I’m left brained, but i can make her reverse if I want to. It’s also a lot harder (for me) to see her ccw after i’ve switched to cw.

  • Augh. Okay, I don’t know you, but I tried this. I tried and tried and tried but I just cannot see how it can possibly be going counter-clockwise. I’ve been staring at this thing for like 10 minutes and I still can only see it going clockwise. That’s going to bug me. Hahah.

    ~Abbie

  • clockwise.

what exactly does being right brained mean?

  • OOh, strike that. I did it. Ahah, finally. I guess that means I’m both, then?

    ~Abbie

  • all i see is clockwise.

  • i must be right-brained. What does that mean anyway? What’s the difference between left-brained and right-brained? I could have sworn she’s bobbing up and down.

  • Okay, wait! I left my computer for a little bit and when I came back, she was going counter- clockwise. Then, when I scrolled down a little, she went clockwise again! I’m confused!

  • i think i figured it out. clockwise when looking at her as a whole almost like an aerial view you think of her.. but if you watch her leg it slowly comes out towards you like counterclockwise

  • o.o

    she goes both directions.

    clockwise,stops turns,counterclockwise.

  • if you imagined yourself as her, you would be moving counter clockwise.

  • ugh now im obsessed. i think she her foot is in front of us, and you consider that the 12 on the clock, then it is counter.

  • I can switch between both.

    YAYNESS.™

  • i saw this on something before

if you look at it the first time you see it one way

if you look away for a second or two, it turns the other way

    its pretty sweet

  • Haha, cooolness, I just learned about this in my psychology class too!

…so when I first looked at it, it was counter-clock wise and then I was starring at it and now it’s clockwise, I’m in between :)

    -Amarra

  • I’m convinced there must be a trick to this, but I can’t figure it out. I’ve been staring all day – I am possessed!

  • This is really weird. The first thing I saw was clock-wise, but then I looked at it from another angle and she turned counter-clockwise!

  • Man, my eyes are mixed up now. It’s just both at the same time!

  • Okay. So I looked at it at first, and she was going counter-clockwise. And then I looked away. But when I looked back, she was going clockwise! That’s so freaky.

  • hmmm that’s weird! she was first spinning clockwise on me when i first looked, and no matter how i tried she would not stop spinning clockwise. but then after looking away and coming back, she’s spinning counter-clockwise!

  • she’s going right..and i can’t get it to switch at all.

  • and now it switched to counter clockwise when i looked from a different angle

  • Focus only on the shadow of the foot and move your eyes to the figure, and it will rotate counter-clockwise. Now focus your eyes only on the figure and ignore the shadow, and it will rotate clockwise.

  • my bf’s logical and i’m creative but we both see it the same way clockwise. i think he’s the most logical of all the people here cuz he says why would you spin with your inner leg leading? you always kick outwards, not inwards. so if it’s supposed to be counterclockwise, then her right leg should be on the ground with her left leg spinning and the outer leg going first. if no one gets that, then they’re not truly logical!

  • I can go both ways.  First counter then clockwise.

  • I agree with the person who says this is a hoax.  If you watch her long enough, she reverses.  I wasn’t trying to reverse her, I just watched.  She changes.  Sorry.

  • counter clockwise.. and then.. clockwise after a few seconds o.o so i’m  more left brained than right brained..

  • pretty amazing optical illusion, once i started staring at her feet it was pretty easy to set the stage to switch back and forth at will. I was lead to believe that there is no a such thing as right or left brained people, both sides are fundamentally integrated through the corpus callosum. I have heard about the left hemisphere being more logically oriented while the right shows more activation during spatial tasks though.. and i also have heard somewhere that left vs right side resting activation states demonstrate a natural propensity towards optimism vs pessimism? Not sure how accurate my blabber is about hemispheric lateralization.. someone please correct me :]

  • Doesn’t the video play her turning both right and left?

  • Dudes… Just watch for like 10 minutes straight. I read to comments first to see what other people thought then watched and waited to see if its changes position and she does. Just don’t take your eyes off her, and you’ll notice.

  • C’mon, this has been everywhere – but still worthy of featured? Aiee.

But again, I see her going counterclockwise and I’m definitely more left-brained.

  • she reversed on me too.

    ah that was so cool.

    (:

  • i can get her to go both directions. . .but i don’t know what it is that makes her change.

  • woah…. super wierd! she is definitly going counter clockwise… so, that  means i’m left brained? what does that mean?

and i really tried, but i could NOT get her to go the other direction.

  • you get… NO eProps.

my mother, her boyfriend, my brother, and i all watched at the same time, and its a hoax. we all saw her change directions at the same time.

  • I agree with what some other people are saying, I think that the image changes direction. I saw this twirling woman on another site and as I looked at the image, it twitched and the woman changed direction as sometimes she was spinning on her left leg and sometimes on her right.

  • Wow thats weird. The first time I saw it, it was going counter clockwise but then I started spacing off then the next thing I knew, she was turning clockwise. o.o does this mean I both? lol.

  • I don’t know but at first it was going clock wise, then it started going counterclockwise.. then I figured out that I could switch it in my mind… i can make it clockwise and counter.

  • The girl starts counterclockwise and later begins spinning clockwise.  She changes direction…

  • I think this is a trick.

  • just saw that on yahoo a few days ago. it’s turning which ever way you want cause it’s not 3d but that’s what you imagine it to be. so you can change the directions of her turn by imagining her foot to be facing the front or back.

    I think so anyway

  • This isn’t a very recent thing…this image is VERY old.

Should surf some image boards more often ;)

  • My friend had this up on her xanga in mid-October :S

  • Whoa, I just noticed that if I scroll up or down with the mouse wheel, the image almost shatters and then spins the other way :o

  • Your brain can’t be ambidexterous. dexterity refers to hand usage.

I guess I’m left brained though.

  • clockwise.
and I can’t get her to reverse either.

  • Right-brained, which makes sense because I’m left-handed.

  • It’s both at the same time – just depends on which side of the plane of rotation you’re looking from. :)

  • After staring, I realised she reverses on her own. It’s in the loop of the image.

  • right brain.
i cant help but think that this ballerina is weird.

  • people wondering how this can go left or right…well thats easily, and scientifically explained….

    WITCHCRAFT!!!!! AND SORCERY

    BURN AT THE STAKE

  • Counter clockwise, which means I must be left-brained!  But, I’m left handed, so technically the right side of my brain is supposed to be more developed?  mm, interesting.

  • actually, she just switched directions.  i think the picture just switches randomly at times.  lol

  • I saw it going clockwise, and she goes clockwise a majority of the time, but if i blink and think about it, i can get her to go counter, and sometimes, i can go back and forth. yay! i feel accomplished! …kinda.
    -jen (:

  • I took the left-right brain test on http://www.tickle.com it turns out I’m both- “Balanced Brain”

I also got this same type of test on Dr.Mercola’s website. Everytime I look at the dancer she makes me dizzy (heh heh).

By the way, how do you see her?

Thanks for this…Have a great day.

    Holly

  • I get clockwise but if I focus hard enough I can get it to flip back and forth.  :)

  • she’s been going clockwise for a long time and hasnt gone counter clockwise. its strange that other people see her counterclockwise…

  • I see her spin in one direction and then switch to the other. It’s an optical illusion. Since I was skeptical, I decided to investigate the image itself. It’s a 34 frame animated GIF and I viewed it frame by frame in Adobe ImageReady at a slower speed. Around frame 14 it appears as though she switches direction because that is when her legs cross and the image becomes ambiguous so your brain just choses a direction.

  • It automatically reverses.

You have to scroll up to the top of the page then scroll down to about the middle of the image and up again to get it to reverse.

It’s not a left or right brain test, it’s a hoax.

  • She keeps changing on me.  If I swirl my finger in front of her the opposite way she’s going, my brain automatically makes her synchronize with my finger’s movement.

    Or something like that.

I’m way too easily entertained by this.  You really screwed me over.

    But I saw it counter-clockwise first, so I suppose I’m predominantly left-brained.

  • it doesnt rotate for me it just goes back and forth

  • I don’t see her spinning, i don’t have a brain. :D

Okay, she was going anti-clockwise for a moment, then clockwise the next now.

  • from my view, she doesn’t even “turn”..
her foot would draw a semi circle..

  • egads, okay. the one on your xanga goes clock wise the entire time, but the one on the first link keeps switching directions, it is so confusing.

  • Interesting…

  • Okay, I can see it go counter clock wise now, but do you notice how when she goes counter clock wise, her left leg’s up, and vice-versa?

  • for me she ALWAYS goes counter-clockwise.  I started thinking of math problems though and sure enough she flipped.  Try it

  • lol this is a hoax. it switches counter clockwise to clockwise from time to time

  • ryc – im hoping people actually learn something that’s some what serious in today’s world..

anyway, i can do both, but she turns clockwise more…

  • okay so ur just copying like a million blogs that already posted this weeks ago. =0 sorry im sooo rude.

  • I first saw it as counter, but then it switched…now I keep trying to switch to counter, succeeding, and then having it suddenly switch back to clockwise again without warning!  I must be right-brained.  Yes for emotion and space!

  • THATS WEIRD

    I hate science,it scares me.But I must be left-brained,it counterclockwise.

  • i can see both directions.

  • that shit is trippy!

  • both
    and
    alllll

  • ive been literally staring @ this all day, i can get her to go clockwise and counterclockwise, idk how tho…

  • Haha, that left/right brain test has been circulating for the last few weeks. XD Mine turns clockwise. :) If you focus on the shadow, it turns the other way.

Is there any way to disable eProps? I think that’s probably the only thing bad about the new themes… thanks.

  • right leg up is clockwise, and left leg up is counter-clockwise.  you can switch views when the leg silhouettes merge as it crosses over.

  • definitely right brain~
    i can’t see how it counter clockwise…..

    [egg]

  • at first… i see her rotating anticlockwise…then ..she rotates clockwise..

is it just my eyes or is she rotating both ways? o.O

  • I can see her going both ways.  It’s pretty weird.  At first I saw her going Counter and then when I looked again she was going clockwise.  Her leg seems to move in one direction but if you look at her arm its going in the opposite direction.  Interesting.

  • Ah, this is how this works. Your first initial look at it will likely be in the direction that you are “dominantly brained”. However, knowing that I am a true AMBY, I looked at it from the opposite angle I was already looking at it from. I started more on the left side of my screen, so I switched to the right. I am able to literally switch her back and forth based on the directional angle I am looking at her from.  I wonder how many people are able to do that???

    :) Happy Looking!

  • right brained.

    … is she stopping?

  • She switches back and forth. Completely. Just reverses. So the point doesn’t really make sense to me?

  • i can only see her turning clockwise, making me right brained.

but the characterists of a left brained person fit me way better than the right brain characteristics?

  • both counter , and clockwise . you have to kinda lose focus , and she’ll change direction .

  • wait…. her shadow’s going one way and her body is going the other!

  • theres no way people are making this go clockwise, ive been trying to for like 30 minutes, all i see is counterclockwise.

  • first though she was spinning right now she spins both ways i guess im ambidextrous, i try to be it but its hard. I’m right handed try to write left handed but can’t keep up cause i write to slow left handed. basketball sucked at right hand went to left and it was better.

  • fun! ii saw her go counter first, then clockwise, then swap back and forth a good bit.

  • What’s fun is that she’s standing on a different leg depending on which direction she’s going.  When she goes clockwise she is standing on her left leg, and when she goes counter-clockwise, she is standing on her right leg.

I saw a similar effect at the amusement park.  Once it was dark and all you could see was lights, I couldn’t tell which way the ferris wheel was turning.  It could have been going in either direction, depending on which set of lights was closer.

  • Very interesting, at first I saw her as moving in a clockwise direction. It took me a few minutes, but then I looked at the shadow of her foot and I was then able to see her rotating in a counter clockwise direction. I can now, if I concentrate, make her appear to change the direction of her rotation. I guess I am mainly right-brained, if indeed that is why this phenomenon occurs.

  • Oh my gosh, she started going counter-clockwise, and then I read the paragraph… when I looked back up, she had reversed. Ahhh!

  • cool! i found out im left brained…but im right handed… my sister sed im suposed 2 b left handed… but my mom didn’t believe her… i guess this is proof… cool

  • Hi, I am Teddy. Once you read this you cannot get out. Finish reading this
until it is done! As I said, I am Teddy. I am 7 years old. I have no eyes
and blood all over my face. I am dead. If you don’t send this to at least 12
people I will come to your house at midnight and I’ll hide under your bed.
When you’re asleep, I’ll kill you.
    Don’t believe me?

    Case 1:
    Patty Buckles
Got this e-mail. She doesn’t believe in chain letters. Well, Foolish Patty.
She was sleeping when her TV started flickering on and off. Now she’s not
with us anymore. Ha ha patty, Ha ha! You don’t want to be like Patty, do
    you?

    Case 2:
    George M. Simon
Hates chain mail, but he didn’t want to die that night. He sent it to 4
people. Not good enough George. Now, George is in a coma, we don’t know if
he’ll ever wake up. Ha ha George, Ha ha! Now, do you want to be like George?

    Case 3:
    Valarie Tyler
She got this letter. Another chain letter she thought. Only had 7 people to
send to. Well, That night when she was having a shower she saw bloody Mary
in the mirror. It was the BIGGEST fright of her life. Valarie is scarred for
    life.

    Case 4:
    Derek Minse
This is the final case I’ll tell you about. Well, Derek was a smart person.
He sent it to 12 people. Later that day, he found a $100.00 bill on the
ground. He was premoted to head officer at his job and his girlfriend said
yes to his purposal. Now, Katie and him are living happily ever after. The
    have 2 beautiful children.

Send this to at least 12 people or you’ll face the consequences.

0 people- You will die tonight

1-6 people- you will be injured

7-11 people- you will get the biggest fright of your life

12 and over- you are safe and will have good fortune!

Do What Teddy Says!!!! Hurry, you must send to 12 people before midnight
    tonight

  • o cool i can c her spin both ways!!!

  • somehow I can see both directions o_o. one minute it’s going clockwise and the next minute it’s going the opposite direction.

    what does that mean? ._.

And also, how come every time I try to go to my xanga on private, it says there’s some sort of errorpath or something…

  • She only goes clockwise.  I can’t get her to switch!  I took the simple minds test and I got 80% right brained 24% left brained.  I’ve done other test that told me I’m right brained but this was the first one to explain that right brained people lack the ability to express their ideas verbally.  This is so true for me.  It takes me forever to write my papers and I always find myself drawing what I’m trying to say at work.

  • im right brained

but i use my right hand to write!

  • Counter-clockwise ^.^ So I guess I’m left brained :)

  • ok so i’ve stared at this thing…closed my eyes…looked away and more…there is no way[in my head] that she’s going counter clock wise…..

although for a moment i think i might have seen it counter…i think it was more of a me wanting to than an actual

  • She goes both ways. It started out clockwise, though, so i guess I’m right brained.

  • Who said that they had the balls to keep an old mutherfuckin soldier down like me? Long time no hear John! Happy Veterans Day Mo fo!

     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyUX6wV1lBQ

    ~The Doctor

  • she reversed on me too.

  • I sees she turn left and right and right and left repeatingly!! so what am i???

P/S: mrcolourful, I agreed with you… she does stopped occusionally.. but that’s because it’s a video (kinda) and it replays automatically (eg. 9secs video)… that’s why it stops and turns..

    have a good once guys~

    ta~

  • I can see one way, and then the other occassionally as I blink or think the reverse way.
I thought the actual clip was doing that, but I had my brother and my mom saying which direction it was going at the same time, and it proved me wrong. The picture is going one way, but it’s our brain that’s seeing it other wise. And I thought that was pretty amazing!

SO I guess I can see it with both sides of my brain alternatively. : )

  • she’s on a timer. it’s a set series of images, which you can tell because if you watch for long enough, her feet get closer together and then she switches between counter-clockwise and clockwise.

  • I’ve seen this before.  Starts off clockwise for me, so I’m more right brained I suppose (I’m also left handed so that matches up with that old rule).  But I can easily reverse the direction.

  • Ohmigosh, I finaly got her to turn counter-clockwise!

  • definitely right brained…

  • Ambidextrous brain?

    Cool.

    :D

  • I can reverse her back and forth on will.  Just look at the bottom, it’s the same and all you have to do is picture the swing one way and look up right after it and it’ll spin the way you thought you saw it spin.

  • I can switch direction!! LOL!!

  • dude this is trippy. She was going clockwise first, and then i looked away and looked again and she was going counter clockwise. What the crap?

  • It’s clockwise for me.

  • Clockwise at the first sight. Feeling very hard to see it anti-clockwise.

But I soon found the trick is to see the hanging feet being in background or foreground, so I forced myself to repeat “back”/”front”/”back”/”front”… when I watch it. It turns anti-clockwise after 5-6 cycles.

See how knowledge change my perception, but still I think I’m more right brained.

  • Hmm. Unfortunate. She rotates counter-clockwise for about four seconds, then spends quite a while going right, then another 4 seconds counter… Sorry. It’s a scam. Just watch it for a minute, and you’ll see it’s not the brain, it’s the image.

  • It changes with literally every rotation for me.  It’s all about which side you think is her front…. very weird.  Thanks for posting this!

  • ok, here’s the trick to making it work both ways.  When you first start, it’ll be rotating one way.  Look down to the foot and watch it rotate, then immagine it rotating the other way.  Once you can see the foot rotating in the oposite direction, you automatically see the whole person rotating in the other direction.

  • if u watch closely she changes the leg thats up… shes always
turning tword the leg thats up, but she changes direction. so it looks
as if she is always turning the same way but yet she isnt. its just an
    illusion.

  • she keeps switching on me, it’s starting to freak me out.

  • seems like my brain is ambidextrous…

  • when i first look at it, it goes to the right.  but then i can make it go to the left with my ambidextrous ninja mind control

  • Whoah.  She totally just reversed.

Not sure what to make of that.

  • Clockwise.. been staring at it for minutes and I can’t understand how could it be seen as anti-clockwise, does anyone know how it works?
any right-handers (supposedly left-brained) who got clockwise or lefties (supposedly right-brained) who got anti clockwise? haha

  • ….it’s an optical allusion….your eye interprets which way it goes…because the curve of her hip could attach to either leg….so your brain/eye decides….Cool.

  • ok she rotated directions as i was looking at her.  i think this is a scam.

  • at first she was clockwise but then after she went counter clockwise

    and now shes clockwise again.

  • she turn counter then clockwise. I see the movement change. That’s weird, what does that mean of me?

  • clockwise.

    but i could reverse it.

    :]

  • i saw her anti clockwise for a while..then i tried to make it clockwise and now i can do both ways

  • The trick is to see her leg going behind her and then to see her leg going infront of her. Since she is all one color it is up to the mind to determine if her leg is going behind her or infront of her. That information is assumed and not a given. cool when you realize you are really the one determining reality. It wouldn’t work if we could see her body front and back.

  • She is always spinning clockwise when I first look at her. BUT now… I have mastered switching her back and forth! ;) hehe

  • Uhm
    Incase you all didn’t notice
after like a minute she changes wich way she is going
    Duhhhh!

  • What a hoax.

  • I’m pretty sure the whole left brain right brain thing is exaggerated by popular psychology, and I can’t entirely shake the feeling that this might be a scam or a trick. Still, I’m reasonably sure I can make her change directions. Default is clockwise for me, and if I start thinking maths she goes anti-clockwise. Then when I start reciting poetry she goes back to clockwise.

  • I saw it spin both ways.

  • Oh my gosh!
She’s going clockwise for me but then after a second I thought I could see how it coud go counter-clockwise and now I can’t.

My brother see’s it going clockwise and my cousins see’s it switch from going clockwise to counter and back again.

    WEIRD!

  • I can see both, the best way to learn to see it the other way is to focus on the foot, then look at the doll again.

  • I can see both.

    Very interesting huh

  • I cannot see how it goes counter clockwise. I looked at it a few times but still, clockwise. I don’t understand how it can go counter clockwise.

  • Okay when I first looked at this, she only went clockwise, for the longest time.

I got really frustrated and now I can see her going counter-clockwise and she even appears to stop mid-rotation and just turn to one direction and then back to the other.

Her foot animation actually appears to change and when her left foot’s down she’s turning clockwise, right foot down, counter-clockwise.

Honestly I’m starting to think it’s a hoax and somehow changes at random times.
I don’t know if that’s even possible, but I swear I was studying her planted foot animation and it looks different for different directions, which is why everyone says look at her foot and you’ll see her switch.

  • She reversed multiple times – clockwise a few seconds and then counterclockwise a few seconds. =/
    Freaky.

  • she reverses… her leg switches when she changes from being clockwise to counter and vice versa… unless I’m imagining things…

  • when i first got on the page, it was definitely counter clockwise and then i read the post and looked back over and she was going clockwise. now i need to go back and see what i see.

  • can only see it go clockwise.

  • I honestly cannot see how she is going counter clockwise. I tried so hard but it’s like, illogical. It’s like trying to alter reality when I’m trying to see her go counterclockwise.

  • What the hell now I can switch direction on will. It just depends on if you look at the bottom half and decide when the leg is closer to you and when it’s farther. Wow, now it’s ridiculously easy to switch, so i see what I want to see. Freaky.

  • at first i couldnt get her to switch from counter-clockwise to clockwise. but to get her to switch i just kept looking under the picture a little bit and telling myself she’d switch her leg thats up to the other. i told myself she’d switch legs when her body was facing to either side and she’d switch the leg that was up to the other and turn the other way. she’s kinda creepy haha.

  • check my blog tomorrow about this gif. picture. haha

  • clockwise only clockwise……..

  • oh nvm.im lazy to write. hehe

  • she stopped.. and then she went the other way. so uhm both?

  • Upper half is clockwise, lower half is counter-clockwise.

    TAKE THAT, SCIENCE.

  • Reversed on me too.

  • Both directions for me.

  • the photo changes, keep looking at the feet then you’ll see about a minute in it’ll change in direction.

  • honestly, i think whoever made it had it go one way, and then switches it to go the other way.
it’s not that i try to see it like that, but the fact that the leg that’s in the air changes shows she changed direction

  • wow i saw it turning clockwisely at first, but then i saw it turning anti-clockwisely!

  • i can see both. i found it counter-clockwise first, then saw it clockwise. i didn’t find a need to force it to do this, but once i see it clockwise, i have to try to see it counter-clockwise again.

    me 2!!

  • HEY! she keeps switching!

  • It’s easier to see if you use your side vision. Don’t look directly at the figure and open a chat window or something to type in and look with your side vision, then you can control the swing.

  • Um…I’m both brained? After staring at her for a while, she’ll turn the other direction, and then she’ll turn again.

I guess, I am more right brained than I am left brained, cause I see her going more clockwise than counter-clockwise… but after a couple minutes, it’s about even. Probably because I’ve gotten used to it or something.

  • aha!
at first it was right-brained, then left-, and so forth.
i’ve got this switching thing down =]

  • holy cow…at first it was counter-clockwise, then it all of the sudden changed! that is really weird!

  • Looks like it reverses every 60 seconds or so.

  • Counter clockwise…. I don’t see the other way at all.

  • Counter clockwise… and I can’t see how anyone else gets it clockwise lol… oh well..

  • lol you should show people what it means to be left and right brained

  • This thing changes direction and I’m almost positive it’s not our minds doing it….

  • wth. i am so lost.

it changes randomly. like when i look away and come back to it.
how does this tell if you’re right/left brained.

  • what the heck is this?? it turned counter-clockwise at first and then it spinned clockwise (which was longer than the counter-clockwise) weird O_O

  • “clockwise.  she has nice racks”

I believe you meant, “a nice rack”.
You see, a rack is a set of breasts, although I understand why one would be left in the dark about that to assume that a rack would be one breast. Many people are unclear on the usage of this term, which is why I’m glad J.K. Rowling used it in one of the Potter books, demystifying a whole new audience of people. But on the contrary, it is not one breast, unless you say “half a rack” or something of the like.

     The more you know.

    I should be slapped..

  • Wow, this is interesting… I stared at it for a while and couldn’t imagine how she could be going counter-clockwise but then I decided to focus on one point and see if I could view that as counter-clockwise, like her stationary foot and once I saw that I looked at everything else… I guess that means I can train my left brain to kick in when I need it… but it takes a bit of effort.

  • clockwise -so, right brained.

  • how do you guys see counter clockwise?? i stared at this thing for five minutes, and no ccw.

  • wrong. I see her rotating counter-clockwise, but I cannot very well be left-brained as I just happen to be very left-handed.

  • your nasty

  • i inmediatly imagined the clock under her, facing upwards and imagined her foot was sliding on top of the cruved glass that covered the clock… so clockwise… right brained.

  • hah woooow i’m definitely right brained (mainly because i know that from my psychology class but okay.) and i have no idea how people see her turning counter clockwise. apparently i’m just stronger right brained than i thought?

  • im right brained.. good to know..

  • lol to the “racks” guy..

  • what if in my case she goes both ways.. one min she is clockwise.. when I look down and look bak up she is goin counter clockewise.???

  • Just now the Cable TV news channel of Hong Kong did a feature story on this dancing lady (unbelievable isn’t it). A local psychology professor says that it’s just some eye trick and has nothing to do with your brain-sidedness.

They decipher the pic and see that the dancer actually is made up of about 25 frames, one of which can be perceived as either the dancer facing you or having her back against you. She spins 180 degree anticlockwise, then turns backward.

Her advice is try blocking out all but the legs of the dancer with your hands, or watch the dancer upside down, that should help you ‘switch your brain-sidedness’. My personal advice though is blink really fast ;)

  • im seeing it both ways. huh. cool.

  • it’s not switching itself. what happens is that when the feet cross, it’s all black, therefore, you cant tell whether or not the foot is going in front of or behind the other. so at one point you’ll be looking at it when your mind tells you its behind the other foot, then when you turn away and turn back, it’s telling you its in front of the other. understand?

  • Clockwise, and I have no idea how to view it any differently!!

  • I was able to actually get her to stop and speak to me.  She has agreed to make love to me after she stops spinning counter-clockwise.  I’m very excited!  Thanks, John!

  • For me, I guess I’m stronger right brained (at least right now?) I scrolled down and scrolled back up and she was spinning the other way, but when I blinked, she was clockwise again. I can’t seem to get her to reverse just trying.

  • Oh, I figured out how I can make her switch. If I look at her, she’s spinning clockwise, but if I glance at her shadow then look back, she’s counterclockwise, but the clockwise is still the default – idk. This is cool.

  • I’ve been tested previously and am nearly balanced between hemispheres, with a slight right brain preference, and can make the dancer go either way but this dancer thing is more of an optical illusion (our brains reading 2D as 3D motion) than it is a test of our mental proclivities.

The reality of our cooperative hemispheres is far more complex.

The test will have both accuracy and a high degree of inaccuracy and here are just a few reasons why. The compartmentalization of functions theory is only minimally true and patterns can be greatly altered.  The “lateralization of brain function” of the 1960’s gave way to modern brain imaging technology showing that multiple areas of the brain are involved in cooperation between hemispheres. We also found out from hemispherectomy (surgical removal of an entire brain hemisphere) patients that their brains altered those cooperative patterns as the one hemisphere took over functions from the absent hemisphere! Additionally, it’s been found that the longer that students have art, the higher many of their math and other skills or why mathematically gifted students often test better than average students when doing tasks requiring more cooperation between hemispheres.  As someone on the autism spectrum, I know that this is yet another way to be “differently wired.”

The brain sciences are actually in their infancy. That is what this dancer calls to mind.

  • sitting here staring at it…now I can make her go either way pretty easily. How neat.

  • I only see one direction!

  • I see clockwise first.

I’ve found that it’s easier for me when spinning my finger in the direction I want to see as the silhouette moves.  Like if the leg that’s up is moving left, then I correspond my finger to move left at the top of my counter clockwise circle.  I hope that wasn’t too confusing.

  • wait i don’t understand! the only way i see it is clockwise, how could it be going the other direction? and how can you just magically reverse the direction? …mystical.

  • This can’t be real, I’ve tried different methods to see if it was actually possible. I looked directly at it, I looked away (using perifial vision), I tried each eye closed, and I tried blinking fast over a period of times. I don’t see this being possible.

    ~^6^~

  • i really think she changes direction if you watch it carefully, there’s a slight pause and she goes counter clockwise. Her stance also changes by shifting from standing her left leg and swinging her right leg clockwise to standing on her right leg and swinging her left leg. Or maybe it’s an optical illusion. I don’t know. I see both though.

  • I’m sure you’ve heard that it’s an optical illusion, John!  It’s either, and it has nothing to do with brain-hemisphere dominance :-p

  • how can sum1 think its goin counter clockwise.

  • I don’t know how the hell anyone could get that lady to spin clounter-clockwise.  She’s going clockwise, 100% clockwise.  I am s=/confused…and also, I’m starting to think that anyone who claims they can see it go both ways is hallucinating.  :-/

  • Geez, typos.  But hey, it’s Sunday — I’m allowed to look stupid on Sundays.

  • my husband saw both but I only saw her going counterclockwise, but she does slow down and I think i saw her switch legs once… not sure, it was weird

  • Wow. You guys are really sad if you think it’s YOU that is switching it from clockwise to counter because it does it by itself, it’s a trick….watch it carefully.

  • now I see it clockwise! I did it, but now I can’t get back to counter clockwise.  haha

  • Hmmm… I’ve seen both directions.  It seems like just as I see her going consistently clockwise I’ll blink or look away and she goes counter clockwise.  I wonder if the animation is tricksy?

  • I think this is a trick because she reverses positions periodically.  At one point she has her right leg up and leading but then there’s a pause and it switches to the left leg up and leading.  Just watch it for awhile.

  • If you pay attention, you will notice that she switches legs. She goes clockwise when her right leg is rotating and goes counter-clockwise when her left leg is rotating. This isn’t an accurate way of determining whether you are left or right brained!

  • She’s twirling clockwise here. So, I’m right brained, what does that mean lol?

  • both ways

there’s no way it’s just “switching” randomly

i had my friend come over here and she couldn’t see it spinning clockwise for awhile

    i mostly see it clockwise

but i agree with the dominant eye theory, not dominant brain…

my hypothesis is since it’s a silhouette your brain will place the standing leg on one side… you can’t tell what side of her body it REALLY is because she’s spinning so quick.

it’s just silhouette trickery. think about it.

if you can’t get it to switch, focus on her legs when they are lined up… that’s when the switch is made

  • She clockwised.

Then I sat back confused for a bit and she reversed.

  • It goes both ways!!

  • ack! i see her as going clockwise… and i can’t get her to change… but the characteristics of right brained people fits so… woot! go right brains!

  • clockwise, so i’m right-brained.

does it matter that i’m left handed?

  • She reversed on me, but she may change directions if given enough time. Eh, I’ll try and figure it out. There has to be a logical explanation.

But she was counter clockwise first, then I looked away and looked back at her shadow and she was going clockwise. I was like, O.O””. lol She’s aliveeee!

  • If she starts clockwise, and you stare at the shadow, you can make her go counter clockwise. This takes more of one side of your brain to work, in order to change her direction. I believe it would have to be your left side?

It also has to do with the colors and the amount of time it takes for her to turn. It allows us to change it.

  • Not so much.  I’m verified left brained and I see her going clockwise.

  • I look for a moment, it’s clockwise….I look again…it’s counter-clockwise…

dude…my site is “Brain Fried” for a reason.

  • i can see both.

  • she stops her spinning and drops down every few seconds but she stays spinning clockwise

  • wth?  that’s creepy.  what is with all the reversal?  she reversed & then she reversed back & then she reversed again…& i know i didn’t do a thing to make her change.  so what exactly is that really telling me?

  • Very right brained, but with great effort I can make spin the other way.  Unfortunately this takes too much effort to maintain.

  • its pretty obvious, after a while she switches directions then switches back again, this is completely a waste of time.

  • the dancer definitely changes directions.
    this was a hoax.
    :[

  • I see counter-clockwise every time.

Also, she goes faster when I scroll down so I can only see her feet.  That probably means my graphics card isn’t up to the job!

  • Clockwise…no matter how many times i looked away and looked back she’s still turning clockwise and I’m failing to see how on earth she could be construed to be seen turning anti-clockwise.

  • wow difficult im right brained den.

  • I’m glad you guys all can see her go different directions. She’s stuck going clockwise for me, which is irritating cause I want to see her go the other way like everyone else, lol.

  • this is sweet.  I think people can see it as either because her foot that she is “standing” on never completely rotates 360 degrees, it only rotates 180 degrees.  I can see both, but first saw her moving clockwise.  guess that means i’m right brained.  weird.

  • I see her going clockwise and counter clockwise. Even before I read after the question. hmm…I’m both?

  • .. i can’t figure out how to make her spin clockwise.
i’ve been staring at if for about five minutes too v__v”

  • it’s clockwise…so i’m right brained

  • I have a different theory.  When she’s spinning clockwise, it appears that you are looking down at her from a slightly higher vantage point; when counter-clockwise, you are looking slightly up at her.  I theorize that those who see her first as moving clockwise are just trying to look down her shirt, and those who see her moving counter-clockwise first… well…..

  • I swear she keeps changing directions every thirty seconds.

  • I’ve figured this out. It’s a lot of crap, no offense. Everyone is saying, or almost everyone is saying that when they look at it and then look away and look back they see it going in a different dirrection.

Look at it long enough, DONT LOOK AWAY. You will be able to see that she switches dirrection. Concentrate (sp?) on her legs and feet. it stops for a slpit second and changes dirrections on you.

  • that is so weird…counter clockwise… but i almost feel like i can make her slow down sometimes… no reversing though. I’m going to be staring at this all night.

  • what garbage. it’s clearly a hoax, she keeps on switching.

  • i can only see clockwise.

  • at first I swear she was going counter, then she was going clockwise.  now no matter how hard I look she’s still clockwise…  and as soon as I said that I scrolled back up and she switched to counter.  This is going to require research lol thanks for putting in a link.  I wanna say… since I haven’t followed the link yet… it’s a trick, right?

  • at first counter clockwise

    then

    i refreshed this page

    clockwise!

haha, i think i know the trick. it has nothing to do with left brain or right brain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It just loops, and it goes in both directions. There’s no way to look at it and see it going the other way. If you watch it long enough you’ll see when it changes.
    It’s totally fake.

  • clockwise deffinatley. whats the difference between left and right brains? is left smarter or something?

  • she is going clockwise for me… freaky

  • clockwise. period. how do see that it changes?!

  • she keeps reversing on me too!

  • It changes at intervals. It doesn’t mean anything.

  • both ways!! weiiiird

  • some one above “mai_justdance” said it rightly, that it’s not really our brain, but she stops and turns the direction automatically, i guess it’s just been programmed…

i literally observed it closely for at least 20 minutes nonestop, and u will find out urself, too, if u spend some time to see… sorry if that spoils the mystery…

quite entertaining by the way…  =)

  • she definitely switches positions.

  • Def. clockwise… I can’t reverse her no mater how hard I try…

  • Initially I see her rotating clock-wise.  Then I looked a lil deeper and saw her shadow.  Her shadow seems to be rotating counter clock-wise.  *shrug*

  • omg i can only see her going clockwise. that is so frustrating!

  • I see clockwise… although when i concentrate on the shadow below her, she’s going counterclockwise.

  • For those of you saying it is a hoax – I don’t think it can be. If I focus on her feet, I can make her just wobble back and forth (facing forward).

  • i see counterclockwise but i could of sworn the first 30 seconds she was spinning the other way?

  • i see it clockwise, but i can reverse.  but it’s harder to get it back to clockwise.  so i don’t know what that means.  it probably means i can force myself to think either left or right brain !

  • boo. =]
i commented “TheXangaTeam”, & your on the team or something right? If so, i was just going to leave you this comment. I hope you don’t mind. =] i’d send you a mini but i don’t have enough credits on this account because i rarely use it….
    ——————————————————————

Can you buy other things on Xanga with credits besides Minis? If so, what? Because I love minis & I think they’re cool & all, but it’s kind of dumb if you can only buy Minis with your credits. Like, maybe there is some other stuff people could buy if they rack up or save up enough Minis. Like, maybe a month of premium or something. Or maybe for the real extreme people, a Lifetime of premium. Or possibly something like having their site featured on the front page for a day or something. Or have a contest to see who can rack up the most Minis & then give them some kind of reward or something…. Just a suggestion.

    ———————————————————————————————

Well, i just took a look at how much the Minis “cost”. 500 credits for a Mini that says “Best Friends Forever” is a little much. Because a person would have to comment about 250 people to get that many credits. What if the person can’t get that many credits but wants to say that to someone? What if someone wants to give someone a Mini but they haven’t been on Xanga long enough to gain any credits? I think the free Minis were a pretty good idea. That way incase someone didn’t have enough credits, or didn’t have any credits, they could use one if they really wanted to.

  • it freaking switches directions

  • Wooooh! lol I can make her change in any direction I want. Stare at her shadow and imagine it going the way you want it to. When the foot shadow gets into like… the middle, you can make it change. It’s very fascinating.

  • erm.

i think the picture of the dance switches back and forth?

    or am i dellusional?

    i’m ambidextrous i suppose then…because at times, shes going clockwise…other times she’s moving counter-clockwise.

  • Can anyone else make her go whatever way you want her to? It all has to do with the direction of the foot shadow, that basically stays stationary. If you focus on the direction it’s going in, then you can find the perfect time, when you can switch it with your mind. It’s when it’s in a diagonal direction, with the toes farthest away from you. Just try it out, and send me an OOC message. I wanna see if anyone else can figure this out, like I did. Any other smarty pants out there? lol

  • Ok, so it started out going clockwise and then it switched. I think it is randomly generated as to which way it turns.

  • i can’t see it  turning counter clockwise……i’m only seeing her turning clockwise!! ughhh!!!

  • actually, i think i figured out how to reverse directions. just concentrate on the shadow cast by her swinging feet. By momentarily imagining her feet going the other direction, you can see her rotate the other direction.

  • clockwise… clockwise!

  • I see clockwise… I must be right brained! ^_^

  • Finally, I figured it out. The main leg (not the one that is extended), appears to do a complete turn, while it’s shadow only goes from side to side. If you covered the body and other leg up with your hand, and watch the leg below the knee cap, you’ll see that it does not in fact spin. It too, goes from side to side. The complete rotation of the leg and body, is meant to confuse the mind. What you want to focus on is the foot and it’s shadow. If you just look at the body, it makes it look like the foot is actually spinning and the toes point to you. These are not the toes. This is just the foot spinning from side to side, quickly. So, if you imagine it going to the left and focus on it going to the left, it will. (If you catch it at the right time, when it is going to the left.) Then remove your hand and look at the body. It is going in that direction. Don’t be fooled by the body and the foot. The foot is not actually making a full rotation, just spinning from side to side.

If you get good at it, you can change it whenever you want without covering it, like me. Wooh! It took me 30 minutes to figure this puppy out. Cool. ^^ Send me an OOC message if someone figures it out, too.

  • It started clockwise for me, but upon staring for awhile I was able
to get her to go counter clockwise. Upon further workb I could get her
to switch at my will in mid rotation. Pretty cool.

  • I already know that I am in my “right” mind.

  • i’m pretty she rotates both ways. wonder what that is…

  • it doesn’t have anything to do with ur left/right brain nor is it a trick of the eye.. it just geos clockwise at first, n then changes automatically after a certain amt of time.

    scammage.

  • i can make her go back and forth on command….just watch her heel and shadow carefully and focus on making her turn around its pretty sweet!

  • wrong it’s not a trick….prove it, get three people together and watch at the same time.you can say when it stops, turns and changes, everyone will see something different. It is caused by perception and if you have what’s called a “balanced brain” you can watch her, and change her direction at will …………. if you don’t believe me take a few minutes to leave Xanga world and google “balanced brain”

  • i’ve been staring and i cant get it to go counter clockwise!

  • She for sure reversed…I remember her pointy boobs coming at me a whole different direction…

    Silly thing

  • She switches it up for me.

  • o_O I saw her as counter-clockwise… then after a lil’ effort I made her switch directions.  Then I was able to make her turn counter-clockwise again.  Weird.  Pretty cool though =).

  • :O I looked at it and she was going counter clock wise
then I looked again and she was going clockwise
and so I tried to do it again, but now she’s just going clock wise :|
So I guess I’m mostly right brained
    but I already knew that

  • At first I saw it clockwise, then I started looking at the feet only and it went counter-clockwise. I tried to make it clockwise again, and it kept on switching from counter-clockwise to clockwise, and vise versa.
It’s making my head hurt. I swear my eyes are playing tricks on me now..

  • I can see both, clockwise and vice versa. She changes.

  • Okay, this can’t be a scam. At first, I thought it was really moving on its own. But my boyfriend and I were both looking at it at the same time and he would see her switch back and forth, while for me, she kept going clockwise. How weird!

  • hahahaha, I can control how she spins!!  just look at the shadow of her feet and you pick which way to spin her, why can’t all women be that easy to deal with.  :o )

  • why cant i see it as closewise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!><!!!

  • and now i cant see it as counter clockwise back LOL

  • it’s not that complicated.
it just depends on which side of her body you look at…

i think this has hardly anything to do with right or left brained.

  • i’m right-brained, my bf is left -_- he keeps telling me that it’s counter clockwise…
    this thing is awesome (:

  • hey it cheats…
One’s with right leg up and another one with left leg up =O=!!

  • I used to think that I could only this girl spinning clockwise, but I spent some time trying to crack it, and now I can easily see it spinning both ways.  HINT:  Don’t look at the feet like everyone tells you.  If you really want to see the transition without having to “imagine” the foot going the opposite direction, look at the girl’s thigh area.  You can see very easily how the extended leg toggles back and forth.  First, it appears to be the woman’s left leg.  Then, it appears to be her right.  If you look at it this way, you can actually switch the lady’s direction before she even makes a full turn.  This is a classic example of how your brain tries to interpret a 2D image as a 3D object and only ends up confusing the brain.

    So cool.  :-3

  • you can completely control this by staring at the shadow of her foot on the ground.  it looks like she’s circling her leg in front of her, and when you look up at a certain moment, depending on if her foot is going left or right, thats the way she’ll turn.  but when the image skips you can clearly see her switch her legs

  • yeah that’s pretty freaky…how does it work?! Is it really all in our brains? or is the computer really reversing her positions and trying to trick us into thinking it’s just our brains? first I thouhgt ‘of course it’s going clockwise’ but then after i watched it for a while I saw it go counter clockwise and it was so freaky! And it switched back and forth…which is it really?

  • Are you sure that you don’t have it timed to switch directions after a certain amount of time? That is too crazy. Must be both right and left brained :)

  • very cool i can go back and forth…at first i saw it clockwise then it took my awhile to get the counterclockwise and now i go back and forth its cool but i dont’ get it lol

  • I see it turn both ways lol.

  • i can only switch by the use of reflection. haha!!

  • Both.

  • I saw both…hmm..

  • It’s an illusion

  • At my first glance she is turning clockwise.  A few second later it switch to counterclockwise.  What does that mean?  Anyway, I think I’m more of a right brain since majority of the time it keep switching back to clockwise.

  • I can see both, though it took me a second–I looked down at the reflection and when I looked up, she was going in the opposite direction.  Whether or not that means I use both sides of my brain, I don’t know…but it was cool anyhow.

  • If i see both does that mean its half and half?

  • The .gif itself rotates.
    Nothing magical about it, asshole.

  • haha, after you figure out how to switch them back and forth you can make her spin whatever you way you want

    very cool.

  • Are you sure this thing doesn’t just switch mid-play randomly? It was one, then her leg slowed and it went the other way and then back again.

  • sorry for a double comment but for those who want to know just watch her legs, that’s the key to making her spin the way you want.

  • Both ways, but most of the time, going clock-wise. w00t.

  • It’s a hoax.  She switches both ways.  Figure out which hand and foot she’s holding out, then watch in for two minutes or less.  I promise you that in that time, she will suddenly hold out the opposite hand and foot.

    It’s not your brain.

  • My roommate and I both had her going in different directions at one point in time… then she started changing randomly on both of us…. o-o

  • She switched legs half way through.

  • I’m left brained but when I take other tests I’m right brained! WHAT IS THIS?! HAHAHA

  • she went counter- and then clockwise. she’s playing tricks on me!

  • Left brained and left handed!

  • This is really cool!

  • Both. I guess my brain can swich back and forth. It’s like when you don’t think about it, it swiches. but you have to think about not thinking about it.

  • clockwise..right brained…what does that mean then…that means im more to the mathematical side than the artistic side?

  • … omg I’m ambidextrous. what does this mean? haha. kinda funny.

  • Holy cow. Okay Guys Try this. Close your mind and envision the girl spinning clockwise, open them. Then envision the girls spinning counter clockwise. See what happens. But make sure you actually devote a couple seconds to thinking about it turning in the direction you want it too.

              -Sam

  • I can only see counterclockwise.

    Hold me closer Tony Danza.

  • LOL! Squeekysoul. Awesomeness. Every time I hear that song I think of Hold me closer Tony Danza. And then I realized dude… its tiny dancer… woah….

anyways… Yeah. I think I’m Mostly right brained. But I can deffinetly switch if I want to. If this illusion really has anything to do with right/left brained ordeal.

  • all i see is counter clockwise…

  • Totally take that back… It also deals along the lines of what you’re thinking at that moment. I looked up from the last comment and she was spinning left brained… And I couldn’t change it as easy. glanced up for a second and then she turned around. Its all what you’re thinking and what you choose to think and how you want her to turn, thats how she turns. Whether you look at her shadow or her raised leg/hips. Just how you want to see it period. And that varies every couple minutes/ seconds.

  • oh now i see it.

    tricky…

  • You can just tell by what hand you use to write with. I mean the right controls the left hand and the left controls the right hand.

  • i cannot see it turning clockwise lol

  • if you are interested in fashion visit this newly made fashion site:
    hhtp://www.xanga.com/mylittleblackcloset

  • This is so crazy… o_O I can not see it any other way but clockwise… and concentrating on her foot doesn’t help x_x

  •  so confusing yes its true but i’m an engineer and from my persepective if you study her shadow she is definitely going clockwise try it and you can’t go wrong

    neeh

  • This is the only test to ever tell me I’m right-brained. All others tell me I’m whole brain, dominate left.

So I don’t believe it. But it’s still potentially interesting.

  • READ THIS IF YOU CARE: 1) This is a programmed image that rotates in both ways, clockwise (CW) and counter-clockwise (CCW), at random; 2) it has nothing to do with our being left-brained or right-brained; 3) it has nothing to do with our ways of perception, or preconceptions; 4) it has nothing to do with our mental ability to actually control and switch the rotating directions at our will.

Use you common sense.  Look at her right foot and the shadow of her right foot.  When she is rotating in CCW direction, the shadow of her right foot shows up from right to left when her body begins to turn from right to left, her back is facing us, and her right leg is in the BACKGROUND.  But you do not see the shadow of the right foot when she begins to turn from left to right, her front body is facing us, and her right leg is in the foreground.  This is perfectly normal and makes sense because, given the size of the image and especially that the bottom of the image is cut short, which means that we have only limited view of the foreground area of the shadow that is closer to us, but we do have a full view of the background area of the shadow that is farther way from us, hence, the shadow of her right foot should only show up when it is in the BACKGROUND.

NOW, when she is rotating in CW direction, you still see the shadow of the right foot shows up from right to left just like in CCW direction (which means, in fact, that the shadow stays the same and does not change directions, and you can easily see that by blocking the entire body on the top and looking only at the shadow itself).  BUT, the difference lies in the fact that you see the shadow only when her right foot is in the FOREGROUND instead of in the background.  This certainly does not make sense.

According to our common sense and the reason just explained above, when we have only limited view of the foreground area of the shadow that is closer to us, we will NOT be able to see the shadow in the FOREGROUND area (since it has been cut short at the bottom of the image), but can ONLY see the shadow in the BACKGROUND area that is farther away from us.

This clearly shows that, and with the shadow as our point of reference: 1) it is the body itself that changes its rotating directions and has nothing to do with our being left-brained or right-brained; 2) it has nothing to do with our preconceptions or the ways we see things, because if the body really actually changes its rotating directions according to our usual perceptions, then the shadow must also change its rotating direction with it: meaning, the shadow of the right foot should show up when the right foot is in the BACKGROUND only and always; 3) it has nothing to do with our brain power and whether it has the ability or not to switch the rotating directions of the body at our will, because if that’s really the case, you should also be able to change the way the shadow rotates and appears: meaning, again, that the right foot should only show up when it is in the BACKGROUND.

The image itself is doing the trick and is programmed to do so.  TRY THIS: just relax and forget about everything that says that this is a test of your brain power or ability, but just stare at the image with an emptied mind, and without having you doing anything whether mentally, emotionally, physically, or even spiritually, the naked body will go on to change its rotating directions back and forth at random in every minute or two all by itself.

  • Ok, I immediately saw her as going clock-wise. But then I read the post and tried to make her go the other way. I couldn’t for the life of me. I clicked the to read more and as I was analyzing why I was right-brained and all that, she switched on me! I have taken quizzes to see which I am before and they are always border-line. So maybe this proves it. I just had to switch which part of my brain I was using! The freakiest was when she switched back to clockwise as I was watching her…

  • interesting (regarding the comment above mine…) Now I feel stupid.

  • I agree with the “thanks for making me feel stupid” feelings
It kills me that people could say this is just a hoax and that if it was true I guess we’d all be stupid.. but I had when I first saw it just believed it was 2d so you could imagine the leg in the front or the back. I didn’t really want to think about it-but it was killing me so I tried to imagine it going both ways and it worked, probably. It made sense while I was staring at it. I don’t want to think about proving it when it made sense while I was staring at it but wonder if I’m just submitting to my stupidness for not thinking about it. But why do I even have to think about it in the first place when it’s just a freaking animation?

  • at first i thought anti-clockwise which would make me left brained, then i thought clock-wise which would make me right brained. Im now trying to intentionally reverse the direction back to anti and can’t.

  • o yeh… it reversed again. cool

  • It only went clockwise for me and it took me a little while to even see how it would go counter-clockwise.

  • eeeeeeee Gods. she is multi directional. Does this mean I am insane?

  • i can see both directions, but i hardly think im ambidextrous

  • clockwise; right-brained

still clockwise no matter how hard i tried; ambidextrous

  • I think I’m a bit of both

  • I’m whole-brained… I already knew this, actually, but I can see the figure spinning both ways. :)

  • Counter clockwise.
Left brained it is then. =]

  • oh i think it must be a trick.. cuz it keeps changing directions and i swear i’m not imagining it..

  • definatley clockwise

  • totheworldx7 is right, if u look at it for a while, its clockwise, but then it changes to counterclockwise!!!

  • I should be both-side-brained. It reverses each time I blink.

  • At first i got clockwise then i got counter clockwise, so what do i get? right brained or left brained?

  • it just keeps going back and forth for me depending on how I focus it to turn. Kind of cool. I’m ambidextrous. woohoo! =]]

  • I can’t get her to go any way but counter clockwise…  Is that why I was always bad at Math?

  • The news report said it is just an illusion.

  • you’re just making a fool out of the people… the picture really changes directions.. it goes counter clockwise for just a short time and so clockwise for a longer one… the effect was a longer exposure to clockwise direction so that the change to counter clockwise can be considered a brain trick when in fact it is not! go and observe it by staring at it and taking note of of the changes!

  •   i can only see her go clockwise how can you people see her go counter-clockwise oh god my head hurts and now i have a headache.

  • it keeps changing and i’m getting confused how does this animation work

  • i can make her go either way just by thinking about it.

what does that mean? i’ve done this before at work and the same thing happened there.

i guess that means i’m a balanced person and use BOTH sides of my brain

  • lol, took me some time to get it in reverse
    cool stuff tho :)

  • I got both directions… clockwise for about 10 sec then counterclockwise another 10 sec then back again without really focusing hard. It keeps on reversing. My wife could only see it turning clockwise. I think there is merit to the interpretation because when I tried to take a Tickle test whether I am left or right-brained, my answer showed I’m right brained but has a tendency at times to be left brained. In fact, before going to college, my aptitude test showed almost the same scores in all subject areas so I had difficulty (and confusion) which specific field I would undertake. I am now a Ph D.

  • hahah it goes both ways for me.

  • ????

i must be uber-left-brained then, because i can’t see it going clockwise at ALL!

  • I can see it going both ways, but it took me a lot longer to see it going counter-clockwise.

  • oh wow. i can change her directions… which makes sense. im ambidextrous. i can write with both hands backwards and fowards or at the same time going in opposite directions. i didnt even know i could do it until i got bored during class one time in high school and started messing around.

    thats awesome though.

  • Counter-clockwise. Which is weird b/c i’m left-handed…shouldn’t i be right-brained?

  • clockwise. this is very interesting!

  • i love this effect!!!

  • I can’t possibly see how anyone can see this counter-clockwise.  I must be right-brained.  No wonder I hate being an engineer…

  • I can switch it. I guess I’m ambidextrous. I think that a good thing, too :)

  • clockwise.  But I test “whole-brained, favoring right.”

  • When I first came to this page I saw her spinning in a clockwise fashion. And guess what I am right-handed and I prefer the right side of my body. But then I started to scroll down the page, then all of a sudden I saw her spinning in counter clockwise. I had to concentrate on her feet (thanks to math music me). After a few seconds I saw her spin back to clockwise direction. Never would have thought I was ambidextrous.

  • I’ve been staring at it for so long and I can’t believe that there’re others who can see her rotating clockwise! O.O”

  • SHE IS GOING CLOCKEWISE

  • seeing it both ways means you’re a genius!

    which i can

  • sometimes you can get her head going one way and her body going the other

  •  Wow…That’s really cool !

  • All I see is Clockwise. How on earth does someone see it as counterclockwise, I cannot fathom

  • yeah i saw this a couple weeks ago… i can now make her sawy from side to side…

  • Totally right brained.

  • Hm. interesting…

  • I see both!

I saw clock-wise at first, then after a while it switched and I saw counter-clockwise.  I thought it was some sort of trick, so I called my dad over (who’s very left-brained) and asked him what he saw; he saw her rotating clockwise, while I saw her rotating counter-clockwise.  Weird!

  • Okay she is going back and forth!!! Guess im Special cuz she kept on Switching backing and forth, Clockwise to counter clockwise.

  • i’m right brained, but i can reverse her if i look past her, like look at something else on the page and see her in my peripheral
    weird.

  • Started out Clockwise but then I made it go Counter..and then back again to clockwise..

    Weird.

  • what?? it’s turning?

  • It turned clockwise for the longest time. But now I can look at it and make turn the Counter clockwise or just pivot at will. This is cool.

  • she was going clockwise, then for like 2 seconds she went counter. now shes going clockwise again.

    thats pretty cool though…

  • It changed. This test is broken.

  • i kinda have a feeling that the picture is just timed to change direction at a certain time…

  • i think it depends on which way her head is tilting.. when her head is tilting to the left it looks counter clockwise. when its tilting to the right its clockwise.

but it was very entertaining :) thanks

  • i can only see clock wise. unless i completely look away from the screen and use my periphals. but while looking straight at it i could only see clock wise. the interesting thing is that i i know for a fact im right brained because in left handed and very bad at math.

  • It may just be me ,but I think she stops and changes direction??????????

  • She obviously stops and changes direction,,,doesn’t she ?

  • I think that I must be really right-brained …

  • yes this is just a joke. i watched her stop and change direction several times and i was not concentrating on her changing, it was just timed to do that.

  • i see it go both ways……. haha

  • Didn’t somebody else post a similar inquiry?  On that one it was strange, at first when I looked at the woman spinning, it was going clockwise, then later it went counterclockwise for me on that one.  On this one, she is only appearing to go clockwise as I see it.  So, based on that result- I should be predominately right brained.

  • she switches. if you look she changes feet and arms too. sometimes her left leg is up, and sometimes it’s her right one. it’s a trick.

  • At first I was only able to see her spinning clock-wise.

Then I figured if I stared at her outer foot and focus when it crossed the other foot, I could make it switch.

What I do is tell myself that instead of seeing the foot crossing IN FRONT OF the other, I’m seeing it cross BEHIND IT, then it reverses.  I do that again and it’s back to going clock-wise.

    Very cool.

  • She goes both ways you just have to look at it long enough.

  • for the life of me i can’t see how anyone would think she’s going clockwise… and i’ve been staring at her for a very long time.  icccccccccck ok back to work, thanks for the diversion

    (that’s pretty interesting though, as a left-hander i’m always told i must be right-brained)

  • heheh she was turnin clockwise on me first, but when i look at the shadow nd see that the foot could also be turnin infront or behind or whatever, it can change… =) freakstuff.
     =)

  • I dont think its timed to change because I stood behind my friend and watched it with her and I saw it change while she still saw it going the same direction. Its an illusion so I’m pretty sure you can get it to change direction using your focus.

  • I thought that the woman was definitely going clockwise and I couldn’t even see how it could be construed otherwise, so I showed it to my roommate, and of course SHE saw counter-clockwise! Trippy. But I’m happy to be right-brained!

  • And I’m right-handed!

  • my mom and I said she’s going clockwise, but my dad said she’s going counter clockwise. haha! ^^;

  • Mostly clockwise, but I got her to reverse.  But then I blinked and she went back to clockwise.  Right brained with a slight influence of left?

  • she HAS to be going clockwise. if i try to make her go the other way, the left side of my brain hurts.

  • i can get it to switch back and forth becuz i found out the secret.

  • I went and read the article, I think I have an ambidextrous mind.

  • She gyrates one way then the other switching spontaneously for no apparent reason so… now I’m fascinated… what does it really mean I wonder so I resolve to follow your link and see where it leads. I just love a mystery quest <3

  • Konrado, I agree. It seems like most people see this thing clockwise or can make her switch, but I think most people are supposed to be predominantly “left brained”.

  • umm.. I blink, and she reverses. is that normal? I did start out right brained though.

  • wow tat is soo cool!!

  • First I saw it go counter-clockwise, then I looked away at the other comments, when I looked at her again she started to go clockwise, then I looked down at her shadow and she immediately began spinning counter clockwise again. This is really cool. Right brained people are good at math and science and left brained people are better at English and History….I am horrible at Math, but good in English, History and Science….so perhaps the reason I see the clockwise spin has to do with the fact that I am good at sciences, and the reason I am able to transition quickly back to counter clockwise has to do with my english and history understanding.

  • but.. im RIGHT handed… so isnt that supposed to mean i’m left brained?!
    and yet its rotating clockwise!

    jess

  • i must be really right-brained because i don’t see how she could possibly be going counter-clockwise.. haha

  • at first it was clockwise.. and i was like.. people who are saying counterclockwise is lying!

but i saw both @ the end.. i crossed my eyes, and i saw it counterclockwise :/

  • she def switches directions

  • i saw this on someone else’s site, and it’s quite honestly, a trick. I suppose that’s the true test for your brain…The image switches every few minutes, or if you refresh the page. Or even by staring at it you can tell it’s switching.

  • same for me, amirissa.

  • looks like clockwise to me

  • Wow all I can see is clockwise. I can’t make it go counter-clockwise!

    Darn.

  • I can make her go both ways.

    Heh heh…

  • shes performing an outside turn on her left leg

  • Ahhhh!!!!   I can see both!  Freaky!  I must be a genius!

  • I saw this at a forum, it spins both ways for me

  • umm… i don’t think this is an indicator of whether or not a person is left/right-brained.  like – AT ALL.

  • Well, I already knew I was right-brained, but I can get her to switch directions. It’s all about watching her feet.

  • Counterclockwise? is it right?

  • shes totally rotating counter-clockwise! and no matter how much i try…i can’t see her change direction. lol…i’ve known for a long time that i am VERY left-brained. i the right side probably doesnt even function….thats how left brained i am.

  • if you are in the room with someone else it works better to see the actual image change and not your brain… best way to “see her switch” is to make a counter-clockwise circle with your hand while watching… she’ll switch rotation near on the same time you roommate says she does.  pretty cool thou.  working for anyone else?

  • Watch the thing for about five minutes. It’ll click like your computer’s running slow, and suddenly she’ll be spinning counter-clockwise. I’ve watched it happen three times now, because I could tell there was something wrong with it…

  • woah.. weird. it switched on me and now i can’t switch back

  • OMG, if you look for about 2 min, and try looking differently, i saw her legs just swaying then counterclockwise, and it’;s kinda hard to make it clockwise…. but i can -ish

  • That is so cool and I made her go in both directions.

  • I can’t make her go counter clock-wise….

  • Oh, it changes.  Pfft

  • it goes both ways cause when i look at it its counter clock wise but then she goes clock wise so my brains in the middle ? orr wut

  • Scroll past it and then back up to it and she changes direction. At least, it did for me.

  • i dont get this… mine keeps changing from counter to clockwise… like every few seconds…i dont get it..

  • interesting…she rotates the other way after I look at something else in the house…kewl!

  • This is a trick!  I’ve been watching it a long time.  Take notice of which arm she has up.  Keep watching.  Suddenly, the other arm will be the one that’s up.  I’ve watched her switch back and forth several times now.

  • turns more counter-clockwise then clockwise for me. but she turning the same way……. OMG its so freaky.

  • i am so a right brain! right brains rule!!

  • I know at first it was going counter-clockwise, then it switched
on me! I can`t make it do it again, though. xD

  • I see both counter and clockwise. But she never stops.

  • it obviously just switches directions on its own. It has nothing to with being left or right brained. If I scroll up or down it will change direcitions.

  • I can see it both ways. It seems to change frequently and I can usually focus and change it.
I was ambidextrious when I was younger. It took me a few years to stick to my right hand. Maybe that’s why?

  • I did that SimilarMinds thing, and it said I’m Left-dominant by at least 20% (I answered to the best of my ability and self-knowledge), but the girl continues to spin clockwise, implying I’m Right-dominant.  Maybe I don’t know myself as well as I think I do.  But what does a 40-question test tell one about oneself, really?  Or a rotating girl-shadow?

  • I took a Psychology class at the University of Maryland College Park and my professor, Kevin Murname, said that there really is no such thing as a right or left brained person.  Actually, we use our right and left brain simultaneously.  Right now you are using both sides of your brain to read my text.  The right side interperates the letters as figures that you can recognize easily.  The left side analyzes those figures for meaning.  Both sides are needed for information see?  Don’t believe me?  My source is Psychology: Themes and Variations by Wayne Weiten, a University of Las Vegas Nevada professor.  Check it out!

  • Puck it!  Wish I could change direction with that much ease …am getting dizzy just watching {*_*}

  • By the way that is Psychology: Themes And Variations by Wayne Weiten 7th edition on Brain Lateralization.

  • Clockwise, i really can’t see it going counter!
    So strange!

  • imagine her rotating 360 degrees starting when her foot is pointing towards you… that being 0 degrees. then she turns 90 to the one side. and then another 90 to equal 180, where she is pointing away from you. the first 90 is the exact same as the second 90, if you were to play it backwards you would see her rotate the same way.

i have noticed a small discrepancy, if she is rotating counter clock wise, the frames where her foot is closest to you seem to be skipped. if she spins clockwise then when her foot is furtherest away from you, or pointing backwards, it skips those frames. they go by faster. her foot seems to jump from one side to the other.

try alternating eyes, but not too slowly
it may have to do with which eye is dominant.
but does left and right brain have en effect on which eye is your dominant one?

  • I saw this a couple weeks ago, and it kept switching for me… eventually, I figured out how to make it switch.

  • blaaah I can’t seem to see it any other way than clockwise.  Be more efficient brain!

  • except when she changes legs then i’m right brained?

  • According to some souces this is actually just a fun optical illusion – not an indicator of right or left brain dominance.

  • After watching it for a long time, I’ve 100% determined that it’s a trick and it doesn’t really work.

Look at her arms. Look at whichever one is held out behind her and extended. If you watch long enough, the extended arm suddenly switches, and then she suddenly seems to be spinning the other direction.

I would trust this if it was in a textbook on paper, which cannot move/change. However, it is simply an internet animated graphic that is timed to switch the extended arm, thus making it appear to switch between clockwise/counter clockwise. The extended arm actually DOES switch; it’s not part of the illusion. It’s what creates the illusion.

    A clever scam indeed.

Some other people test my hypothesis and see it for yourself; and correct me if I’m wrong.

  • clockwise… whoo hoo !!

  • aughh maybe I’m wrong after looking at it for a long time again it kept switching directions like every 2-3 seconds.

  • thats cool, i can switch it… i have to look away to do it though, i cant switch it while looking at it… crazy…

originally came off as clock-wise, so i guess i am dominately right brained

    quite entertaining i must say

  • I’ve been staring at it for so long. My head hurts @.@. I can turn it both ways =D.

  • what does it mean if you are right brained??? i used to know, but i cant remember?

  • It’s odd how quickly this is spreading across the internet. I’ve seen out on several xangas over the last few weeks.

  • *”it on”, not “out”

  • When I watch her directly, she appears to be moving clockwise and only when I’m not looking at her directly and I’m seeing her in my peripheral vision, does she appear to go counterclockwise. So, there’s definitely gotta be something to this. It’s just another illusion or something.

  • It all has to do with the position of the stationary foot.  it only does a 180 rotation, not a fully 360.

  • she reversed. i’m positive about that!!

  • it made me fall asleep, i saw her rotate both ways, though.

  • So at first I saw clockwise and I was like, no way can she be going the other way..I looked at it really hard then all the sudden, *pop* it was going the other way!

    Crazy.

  • i get confused too long that i start to see her rotating at both directions every 2 seconds.. i guess i’m ambidex then.. the confused type of brain. haha!

  • She started out counter-clockwise, but with a little concentration she started moving clock-wise.

  • wow!  i can only see the clockwise

    where’s the counter?

  • both..but more anti-clockwise

  • I see clockwise

  • Awesome! I saw counterclockwise, then clockwise, then I made her switch back and forth. Or rather, made my perception switch her back and forth.

  • It’s bull – i watched it practically stop and then reverse.

  • Clockwise… How strange.

  • it takes awhile but i can get it to go either way

  • Just as a proof that this is not a trick, my adult son & I were looking at it at the same time.  He perceived it as going the opposite direction that I did!  I have had it “switch” several times.

    Dee

  • “math music me” is correct, at first I couldn’t figure it out, but now I can control it pretty easy. I found the easiest way is if its going clockwise, look at the shadow of the foot, if its going counter clockwise, look the at the foot. at least it works for me

  • every time i look away and look back, she’s changed direction.

  • clockwise in the perspective of the light, counterclockwise according to the shadow

I’d much rather not delude myself, thank you very much.

  • watch her foot. if you do you can see it either way.

  • i can’t make it go clockwise. >.<

  • i believe i am right brained. she looks to continue in a clockwise turn.

  • I can see both also, first ccw then cw.

Now I wish they turn on the light so I can see more :)

  • she reverses…lol

  •  really right brained I gues…

  • strange
    i always thought i was left brain-sided
    but clock wise
i figured out i can turn her by putting my finger parallel to her and swirling it in w.e. directing
it pretty cool, that way, you can switch with a twirl of a finger :)

  • i looked at this forever and couldnt possibly believe that she was going anyway BUTclock wise. ii kept looking away and looking back . but then i thought about my self turning counter clockwise. and then she started moving counterwise.
i got scared for a sec.
    but i mostly see clockwise!
    whats this mean?

  • so im left brained? is that the creative one or the analytical one?

  • So I found a trick to making her reverse.  Stare at the reflection of her feet.  If you keep following her body, you’ll be trapped in whatever spin you started with, but if you just watch the tips of her toes, you can re-orient yourself more easily.

    Thank you and take care.

    :)

  • omfg i said clockwise first

then i took my eyes off of her for 1 sec looked back up and she went counterclockwise

    i think i’m fucked up

  • scam scam scam

  • this is simply an optical illusion. can’t get her to turn counter clockwise? try simply looking at her shadow.
i doubt this has anything to do with right brain vs left brain

  • first it was counter-clockwise, and the (she) switched and it was clockwise…wild…

  • FUCK THIS SHIT!!!!

  • it goes right…occasionally stops but thats about it

  • that’s so awesome! mine keeps changing from counter to clockwise to counter to clockwise!

  • Whoever created this made it so that she switches directions every once in a while. If you stare at it for a minute or two, you can see her feet go in the opposite direction, so this thing doesn’t work, i.e., it is a fake.

  • ohs. nevermind. It’s an optical illusion. haha.

  • i posted the same thing on my blog…i guess it was good enough to get me featured. oh well..

  • i mean NOT good enough.

  • I just cannot see how she’s spinning counter-clockwise…

  • Right brained.

Looked again 5 seconds later and she was going the opposite way, counter-clockwise.

Shook my head and said, “SWITCH IT BACK, SWITCH IT BACK!”

I’m now trying to switch it back to the clockwise direction. Can’t. D:

  • um, I saw both. First it was clockwise, then I scrolled down a bit, then it went counterclockwise…

    wierd.

  • ahh. this is funny lol. if you cut the pic to the bottom half (just her legs with no hands or anything) it’s easier to see her switch directions.

  • all i can see is clockwise…

  • right

  • from my intuition concerning optics, the dancer can ONLY be spinning in a counter-clockwise direction. if you look at the shadow of the dancer’s ankle that she pivots on, you can see that the light source is eminating behind her. since the observer’s viewpoint is above the horrizontal “plane” that she dances on, the extended foot creates a shadow that sweeps BEHIND the dancer and the shadow cast in front of her is not shown because the picture frame is cropped. when i use the term “behind,” i mean it is away from the observer. in addition, notice that the extended foot’s shadow sweeps from right to left; thus, she can only be rotating counter-clockwise with her right leg as the axis.

observers who contend that the dancer is rotating clockwise on her left leg can argue that the image cast on the horizontal plane is a mirror reflection, not a shadow. however, you lose track of the reflection when the extended foot sweeps away from the observer, while the refection and extended foot converges when it sweeps in front. this is physically impossible if the horizontal plane serves as a mirror. if the reflected image of extended foot is shown when it approaches the observer, then it should also appear when it is reflected from behind the dancer. the reflection may not show if the dancer is greatly tilted towards the observer – making her extended foot come closer to the surface when it casts a reflection, but this is likely not the case. thus, the dancer can only be shown rotating in a counter-clockwise direction.

  • i got both, i was like ” OMFG IT CHANGED” and then i blinked and it changed AGAIN.
    freaky shit man, freakyyyy.

  • first clockwise…then counterclockwise…now clockwise again…and i wish i had her body!

  • hmm i must be a perv cuz i can’t seem to concentrate on the rotation cuz of the nipples on the model… why does this particular CG model have to have nipples??  christ…

anyways, clockwise… i tried but no way is she turning counter clockwise for me.

  • I saw both within a blink = )

Btw, thanks for your little bit on the mix of LOLCats and Postsecrets. From that, I looked up Post Secrets & found out the creator of the idea is from my area. Since then, I have also sent him a postcard & slipped one into his book at the bookstore.

  • I must be more right brained inclined. But have a bit of left brainness in me. I naturally see her going clockwise. If I want to turn it anti, it takes me alot more effort than to go from anti clockwise to clockwise. Whenever I relax, its back to clockwise.

Pretty cool – cause I definitely fit that profile.

  • agh.  She keeps flipping.

    Very cool!

  • wow, nice one here.

    Both. :D

  • The first time I saw this, not here, it was going clockwise (right-brained). The next time I opened it, which was here, it was going counterclockwise (left-brained). However, I’ve figured out how to get her to change direction.

  • Clockwise…clockwise…still clockwise…clockwise…still…

    Still clockwise…still…still…

  • At first, I could only see clockwise….but now I can see both.  I can actually make her change directions.

  • I guess this makes me ambidextrous- brained since I can see both?

  • i can see both…

  • wow — i can see her go counter-clockwise too!

  • It’s a story of mine. I wear the links of london in my whole life. No one knows why I love so much the ring. I also don’t know why. We even don’t know what his name is and how old he is and where he come and went. It really likes a ridiculous story. But I have a proof that is the links of london jewellery ring. It’s neither a dream nor a girl’s imagination.
I don’t know if you can see this article, if you can remember the period happiness, I hope you can have a happy life.
