Please help us test our Webcam Video Recorder!
Right now, videoblogging requires a lot of work: you have to record a video, grab the video file, and then upload it to the Xanga servers. So we thought we’d simplify it – just click a Record button, and you’re vlogging off your webcam right away!
You can’t beat this video recorder for fast vlogging! But a word of warning: Chris and Mikey built this for convenience, not video quality. The quality of your video will depend on your internet connection. If you’re on wifi, it won’t be as sweet as it’d be on broadband. And if you’re looking for sheer quality, uploading is still the way to go.
Ok that’s about it. If you have a webcam, can you help us test our new webcam recorder?
Please report any issues in our comments!

nice.
omg omg omg Ill do it!
I tried it, and it seemed to be working while recording, but it eventually crashed my browser shortly after I hit ‘stop.’
This is with Safari and my MacBook’s built-in video. I had to change the video settings to USB-based device.
I think the crash came about for the same reason Xanga crashes Safari when uploading photos (it looks like the same title/tags form), so the video part would probably work otherwise.
Neeto toy.
Pretty neat. Quality pretty much sucked but hey, saves a lot of trouble. It’s working on uploading right now. Guess you can see if it worked by checking my videos.
i think you mean broadband and dial-up.
wi-fi is just a form of connecting to the net. broadband covers various speeds (cable, dsl, etc.)
but i could be wrong!
cool!!
ooooh, might try this one day since I’ve already exploited the ‘radio/audio blogging’ features. haha
Xanga.. OWN!
Just the quality… my webcam is much better than what this displays.
all i need is a webcam!
im such a vN00b!!!!!!1!
Gave it a try, works well (ff, winXp). My video was over a minute, waiting to see the result now.
I think the advanced options should not be hidden.
I have a problem accessing my videos page.
I don’t have a webcam but it looks sweet!
that’s pretty nifty, i like.
How cool is that… Its like one day xanga read my mind… and came up with all these great ideas.
I jest…
I shall have to V-blog and lose my virginity… as pure as I am…
I must do them in the morning, first thing, drewl and all.
You inspire me
O.K. – I tried sending 3 videos at 4:30 this morning. Looked pretty scary but this (I think) is an excellent idea.I’m a guy, I type with 2 fingers. I would definitely like making a video journal (I will keep it rated PG, maybe).
Background picture:
Pretty phallic, very equivocal.
Kewl guy this Masi Oka huh?
Let me apologize in advance for this comment having nothing to do with your topic…:)
What’s that whole star/voting thing about at the top of the comment box? It doesn’t show up on the weblog page unless you’re leaving a comment…is there someone monitoring the “votes” to award a prize for Blog of the Year? I simply have to know…it’s been robbing me of sleep. (Well, not really, but I am curious.)
I love the idea, but my video quality was poorer than expected. The video was so choppy that it looked like the video and audio wasn’t in sync. It seemed unusable for video blogging as it is. I am using the built-in camera on my MacBook with a cable internet connection (albeit a slower than normal cable connection). The iSight usually gives much better quality so maybe it’s just the connection speed.
no web cam : (
Cool. I will try it w my mac iSight.
i tried it with iSight – it worked for the first three or four times..then didn’t work anymore. when i cliked on submit, it failed to respond. Reset is also not working properly.
I have no trouble recording, but when I hit “submit” and try to upload, it freezes everytime.
