Law & Order
In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.
My favorite Detectives in Law & Order shows, in order:
- Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson (I can’t choose between them)
- Lennie Briscoe (I still can’t believe he’s dead)
- John Munch (love the cynicism) and Ice-T (aka Detective Tutuola). I love how how they bicker all the time…
- Mike Logan (back when he worked with Lennie – I don’t like him on Criminal Intent)
- Anita Van Buren (aka Lieu) – I didn’t like her at first, but she grew on me.
My favorite DA’s:
- Adam Schiff (love the bitter asides)
- Nora Lewin (she had good judgment)
- Arthur Branch (my least favorite – I couldn’t believe it when he deported that illegal Hispanic immigrant who testified for him)
My favorite Prosecutors:
- Jack McCoy (I love how ruthless he is. Plus his closings are so over the top, it’s awesome)
- Abbie Carmichael (aka Angie Harmon. She was the best ADA ever).
- Serena Southerlyn (She was a solid prosecutor. Her claim to fame: not being annoying, unlike most of the ADA’s on the show)
- Alexandra Cabot (I never loved her but then when I got my marriage license at City Hall, I stood in line behind Stephanie March and Bobby Flay).
My least favorites (a consolidated list):
- Paul Robinette and Ben Stone – Boring
- Detective Eames – She’s the sidekick to Detective Goren on Criminal Intent. But did you know she’s the senior detective, while he’s the junior one? Neither did I… and I don’t care either. Still boring
- Claire Kincaid – She was ok on Law & Order, but she’s so annoying on Crossing Jordan that it’s ruined her old episodes for me. On the plus side: she did date Jack McCoy.

John munch is the man. I love how point of fact he is. I also really liked lennie briscoe… How many ex wifes’s did that guy have anyway? Jack mccoy is def my favorite prosecuter. I am so in shock to see that he is not out there doing movies and making tons of money. He really is one of the best actors in the business.

Jerry Orbach made the show for me. He was king.
Abbie Carmichael was the best prosecuter.
Sam Waterston can do no wrong.
i liked Jill Hennessy on “crossing jordan” more than when she was on L&O.
i thought serena was way annoying… she was so “one note” imo.
paul robinette’s character was boring on L&O – but the actor rocked it when he guested on the tv show “firefly”
i read, in real life, Kathryn Erbe was upset because her character ended up being smaller than Vincent D’Onfrio’s — and then he got ill, and couldn’t make half the shows – and that further cut Katherine’s lines on the show.
I can’t bring myself to watch the more recent episodes…

Jerry Orbach and Sam Waterston were/are the coolest, imo.

great post!…we love watching SVU…the original is good too…Criminal Intent though, not so much…
I can’t make myself watch L&O – there’s just too much of it.
I love Law and Order ALL of them. In fact except for House, Monk, and Psych that is pretty much all I watch. I used to watch all sorts of shows but putting kids in the bath and to bed got in the way. Law and Order is always on either USA, or TNT so I can always find an episode to watch. I have a HUGE ass crush Det Stabler. I like CI too but I think it is because I really like Vincent D’Onfrio’s, I don’t mind the female charecter at all and I love Mr. Big on there (SITC charecter name).
Law and Order SVU is my favorite.

i like to watch but i’ve never picked apart the characters. when i was laid up on bed rest for six months my husband bought me all the season box sets he could find.

To be honest I have only seen Law and Order: SVU. I really love the entire team/cast of that series if I had to choose one character I think I would choose Munch.
I don’t watch much TV, so I can’t really play along.
chris noth and george dzundza, the original detective duo, will always go down as my favorites, if only because at that time, the show was so different from anything on tv. logan and briscoe were great too, and i loved how the first handful episodes actually depicted their bristly early interactions. after that, tho, the rotating lineup lost it for me.
Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson rocked. MKunch and Tutuola were pretty awesome too. But then I got caught up in Bones and House. -.-”

Munch and Tutuola together have an interesting chemistry which makes them an amazing duo on the show. But I didn’t like Munch so much on Homicide, Life on the Street (I think that’s the name of the show on which his character originated. My apologies if I’m wrong).
My all time favorite L&O character is Det. Briscoe. Besides the fact that Jerry Orbach was one of the best (and most underrated) actors to ever exist, Briscoe is an unbelievably deeply developed character who strikes a chord with almost everybody.
i love law and order so it is kinda hard for me to pick but i would have to say that my favorites would be Elliott and Olivia.

I love all the originals: Chris Noth and George Dzundza, Adam Schiff, Cragen, and yes, especially Ben Stone and Robinette. I looooove how smart-alecky and condescending Stone is when he cross-examines. Generally their casting has been good, but I’m tired of all the former model-looking assistants to McCoy. Come on.
Definitely Jack McCoy, although Sam Watterson was a moron on celebrity Jeopardy.
Ok i love Goren. i like the fact that he’s a little off. but they had to put him with her because someone like him wouldn’t have worked.

If I didnt have one antenna that needs to be turned towards Philly to get reception after every wind that blows thru here,sitting on top of a steep roof …I would watch Law and Order and Boston Legal. But I have that very antenna,no reception and a step ladder if I am desperate.
Olivia and Elliot are definitely my favorites; I enjoy McCoy’s agressiveness, too, but sometimes he goes over the edge…

I LOVE ELLIOT AND OLIVIA. I also LOVE GOREN. I started watched L&O:SVU about a year or so ago and tried to catch up on all of them…and I just started CI a few months back. I love Goren. The new episodes, I have to admit, I skip the ones where Goren and Eames aren’t on it.

The BXU can make short work of most people who want to stifle free speech on-line… unless they got big bazillion dollar funding by some traitorous groups against the US Constitution…. I been getting some comments and other messages from people who are wondering about that Federal ruling. Is it possible that you could make some changes that would permit adults to express themselves freely due to the new ruling? There are ways of keeping kids in check of what they see in Xanga without clamping on the adults who pay for this site. But I know that would cause the powers that be to put themselves in a bad position to justify their existance and turn around threaten to hit people in their wallets… Can’t accuse me of not being blunt. But at least we don’t live in China.
We certainly know what you gone through to defend free speech on-line ( great cost from what I hear), so if you can send a private message and let us know of your input on this matter is. We will listen.

Jack McCoy – by far. Every time I watch Law & Order and hear the *ddon doon , it reminds me of my friends’ wedding. They had a video montage of Law & Order beginning credits done with their pictures and friends…HAHA.
I absolutely LOVE Olivia and Elliot, but then SVU is my favorite. Ice-T comes in as a close second… As far as prosecuter Jack McCoy is my favorite with Alex as second, I was so sad when she left
