WEBLOG TAG CLOUDS
We’ve been meaning to add a tag cloud to the weblogs frontpage (of
course, if you’re not using tags… it won’t appear!). Check out this snapshot of Mary’s site to see how
the tags vary in size, depending on which ones are being used the
most.

Um is there a way to not have the cloud? I use tags occasionally — not enough to need a whole module for it.

Why can we not chooses what size we want our video to be?
I want a smaller sized video for my blog as I record them in a smaller size…But xanga stretches them into a larger distorted window.
But there are no options like with our other images.
Is this possible?

That’s pretty cool. I guess I’ll start using some tags tomorrow!
I like the tag cloud on the front page. It would be nice if the default were my top used tags, with a “see all tags” link. Right now, I only will see the first dozen or so tags, alphabetically, even if they happen to be the least used tags.
Another feature I would REALLY like, now with the tagging available, would be a search option to search just my entries. That way, I could search through my old entries to see what ones need specfic tags… Or perhaps a way to have the words of each entry be listed as a possible tag, and some sort of tool to go through the possible tags and mark yes or no? Basically, what I am wanting to do is what others are wanting to do – tag the old entries. But I have hundreds of older entries, so having some way to get some of the common tags generated for me would be great. Obviously, words like and, or, the and so forth wouldn’t be proposed tag words.

you guys need to figure out a way to protect xanga photoblogs….people dont realize that just because theyre protected their pictures arent….a lot of moms are going protected to protect their children but dont know that their pictures they upload in photoblog can be seen by everyone…also ya’ll need to shutdown this sick freaking site suck0_the_clown

You need to shut down this site IMMEDIATELY: http://www.xanga.com/the_truth_about_carol It has been flagged MULTIPLE times and it has been over a week and yet you guys do nothing. It is a hate site, with zero truth to it and it is interfering with a police investigation. An actual POLICE OFFICER has flagged it and you have done jack shit. Also, there is a malicious impersonation on that site where as a screen name appears in a “fake IM conversation” littlekraut09 did not ever say any of those things and again, you are interfering with a police investigation and you need to delete that site right now.
[completely unrelated] Hey, I had an idea for Boost I thought I’d share. I think we should be able to Boost things from the “Top Results” page. This is how Digg works. If I see a story I like on the main page of Digg.com, I can still digg it or bury it. I don’t have to go to “New Stories” (Xanga’s version of “Boost Central”) to do so. This allows for more activity, in my opinion. Also, I noticed Boost is running more smoothly now (and faster). It’s definitely miles from where it started. Peace. Pete.

I wanted to post an entry just now and I clicked on New Weblog Entry and I saw this weird stuff. Instead of seeing the traditional box I saw links and stuff, Is there any way I could fix that?

yea i think they do, because i almost took my class there (they hold classes there on tues), but i had a conflict with a pilates class, so instead im taking it up on the upper west side. next winter, i think i’ll try to stick to the 8th ave one tho, bc its just so much closer for me. so thats where ur guys’ offices are. cool!

what feels like the best community online for blogging is becoming a stagnant pond with no fresh inlets and outlets…some of these new features are great..I have spent $75 this year on you guys and closed out my sites each one…then got this free version I have now…
in some ways, this is gaining the power of a personal bulletin board where you can have a large range of controls over the entrance and exits of your own blog..but to the point that the mass opinion of the sheeple and every wanker can collectively ostracize and metaphorically publicly stone one person is going to far, and too far backwards…I still enjoy xanga overall..when I first joined, it was an amazingly freer place than it is now…the walls are closing in and there are thought police almost trying to plug a wire in somewhere…oddly, this is your whole canvass altogether, with and for that, you are the owners…we just have blankets spread out on your lawn and have to follow the dress code…I get it…just the volume level knob feels like it is twisting off…

I am writing because I am a frequent reader of EminemsRevenge/NYCJoyce. I don’t know if it is true that xanga is intentionally making his site difficult to access (sometimes only showing the header, and sometimes requiring a click of the “comment box not working”. But of course I am concerned about free-speech issues, especially since I have been subscribed to, and exchange comments regularly with EminemsRevenge/ NYCJoyce. I’m hoping to hear confirmation if it is just that the header on EminemsRevenge is too busy that sometimes the rest of the site is not loading, or if it is for another reason.
Please understand that for me personally, I couldn’t be happier with Xanga, and I fully support Xanga as I have come to know it. But I am questioning for EminemsRevenge, because I also care about his site, and any possibility of free speech issues, so I would like to know about why there is difficulty accessing his site.

How about an easy way to get to system-wide tag clouds? For instance, that same box on the http://www.xanga.com main page.
Also, a way to pick tags already in use would be great. System-wide and/or per-user.
More tag thoughts:
Say you click on the tag, and it shows you a list of entries with that tag. You notice one that’s mis-tagged. You click through to the article with the hopes of changing the tag. But how do you edit the article from there, even just to change the tag? Answer: You can’t.
I must be stupid because I still can’t figure out what tags are and what they do…..
The front page xanga tag cloud is neat – if you only have a few tags. But if you have a lot of tags, it only shows the first few, alphabetically. It would be more useful if it showed the top 20 or whatever number you (or the user) specified. Perhaps with the user-specified number implemented, a user could set it to 0 if they didn’t want to display the cloud.
How do we use this with the RSS feed (like wordpress, xanga, bloglines, etc)? I tried putting /tags/something both before and after /rss in the feed url, and both gave page not found errors.
