INTRODUCING FLAGGING
We're launching our new flagging system, so Xangans can help us keep
the community safer for everyone. See the flag link at the top of each
page? (It's next to those little "xanga - username - signout" links.)
You can read more about our 12 flags here. We're adding two measures that should minimize the impact of any pranks or personal vendettas:
- The flags are just to identify and prioritize pages... nothing will happen without human review.
- There's also a built-in feedback mechanism, so if you flag pages inaccurately then your flags will count for less.
Finally, I'd like to address some concerns around the potential for
censorship. We believe very strongly in the concept of freedom of
speech. Along these lines, I'd like to announce an upcoming
feature that will allow you to self-rate your own content.
This should help preserve our collective freedom to blog about what's
on our minds. I'll post more on that later this week when we
launch the ratings system. Please give us some time to work out the kinks in both flagging and
ratings. Hopefully together, we can work to make Xanga better
than ever.

Thank you Big Brother for the annoucement =p
cool
Coolness
Sweet!
i am glad.
6TH!
i like!
Looks like this is going to be quite useful.
Awesome. LOL.... I found the flags were up (and used them) before you announced them....
I hope this gets rid of all the porn on xanga....
would be nice if you can "mark" someone's post as a favorite or something?.. and then you can have a bunch of favs.. and refer back to them? or is that too stalkerish?
Let's see if this even works and taken seriously...by Xanga. Be interesting to see how many sites that should be taken down, are indeed taken down... Let's see some stats?
I see.
Hope it works.
sounds good to me...
whee
This sounds a bit complicated, but reasonable.
Dan
looks good. weee
how do you flag if someone hides the flag link.... -_-;
oops i flagged my own xanga LOL
Thank you for listening - I feel better about the approach and am supportive.
What about people who have "special" layouts and they therefore dont have the "flag" link there?
oopy, I flagged my own xanga before I know what it does...
good job!! maybe now people will shut up
how can you tell if someone's site has been flagged? or if your site is flagged?
You still havent said whether someone will know if they have been flagged...and if they will be given the opportunity to go protected or private before being shut down.
some of the blogs that need flagging have those fancy layouts though, so you can't find the flag button.
great idea~
and will you give us statistics of how many blogs were shut down? of each type and stuff so we know on what scale this is at?
What is 'too much personal info' supposed to mean?
flags won't work on pages with custom xanga skins
.
And yeah, even if they don't have it, they can remove it easily with JS.
works for me... I like it
liking the self rating idea, excellent
just more features i wont use....
woohoo!
I don't see myself using this feature.
I'm kind of on the same boat NotJustAnotherBabyMomma. What exactly will happen to a flagged Xangan, if it's confirmed that they are breaking the rules?
erm, the one-touch flag system with no 'are you sure' warning seems a little... accident-prone? Are you going to spend a week ignoring flags while everyone goes 'I wonder what this button does?'
I do understand what you're trying to do. I don't however, see any kind of 'censorship by public acclamation' system working. Where I work, we have a rating system. We've already had one disagreement about whether some particular content should have been rated R or NC17 - two quite different things, and I'm not sure where your definition of 'adult content' fits with that. Fortunately, WE have excellent definitions that we could point the 'concerned' user at so she could see that the content was appropriately rated. You don't. We would have had a particular group running round 'flagging' everything that wasn't puppies and kittens and rainbow smurfs as 'adult content'. So will you. That's just human nature.
However. If you need more warm bodies to review the thousands and thousands of flaggings you're going to get...
l bet your are Korean or not!
i flagged my own account before i saw the announcement =.=
plz comment on me !! l have to know !!!
looks like you are going to great lengths to protect our blogs as well as those that would
try to flag those that are not doing anything wrong....
Keep up the great work guys.....
I know it can get hard sometimes, and we may not always agree, but you are really striving to make xanga a safer and more
enjoyable for us all!
God bless you all,
Tina
bad idea. how do you know something like "kill yourself?" isn't just a joke. Is xanga going to be screening for sarcasm or are we going to be assuming that everything someone posts on their blog is honest. because nothing I post in my blog is sincere.
yeah, there's a lot of messed up stuff on xanga, like encouraging people to have eating disorders, but "kill yourself" in my circle of friends is just another meaningless phrase. why should we be punished just becuase someone doesn't get our joke?
at the very least, we should be alerted if we've been flagged, and our account is going to be deleted/suspended or whatever so that we have a chance to defend ourselves.
Watch the vigilante groups run, with whips and nooses!!!!
What happens if we flag someone by accident before we're used to the system? There should be a confirmation screen to cut down on accidental/unintended flaggings.
Great!!!
Well... Good luck with this.
i still think this feature sucks.....with this feature you guys are losing more traffic to your site. i remember when xanga was ranked the top 25 visited english site on alexa.com. now it dramatically decreased to ranking number 46.
i've been wondering about that "flag" link. i think it's a great idea, especially including the "safety" section. good job!
flag-tag, you're it.
Cheers!
John,
I have no problem with the "flag" system as a whole, but when I accidentally flagged my friend's site after not recognizing the button, the wish for an "are you sure you want to flag this person" pop up registered.
And I hate pop-ups.
Basically, I just think that making sure people know what "flagging" (on Xanga, at least) is before they decide, whether conciously or unconciously, that they want to report someone will help the system progress.
What would one do to "flag" the sites with layout changes prohibiting the flag link to show?
oh shoot!!! i didnt even know wut that "flag"" thing for so i just click on my own xanga...and then i found out wut that thing for.....i hope htat u're not gonna delete my xanga
Hmm... I am not at all fond of that little "flag" link. For one, it's going to be used accidentally (I already know people who've flagged themselves, not aware of what it was about and not seeing that tiny "help" link) ... but I'm not terribly thrilled with the flagging system in general. Seems to me it encourages vigilantism on the part of those who will feel behooved to do massive blog searches, deliberately sticking their noses in other people's business and flagging at will, in order to forward their own personal beliefs and agendas. I don't think self-rating will help. I'll stick around to see what happens but I have a feeling the whole thing is going to create a HUGE mess!
So hey, tell me this... if I could self-rate my own post as "adult content" or some other label, why can't you expand that to allow arbitrary "flags" such as "programming", "geocaching", etc.? It would almost be like... wait for it.... tags!
C'mon everyone, chant it it with me... TAGS NOT FLAGS! TAGS NOT FLAGS! TAGS NOT FLAGS!
hey i dont get this.
i accidently pressed the thing. i didn't know what it was
will my page get dlted?
I don't know about this. I accidentally flagged myself! (After a few minutes it was undone) I was trying to read what the things were about! The basic idea seems good but do you have a plan to stop mischievous people going around randomly flagging people? What do you mean by "carry less weight"? Does it mean that if you're flagged by a prank that it will still carry some weight? (Whatever that means) And then what? Do you have a plan to deal with abuse on flagging and flaggers? How will you handle people who disagree with anything you say and decide to have you flagged by other Xangans? I once blogged three sentences, something funny that was said in my home. I later received an e-mail several pages long harassing me about my post having insulted the reader. The anonymous person threatened to write bad things about me on their blog if I did not delete my post. This has the potential for abuse by people proclaiming themselves Xanga police.
Honestly it sounds like something you people would put in to lessen the work on finding sites that don't follow the xanga guidelines. It's good as long as it doesn't fall to those "pranks".
I AM SO OUTWARDLY AGAINST THIS.
The whole damn place will be flagged to shit in a matter of weeks.
Great job, you've opened the floodgates.
Hello, I have noticed there may be a problem with finding the “flag”. This happens to certain layouts, especially the center only types. I have serious concern about this site:http://www.xanga.com/Lestat_Forever and I could not find the “flag” indicated. Thanks for any help.
what if you accidently flag someone? which i just did cuz i didn't know what it was...
I don't mind flagging, but I feel the same way about self rating content as I do about ratings on music albums or the comics code of approval from olden days... it's a slippery slope that leads to censorship.
I know that because Xanga is a company, any expression through your auspices cannot be completely free... but I still feel very leary about the prospect of any form of ratings system, self-imposed or not.
i didn't know what happen with the flag yhing so i started to press al flags in my own site so what's next, what's gonna happen with my site?
i flagged myself too..
what's guna happed then?
You should add something to allow us to justify the flags. Maybe even add a flag for poor grammar and general idiocy. Personally, I fully intend on using this device to its full potential. I am bored at work, so every site that I happen across that may offend me will get flagged. Have fun sorting through them, John.
How do you unflag?
My first reaction is: this idea is even stupider than I thought it was, and I thought it was outrageously stupid in the first place. You've succeeded in forcing me to search my dictionary for adjectives stronger than "outrageously."
Couldn't you at least include a tutorial on using the flagging system before "launching" it? And as many have already asked, how the hell do you unflag?
Still looking in the dic for strong adjectives ...
I like the idea in theory and even with all of the fraud ones. But like I've said this has so much potential for abuse. I'd love to see a tutorial and eventually some stats on this thing.
My friend (id kenma1234) was block the xanga account...but MARY said that they can't restore ken's account...
but ken has sent a email to you and mary...he just want to have his id:kenma1234 and tell you please delete his account, let him can open a new account and use kenma1234 this id name...
however ,he has waited about one mounth...CAN YOU HELP HIM?! HE just want to have the id:kenma1234...if you don't delete his old account, how can he use the new account(id:kenma1234)???
PLEASE HELP HIM THANKS YOU!!!
I think I flagged my own account by mistake. -_- I hope that doesn't mean I'll get it erased. Please put more visible information about it.
I would like to know if I've been flagged and if I'm given the opportunity to privatize my posts if need be.
What if I accidently pressed the flag button??
-_-'
I'm still very against this.
The ability to rate your own site might make it a little better.
But let's face it, someone's going to find a code that gets rid of the flagging link.
This really isn't going to work...
Ok, you got me curious on how this flagging works...So I flagged yours ( :
LOVE the rating idea!
How I know if my site has been flagged???
So despite the good advice you've had, and all the concerns people have raised - that they want to know when and how this will be *enforced*, you've just gone ahead and implemented the system anyway, made it appear on everybody's pages with no explanation nor any link to this entry, and given no more information on enforcement. Even if I agreed with the idea of the system I'd still have to point out how much your "customer service" sucks.
Time to jump ship, I think. And there may be plenty of us rats. Good luck handling all the non-paying teenagers whilst us paying customers disappear over the horizon.
What SmellsLikeDeadLobster said....
I see no reason to keep giving you my money so I will look into other options.
It's a kind of a kick in the teeth for those people who have handed you over money for premium lifetime memberships - I would have liked to have been given a choice about whether I *wanted* to have been part of this new system.
thz!
The idea of the rating system should have been explored first, and as an alternative to flagging. There is too much potential for abuse when you start having people self-police like this. The process of flagging hasn't clearly been outlined, and numerous questions still remain unanswered. Nor have the flag categories been adequately defined, and with many categories being quite subjective I don't see how flagging based on censorship won't happen. Regardless of flags leading to banned sites - you are promoting censorship - you are telling people that if they don't like content and they feel it is inappropriate they can 'flag' it. It seems like it would be a lot less work to just rate sites according to content.
Still not happy. Have a feeling you will lost lots of Xangans over this. Probably to LiveJournal, too, which sucks for you.
man, this is a great idea
maybe it will cut down on some of the racist material and underage porn
Because Xanga provides blogs as a free service, I have a hard time criticizing any decision the management makes regarding censorship with regards to them. However, it does make sense that, if people pay to use a blog, they should be entitled to all rights they had preceeding this change in policy.
From a marketing standpoint, this is a bad idea. Having the rat button at the top of the page is going to drive off users for fear of censorship. A simple 'report inappropriate content' link on the main page with an open field for the site would be better. Having it present on every site creates a feeling of oppression.
Please note that I am not criticizing the terms of use, nor am I advocating a change in their content. Really, they're pretty much fine. So are most of the laws governing general conduct in the United States. However, we don't have little rat stations where people can, at a moment's notice, report petty miscunduct at the touch of a button. The trouble isn't with the regulations; it's with their presentation. If the flag button stays, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of users go.

LOOOOOOOOL, I flagged my own xanga before I know what it does
help
This is stupid. You need other Xangans to tell you which sites out there are violating Xanga policies? What do YOU at the Xanga headquarters do all day!?
wt should i do if i accidentaly flagged myself?
please reply by email: tomatochan1@hotmail.com
thx.
eugene.
ya um i accidentally flagged someone bcuz i didn know wut it does
so how do u remove this then?!!!p
and do they know that you've done so?
well. don't really like this idea.
What is going to happen when I get flagged because of my stance on Christianity?
I accidentally flagged my own xanga before i knew what it does....
I think I have a really good idea.
For the stuff that isn't illegal to post on the internet (like scams, threats, and crimes), why not create an access system based on the flags? When people register for Xanga sites, make them state their age. If they show up as minors, restrict their access to sites that have been flagged due to adult content. This way the job of "protecting minors" is still done, and Xanga is covered legally, but people don't have to be overly concerned about oppressive censorship.
I guess you would have to make people log in to see those sites, but it seems like a good idea to me. Better than shutting people down...
I flagged my own xanga tryin to figure out what it was... sorry please dont shut it down lol.
How can I unflag???? I accidentally flag my own xanga..><
cool. good stuff you guys are putting out on xanga these days! as for NYU -- congrats on ITP! i wish i had applied but the application deadline was like back in jan/feb and i didn't even start looking at masters programs until later. a bunch of my coworkers graduated from ITP though. i'll be starting at NYU's masters in 'graphic communications management and technology' this fall. it doesn't quite focus on interaction or software/web as much as ITP but i'm stoked about it overall. we rock.
I still support this 100%.
For the naysayers: Perhaps they should have read the TOS before signing up.
SmellsLikeDeadLobster is right. Furthermore, you should have told us all of this back when you first 'announced' the flagging system. You caused a lot of unnecessary fear by not thinking it all through and pointing out your failsafes then. I say 'announced' because you barely did so - blogging about it on one Xanga God's site does not count as informing the masses.
In general, it annoys me that you guys announce new features and plans at random on various of your individual sites. It wouldn't matter if you posted on the main Xanga.com news bit at the same time, but you often don't. I only knew about both your original flags post and this one because they were linked to by one friend or another.
And in the end, I will believe that your new system works when I see it happen. You haven't done a great job with the old Abuse system, and we need the assurance that things are going to change underneath the shiny new flags interface.
could someone please look at the site for BrokenInside783211? The account was hijacked from me and needs to be taken off xanga.
oops i flagged my own page! =) haha i didnt know what it was?
thats a really good idea though! good job! =)
Is there any particular reason that the last 3 times I've asked for help on troubleshooting, I've never gotten a reply? There are people who get kicked off of the site when they try to read mine and I want to know why this is happening. PLEASE help me?
yes ar me too how to cancel the flag??
I have flagged my own xanga!!
opps accidently flagged my own xanga
There's going to be a rating system? That's a pretty good idea.
I'm against censorship.
i have yet to see if you notifiy people if their site has been flagged. if bloggers are flagged or any reason they should be given a chance to defend themselves. and too much personal information flag? this is a blog. it's all about personal information. that isn't fair.
Hello! Nice to finally (kinda) meet and put a name behind Xanga....lol! Along with the majority, I'm alittle bit lost with the flagging as well. I'm wondering which ways up? You see, we understand the concept, but we need clairification on how to flag it right. Does one goes into someones blog and flag them? What about CRUCIBLE? Should I have to go to someones blog that I do not welcome their visits and flag them? There is a blog member that have her proxy comes over to read me, she and a few of her friends use to even goes as far as making up fictitious new blog accts just to access on to my blog to trick me and my tracker, how silly is that? Long story short.....If you view the history of my blog dating back to Sep or Oct2005 thru Jan 2006, you can see me blog all the tracking from my tracker. Sure I got fustrated and vented, I'm human and very annoyed with childish individuals that can't act like an adult, with meaningless reason to hoard up Xanga space. Anyways....I was told that the individual had gone 'Protected' and have some silly splash block on her blog. I truly don't care what she does, just quite stalking me with you minions would be an improvement. I have nothing to hide or have anything overly personal on my blog, it's all in my control. What I can't control is what others can do to accuse, and flagging for all the wrong reasons of self hatred of others perfections. Seems like all the bad ones, that have something to hide are on 'Protection'.....lol!
Alittle more info on the friend chatboard would be great!
yeah!!!
xanga rules!! and care more than myspace
oh shit, i flagged mah own xanga and i didn't know how to cancel it..i juz clicked it by accident....woosh ><
Hiya..
I think that Ghetsuhm has summed up my issues with the "flagging" system pretty well here, but I wanted to highlight the fact that many of your users were clueless about this until it went live, without any kind of announcement on the front page. How are we supposed to know about these things (not that much information has been made available about it at all) unless there is a single Xanga blog which is used for all major announcements of this kind? How come you guys didn't use TheXangaTeam site? It's difficult to support this notion of "informing" without any kind of structure or rule base, and I don't think our concerns were addressed at all before this went live.
I'm also confused as to how the flags (if they're only used to attract a Xanga God's attention) will differ from the old, "Send an email and wait to be ignored" system, into which I've delved in the past with regard sites devoted to self-harm? Does the flaggee find out they've been flagged? Does the flagger get a response if action is taken? Does the flagger get a response if action isn't taken against the flaggee, so they know what is within or outwith Xanga's boundaries of acceptability? Is there going to be a system of warnings? Will the warnings be graded according to the severity of the breach? Will some breaches be so fundamental that no warnings will be issued, just a closure?
I'm finding it pretty mind boggling that this "feature" has gone live without any of these concerns being addressed or any kind of framework (how about appeals?) implemented. All I can think of is the infamous "grudge informer" cases from Nazi Germany, and that's not something I want to associate with Xanga.
I'm afraid that I too am one of the disillusioned ones with this. A short heads-up whilst in 'planned' phase wasn't enough time to allow Xangans to get the idea of what this could entail.
Sure, you say that nothing will happen without human enforcement, but your abuse system didn't work well enough (which is where I agree with Morgane above), so how are we to know that for you to implement this it'll come down to a system-wide sweep of the most-flagged sites?
Why no option to omit yourself from flagging if you're a paying customer? The majority of Premium Xanga users are people who aren't here to abuse the system and offend - I think you'll find that the most offensive sites that you guys probably get reported to you daily are set up on the 'free' basis, with the abuser jumping ship between several usernames as he/she/they get closed down.
On the flipside, as someone who works with young people, I fully understand the need for such a system to be in place, I just think that the people who pay for services are being blanket-targeted along with the ones who are along for the free ride.
A little bit of thought next time, please, Xanga peoples!!
(and no, my Premium renewal won't happen now
)
i just flagged someone for harassing anothers site....can i do that? i did it under hatred site cause i didnt see an option for it...thanks...good idea though
lol . i flagged my own xanga by accident . clicked the flag button and then an accidental second click >_>
will the flags be annonymous?
thanks! good ideas hun!
Make a thing that pops up and says, "Are you sure" because I just flagged my site for being hijacked on accident? So, tinker w/ the selections a bit.
I JUST FLAGGED MYSELF NOT KNOWING WHAT IT WAS!!!
THIS IDEA IS GOOD BUT
IT CAN BE "EVIL"
KIDS BE FLAGGIN EVERYONE MESSING UP THIS WHOLE FLAGGIN GAME!!!!
I DONT WANT ANYONE FLAGGING ME FOR BEING FRAUD EVEN THOUGH IM NOT.
THIS FLAGGIN THING IS COOL BUT IT CAN BE UNCOOL IF USED BY SILLY LIL PEEPS WHO FLAGS PEOPLE FOR NO REASON!!!! DONT FLAG ME, YOU FLAGGER!!!!
YEAH LIKE HE SAID ABOVE ME^
"Make a thing that pops up and says, "Are you sure" because I just flagged my site for being hijacked on accident? So, tinker w/ the selections a bit."
GREAT IDEA^ SO I DONT HAVE TO ACCIDENTLY FLAG MYSELF WHEN I CLICK THE WRONG BUTTON NOT KNOWING I JUST GOT FLAGGED.
ALSO MAKE SOMETHING THAT PREVENT PEOPLE FROM FLAGGING YOU ON PURPOSE.
REPORT THE FLAGGERS WHO FLAG GOOD PEOPLE WHO GOT FLAGGED BY GIVING THE FLAGGERS A WARNING BECAUSE THEY FLAG GOOD PEOPLE BY FLAGGING THEM.
wt if i pressed it wrongly??
oops, i accidently flagged my own xanga site...don't delete my site!
Cool. This will help make Xanga a better place for everyone. Do you guys need more moderators to review sites? I could help out.
ooopppss i fagged my own site i didn't know what it was!!
Can someone please explain better about this personal info thing?
In the Terms of Use (as of 5/4/2006), it mentions we may not "collect or store personal data about other users", so I'm left to wonder if this means that we can't post our own data without getting hit by this new flag.
There are times when I've posted in my own xanga things like my cell # or my address because I had friends that were mailing me their computers to fix (i work tech support for a small group of friends and family)
i flagged my own xanga by mistake... didn't mean to.. oh well.... its a good thing there is human reviewing!!
what if we accidentally flagged some page that we didn't mean to?? cause i just accidentally flagged my own page =(
This idea still has kinks. There should be a box that pops up and states 'are you sure you want to flag this site?' I was curiously clicking around and i accidentally flagged my own account before i saw this announcement...I thought there would be something more to read about it where you click..There also should be a button to unflag, a cancel button in case someone flags unintentionally. I do see by the comments here that many people accidentally flagged themselves or their friends as well.
interesting......
the FMA-
how can u tell if u have any flags
what can i do-_-.....i flag my own xanga.............................................
driven by curiousty=______=
i accidently flagged my xanga oops
srry i got confused my friend flagged my xanga by accident
I can understand deleting a site because of harasment or nudity but some of the options for flagging are too much. What about the people that give out too much personal information or the ones that talk about self harm? They haven't done anything illegal. They should be told once about the issue. If the people that give out too much information wants to have people stalking them, it's their choice. You said it yourself "Xanga believes very strongly in the concept of freedom of speech." You need to make an entry explaining what will happen to flagged users once they are reviewed.
I meant physically harm to themselves not others.
Yes! Way to make every individual member an informant!
Because we all know that if we see some offensive content that it's WAY too hard to...
(a) ignore it
(b) call an adult if it's a local personal problem
(c) call the authorities if it's a local criminal problem
(d) email you
Gosh wowee fuck, Batman!
...at least tell me it's anonymous before I cry.
the internet is a place of freedom.
xanga should be working to be a place where people can express themselves in however a manner they choose.
censorship is never the answer.
SUPPORT FREE SPEECH!
Good idea.
Is there a way where u can flag FAKE celebs who waste xanga space... ? And also roleplayers...posers?
Sounds very useful.
I'm just suddenly afraid of getting my Xanga flagged. xD
umm I accidently flagged my own xanga haha I went to click out of it an I accidently hit one, how do you fix it??
what exactly are you looking at with respect to to much personal information? because this is my primary means to keep in touch with my freiends from home while I'm stuck here at college a few states away from everyone?
I also would like to know if it's anonymous to the flagged one. Like, if I flag someone, will they know it was me who did it? Cause that would just stink.
what about flagging illegal use of copyrighted material?
will people know when i flag their pages?
what if the person doesn't have a FLAG thing on their site?
if you flagged your xanga how do undo the flagged?
can the people that get flaged so many times get their xangas shut down?????
if u comment me bakk thats not my xanga its my friends so comment me on gurliegurl112 thx!
how do you unflag yourself?
umm wut happens if ppl are leaving u threat comments to kill u?
what will you do about people being stalkers? There is this girl on my xanga whom I dont know, she sends to many messages I try being nice, but the other day she had my picture in one of her entries and it was like dance yes you dance. I think there should be a flag for stalkers.
u shit hole & fuckin ass hole biotch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What happens if we accidentally flag our own site? I just did and I'm not sure what happens next...
what if people don't have a flag button because of their layouts?

h0tNsPiCy91:we were murdered in your room which was once my little sisters room. she was killed in bed when i was sleeping and i was killed in the closet and skinned to death.
2seXay4u:quite lying. i never had a sister. if i did my parents would tell me. whatever. your stupid.
h0tNsPiCy91: you dont believe me? well if you wanna look in your closet floor.
h0tNsPiCy91: i carved my name, time and date i was being murdered. then i

h0tNsPiCy91: if you dont believe me little brother check the internet. type in ''smith sisters murdered anonymously''.
h0tNsPiCy91: i gtg little brother. i love you. and mom and dad soo much. i cant believe they kept us a secret from you. they should burn in hell.
the boy checked the closet. he saw the carvings. was it true? he surfed the internet and everything was their about the anonymous murder in the house. the next morning the boy went downstairs. it was so queit. maybe mom and dad was sleeping.. hours later the boy found his parents in their closets skinned and hung. then he found more carvings on the ground. it says '' I TOLD YOU I WASNT LYING. I accidently flagged myself, what do I do?
oops,! i flaged my own xanga account and didn't know what it dose.
hey. im terrified of this one perosn who commented me!! he said hey cutie... his site was totally gross... im scared!!
Accidently have two sites. Would like to flag the first one to say something like 'not in use' or out of order. But don't want it to effect my other site. Both sites though have the same e-mail address but different user names. Because of that they do interact. Is there any hope of getting rid or flagging the first one without messing up the one I want to keep?
pricehiya
i clicked on flag on my own site too before i knew what it was about, i thought at first it was about boosting. However i closed the flag menu before even clicking the submenus, does this mean i'm flagged or not?
I flagged my Xanga and didnt know what i was doing , now i dont know how to take it off!! please help!!
yo how do you remove a flag? i accidentally flagged myself by accident and don't know how to get rid of it!!
Will this flagging system be viewable by the blog's owner?
how can i delete an account that i use to use...i no longer use it..and i have forgotten the PW to it and the email i registered it to...please get back to me...
OMG kool
i'm worried... lindz_hollister seems like a fake teenage girl and lots of girls are leaving her friendly detailed comments about where they are and what they've done. NONE of them know who she is and she's leaving comments everywhere.
thanks,
mria
Hi, my sister got a somewhat graphic comment and I don't really appreciate the nature of it, but I don't know how to block or flag the person who sent it to her.
I haven't signed onto my myspace in a while, but today I was checking it out, and I saw that there was a flag feature, so I clicked on it. But when I did, I accidentally flagged my own site for shut down! What's going to happen, and what can I do to make sure nothing does happen?
thanks.
Well, I didn't know what the "flag" was and accidentally hit it on My Hat is Older than You.. IGNORE the flag..
****There must be some way we can CANCEL the flag if accidentally hit...
I was simply trying to get back to the frontpage.
Christy
u should also put in an option for if the PERSON is spamming your site with inappropriate content. I try to block ppl but they just come BACK with a new xanga post. u should allow blocking of IPs. or even ban IPs

look at the LAST comment (by bummickey), two days ago i received a simlar message from the 'lin" person whose comment i deleted. we have to STOP THIS.
I accidentally flagged someone. Can I remove it or write to someone saying the blog is actually great and I actually was trying to subscribe?
oops me too, flagged myself
I joined your community for the sole purpose of reporting spammers who are using your service to spam forums (like mine). I reported more than 30 spammer pages and they still exist. What gives?
Last time I checked defamation was at the very least unethical. It could even by illegal in some cases, as those where a grievance suit could be filed against the perpetrator. I suggest adding a defamation flag.
There is a person who posted info (who has a "friends lock" on their account) about wanting to commit suicide - and even attempted it, apparently, once already in the past week . I have looked all over Xanga on how to get this person some help (have even sent TWO messages to Xanga).
I called the 800 suicide hotline to try to get her hel. They said I had to call the police, because they couldn't help with online-related issues. So I called the police (twice). Someone came to take a report from the local sheriff's office yesterday morning - - but I don't think she's gotten the help she needs yet. Very, very frustrating and sad...
I guess if someone is truly and completely intent on doing something to harm their self - that they are going to do it - - and it's really not within your control... but it's frustrating when you try to get someone the help they need, and it is seemingly ignored by the very people who could at least try to get them some help.
Sorry to vent... but it's a human life that's at stake here.
I think there should be a section on how to get people like this some real help.
I don't know if this system works for spamming with scams. This person: http://www.xanga.com/janetkissandra sent this to me in a message, and looks like that scam that was sent around in emails:

What do you do to address this? I tried to report it, but I could not give any details; just submit the site link. There was nothing on the site about this. You guys need to come up with some way for us to forward these sorts of things and/or report it to you if it is coming in our message box. Thanks.
I would like to see all those XANGAN's that want to post pornographic content or adult themed items to have some form of lock, something along the lines that prevent the casual surfer from inadvertently watching. Currently Xanga accounts can have friend lock - this is great, if a user and their friends want to share among themselves I have no problem with that. I do not want the casual user of Xanga finding these adult videos. There are plenty of adult content sites on the internet without having Xanga joining those ranks.
There is a site I want to flag, but the 'flag' window opens behind a pornograpic video: user name cmef69nc.
i have been flagging a site that is personnally attacking me and that it is very hurting but it is still not deleted please delete it :C huhu
