  • IM isn’t a problem for me – it is blocked by my employer :-J

    However, being off xanga and email tends to give me the willies – and being without google… well, that’s just cruel and unusual punishment.

    I need a _good_ internet phone – one that supports java, javascript, and flash; that way, I should be able to access all my “daily” site visits as long as there is coverage…

  • when i first started working it was so hard not to have access to the internet. i felt like i was going through withdrawal. the first thing i do when i wake up is hop on the computer. the first thing i do when i get home from work is hop on my computer. haha

  • same… every time I get on my computer, it’s like instinct to get onto the internet & sign onto my messangers… it just doesn’t feel right when I’m on the computer & not on the internet… (which causes problems when I’m trying to do my homework because the internet practically calls to me… [causing me to stay up later in the night;; in fact... I should probably be doing my homework right now...] )

I’ll actually be productive.” Yet the first thing I do is check my Xanga for comments. So…. you know, there are thousands just like you. haha.

  • eh, i used to IM this one person that i met through xanga a lot, as a matter of fact for a time she was the only reason why i’m IM’ing. Then the IM’ing stopped, so i don’t really IM anymore … because I married her.

  • the person who said the first 3 days are the hardest is right. I am definitely addicted to the internet and IM. Last year when I had to go away to camp for a week, I was in shock when I found out there were no computers there. It was hard, but I made it through the week. Though the first thing I did when I got home was get on the computer.

  • You probably are addicted to it.  Try to read a book or go out with friends or something.  It’ll help.  I quit IM for an entire 7 months.  Partially because my computer broke down, but you know…I’d never admit to that. :)

    hey are a fix it guy, or a answer all xanga questions guy?  cuz I get a message everytime I try to go to my site that says my Internet Explorer can’t open my site. and it aborts the operation.  This happened right after I deleted a link to the site where I get music videos, I don’t know if that has anything to do with it…anyways, my email is mkmm87@msn.com.  Thanks.

    then everyone bugs you and you gradually sign on again.

    sometimes when i post footage or an AVI of some kind, it screws with the HTML and makes the whole bar at the bottom of each entry, with the timestamp, public/private, and edit buttons, disappear!

    then i’m stuck and i can’t do anything with the entry.
    ideas?

  • I left a message in your previous blog under name PhotoGraphics.  I have a similar problem in my LittleE site but at this time, not as bad as in the other.  I had to go back a ways in my posts to find missing photos.  I tried to do a fix on a missing photo.  I uploaded a file and it would not appear in the blog.  I renamed the photo and uploaded it again.  The upload shows the frame of where the photo should sit but no viewable picture file.  Also shows in the photo storage but again, you can’t see anything, only a white outline saying it is there.  When I click on the missing photo on the blog, it brings up a page to see it but finally says it isn’t there.

  • Hey John, I’m just some random person (not trying to be creepy) , but I just want you to know that you’re awesome, and being addicted to IM is ok. There was a period of time in which I was addicted to Xanga…which leads to the question of how Xanga was created, but you’ve probably heard the question millions of times. Xanga has inspired me to go on to major in computer science (I’m a senior in high school). I’m still unsure if I should, but I’ll know once I try it out in college–I hope. Did you major in computer science?

    They are hate sites by kids in my town.  That’s not what xanga is all about, if you ask me.  I’m an adult and I kinda keep an eye on “my kids” since May because we had a couple of suicides that affected a bunch of kids here. I’m not spying on them, they know I’m here and I am close to about 10 of them now thanks to xanga.  They call me mommie.

  • Here’s an unusual request…Can you help me advertise an All-Xanga Yard Sale that I’ve got going on at my site. I’m moving to another city and I’ve found that it’s easier to sell stuff than pack it. I don’t know where you are, but where I live in OH…it’s snowing. So there is no way to sell this stuff at an actual yard sale, because people don’t yard sale shop in the middle of January…since yard sales don’t exist at that time. At least not here. I have the ability to ship stuff to people and I can accept payments via Paypal as I have a business account. I would appreciate any help that you could give me in getting this done. I really don’t have the space or money to move this stuff. I’m continually updating the list of stuff as I don’t want to overwhelm people with all of my junk at once.   • This has nothing to do with the subject I know, but at the same time things like this you need to be aware of and going via the abuse link is of no help at all. Read THIS and you’ll see what I’m saying. What the author is addressing is a blatant disregard of the TOS you guys put in place and something needs to be done about it. This has some searches I made on blogrings. Again, something needs to be done about this as it is a violation of the Xanga TOS and since nothing seems to be done using the abuse links, I’m posting it here.

  • I too am very disturbed by the amount of porn and child pornography that seems so prevalent on Xanga. The hate groups are another thing that bother me but honestly, I have three kids who use xanga and if they wound up at some of these sites, I will definitely pull the plug on xanga for them and for myself. I would hate to be cut off from the great relationships with the people I have met here but this is not only blatent disregard for the TOS but also for our kids safety and the kiddie porn is illegal. I am sure you guys dont want pedophiles trolling for young kids here and I am confident this will be handled swifty. Thanks.

  • just thought of a feature request. this has probably already been mentioned by one of these millions of users, but: i would like dynamic rss feeds to be available for any user’s blog, and one so i can read my personal subscription digest without having to (1) wait for the daily email, or (2) log in to read my subscriptions. i realize that i can change the email options, but those options don’t really appeal to me. i’d like an rss feed, so i can view the newest of all my subs at once.
    (hope i didn’t repeat myself too much.)

  • John, It has come to my attention that their are numerous users violating the Terms of Service in a myriad of ways. It has also come to my attention that numerous users have been emailing and posting complaints along with suggestions to help clean up Xanga and make it safe and user friendly for everyone. This is not an 18 or 21 and over site. This site clearly allows children under the age of 18 to become members. Therefore, it is your duty and obligation to abide by the legal TOS and act accordingly. Ignoring comments and emails from Xanga users voicing their concerns is unacceptable. It has been suggested that if you do not have the proper manpower to police your own site, then there are plenty of volunteers who would be willing to do so. I suggest that you act like a moral human being, and start cleaning house as of today.

  • If you think that giving up IM for one day is hard, try giving up the computer for a day (one where you’re not already going out and doing lotsa things that will distract you from thinking about using the computer) and see how u do with that… and for added measure, why not give up the TV for that day too. I tried it, it was hard, but I managed it. My secret was books.

  • If you can’t stay off of IM for a entire day, you should give out your screen name. Then, you wouldn’t be able to get on IM. Tons of people would be IMing you telling you how much they love Xanga, lol, which isn’t a bad thing in small numbers, but when you have 50 IMs or so coming at once then the program would crash. Now, that would be something to see.
