XANGA IS HIRING!
We're staffing up our Help Team so we can answer help emails faster. We thought about placing an ad online, but we really want to hire from the Xanga community.
What's the job? You'll be working closely with me and Chris to answer emails from fellow Xangans and write up Frequently Asked Questions. We will train you on the ins and outs of Xanga, and on internet technology like xHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. And if you're into it, we'll also teach you CSS2, the Document Object Model, and Flash. Basically we'll teach you everything we know about the web.
Who are we looking for? Someone who likes helping people, enjoys internet community, and loves Xanga. Also, you love to learn and get a kick out of solving puzzles ("Why are our Malaysian users having trouble posting? Why are random users getting redirected to Amazon.com?"). And most of all, you're a fun chill person who gets along with our team.
Who are we NOT looking for? Someone who doesn't like people. We find taking care of the Xanga community to be deeply rewarding. If you can't tap that feeling, you're probably not going to enjoy working here. Also, we're not looking for "employees" who require constant supervision and monitoring. We're keen on building a culture of trust. As you earn our trust, you'll get more responsibility than you could ever dream of.
This is a great way to break into the Internet industry. You'll get tons of experience, and an unbelievable amount of mentoring and training. If you're interested, we've pulled together a list of ten real questions that we've gotten (to give you a feel for what the job is like, and as part of our application process). Darn...my whole mind set shattered when I saw that part about living in New York City...other than that, I'm like some of these other people. Good with computers, good with people, and worked with codes (xHTML, HTML, C++, JAVA, and a little of Javascript) That and I'm not sure about the age limit, but I'm just now going on 18 in January.
hmm ... have you noticed that almost ALL these comments are about people not living in the NYC area? Xanga is great, and you've proved that, with the internet, the restraints set forth by long distances cannot stop a friendship, a ton of friendships, and a whole community from developing. How then, can you contradict everything your wonderful blog site stands for by only hiring someone from the NYC area? The internet makes anything possible - even a video conference interview.

Well Some of those question are really Easy to answer....but i am not in the NYC AREA
Why wouldnt you be interested in letting people help from different locations - yes you cant physically train and show them everything.. but from my experience online communities are best served within. You get people that usually care and also those that know something about the product being discussed..

I love that you're asking for applications for xanga users. I would love to apply, but, and this is a big BUT ( does not mean I have a big butt, I don't think. *G*), I like where I live and what I do now. I already get to help people, by assisting those in need with food. I am the director of our local food shelf. My family and friends are here, too. If you ever look for anyone to assist outside the NYC area, I would apply.

I heard a whisper, about a gal from NY, who moved to FL a little less than 2 years ago, who would love to move home. Apparently, she loves Xanga and Xangans and has a strong sense of closeness to "this place." I've also heard mention that she has a flair for the type of work you're talking about, as well as a strong desire to learn as much about technology as she can. Apparently she also temp'd on the Merrill Lynch Help Desk a few years ago and we hear she worked down in Soho for a while too (but she's been hiding those facts on her resume). She's also known as the mouth, the giggler and a silly goose, so I'm sure she'd be fun to chill with during work. And ... well, we hear that for the past 10 years, the only thing she loves more than staring up at the sky and going on rollercoasters, is doing things online. Sounds to me ... as though all you have to do is give her a reason to come (and the time to get there). Then again, I'm just another user in this land called Xanga - what do I know?
No matter who gets offered the position, or who accepts it, the best news is that you're growing. You guys have done a fabulous job and have an enormous amount of things to be proud of in your lives. Great Accomplishment!

I enjoy helping people, love the internet community, and Xanga is part of my living. I also love and am very willing to learn about the web, almost everything in it. I am going to live in NYC starting from February 2005 and seriously looking forward to a very challenging and interesting job.

hey ppl! i had a pretty fun weekend, i went to tylers on friday night, and watched 13 going on 30...way cute! and jarrett dressed up like a girl, and brad put on a tie and stuff and they danced to my heart will go on, and it was so halerious!!! then on saturday i went with heidi to the bball game up in cedar and PV won all 3! and holy heck there are a bunch of FINE bball players! then yesterday i had a very spiritual day, and it was awesome, and today we got out of school at 10:50 and im so excited! i hope yall have a great day!

Man, this would be a dream job for me. I love xanga, and I would thoroughly enjoy being a part of the xanga team. Unfortunately, I live in northern Kentucky, which is by no means in the NYC area

Have you guys though about using state seperations. Like someone who works with some one incharge of each state? then it would be less of a hassel... if the problem occurs in a certain state or what not that assigned person could simply fix it*Just a suggestion* but if i lived in the NYC area i wouldn't mind doing something like this at all... It's really a shame you aren't opening this particular position towards a telecommuting solution. People can write web pages and do web based help at any desk, anywhere, and I know some absolutely amazing candidates for this position, that just aren't in the NYC area.
