XTOOLS UPDATE
The new Xtools seems to be settling down nicely! Thanks to everyone for your help reporting bugs over both comments and emails. With your help, we’ve identified and fixed just about every known issue. One last nagging issue though: ever seen random HTML like this, when someone leaves a comment?
LABEL id=HbSession SessionId=”3777852666″.
It appears to be some sort of interaction between Xanga and a browser toolbar called Hotbar (this ”LABEL id” HTML used to appear for some non-Hotbar users too, but that’s been fixed). We’ve contacted HotBar about the bug, and are working with them to figure out what’s going on. In the meantime, you can prevent the extra HTML from appearing by disabling Hotbar.
Other than that, we’ve fixed all the known bugs with Xtools! A few examples:
- Comments randomly getting eaten
- Submit button not working for some users
- “Target New” HTML sprinkled randomly in links
- Extra “BR” tags appearing when using plaintext Xtools to edit
If you’re still coming across any bugs like these, please let us know in the comments.
Coming up next: a rich-text Xtools editor that works in Netscape/Mozilla! Granted only about 1% of you are using Mozilla… but we always promised ourselves that when a non-Microsoft browser supported web standards, we’d build an richtext Xtools for it. Janet‘s finishing up final tweaks on our rich-text Mozilla Xtools now, so stay tuned!

cool, I’m gonna test out more xTools stuff from my linux box using Konqueror… hopefully no bugs will come up there.
yes … have had all those probs at one time or another … but the new xtools is way better than the old … thank you & aloha
3rd comment! bla
Oh good… so that random target one wasn’t just me. Woot!
daaamn my comments wont show up!
anyway, hehe thanks for fixing everything!
some of the smiley and eprop icon things havent been showing up for the last few days.. do you know anything about that?
wow thanks so much! i use mozilla quite a lot! that will really be helpful!
i’m excited.
No rich text for Safari?
LALALALALA
we mozilla users like to refer to that as the TOP 1%, thank you very much
Yeah… What he said ^
that’s the best news i’ve heard in ages! i love netscape 7.0….it blows away anything microsoft can put out! and i bet if the other 99% of the population tried netscape 7, they’d be converted instantly! except maybe the safari users….they might still like safari.
oh happy happy joy joy..i can’t wait to be able to blog without having to open up IE.
there was also this weird issue with my entries in mozilla looking fine in it, but ending up with no newlines on ie. =
Woo hoo! Every time I use the new xtools I see some new feature, it seems.
Small buggies: When you have the xtools open and try to change part of the fonts, the new size font kind of sticks (ie. stays at that font size but does not change font size on subsequent attempts.) You have to change the font size back to the previous size then change to another size to make another size work. Not really a biggie, but a lil incovenient and puzzling when you are messing with it.
Not really a bug, but the old comment box still comes up when you add something to the review section (which *I* actually use sometimes
)
Thanks for all the updates. Mosta the time, they are working well for me!
Hmm, that only kink I’ve noticed with the new x-tools is that it changes my spacing. If I don’t space twice after the period, it will remove the space entirely.so.my.sentences.look.like.this. Not a big deal, I just have to go back, and endit the entry to add another space. Otherwise, I love all the new changes!
*gasp!*
xTools in Mozilla? Yay!
The rich text xTools never worked in my IE (not Xanga’s fault; the IE that came with this computer was exceptionally buggy), so it was seanmeister’s Mozanga program which pushed me to try Mozilla, and I’ve been hooked ever since. A rich text xTools would make me very happy…thank you.
Cool. =]
I can’t post photos this morning
I’m on a Mac OS 8.6 with Netscape 7. Any help is greatly appreciated!
The Mozilla/rich-text thing is (in my mind) something of a chicken and egg scenario. All the “good stuff” is made primarily for IE (premium xTools, for example, was always nicer in IE). Thus, without the “good stuff”, why would people consider a new browser?
To me, it’s great news that y’all are going to improve the xTools for Moz (again!). Perhaps more people will try it now. Keep up the good work.
Just stopping by to say “hi” and to say great job.
WHAT ABOUT SAFARI .. I GOT XTOOLS BUT NOT RICH TEXT
The “target=_new” HTML still isn’t working… at least, not consistenly… with my Windows XP and IE. I got a “target=z9znew” and ”target=_self” (twice) in my most recent entry.
image upload isn’t working again… happily informs me that i’ve found a bug.
hi, john. i have the same problem: it says i can’t upload photos and that there’s a bug.
i’m using Opera, and the curently listening/reading/watching function doesn’t work for me. Its not even there. So everytime I want to use that function I have to open up IE? can u help solving my prob?
nyce xanquh!! ;D pr0ps.. <33*
What about the line-spaces and font discrepancy between stuff written in the x-tools box and the submitted post?
… for the space problem –people are having to either put space-saver punctuations or having to spend a lot of time going back and forth back and forth until the two match up… the fonts not matching up is also maddening.
hotbar is annoying. good job though (=
Two issues:
1) In the new Xtools, when I make a long post, then return to edit it, it is all jumbled, especially when I have put up more than one image.
2) I’ve been noticing that the newest site still have that first post on them… the one that I think is private. Perhaps the new users accidently made it public or something.
Just thought I’d share that. Have a good one!
i have a hard time figuring out what the layout will look like with photos until i’ve submitted it because of the window size (i usually try to remember ‘private’ first in case it needs adjusting. but i do like it better than the old.
today, just now… i had to try adding photos several times because of bugs. i just keep trying and after a couple of times, it goes through without the bug message.
thanks for all the hard work!
i hope i’m not jinxing myself by saying i’ve experience no problems at all with the new xTools thus far. woot! ah, the venerable john has subbed to me. *blush*
i’m having a hard time uploading pictures. if i optimize my pictures or resize them .. it comes out really fuzzy. when the size is reduced to 200 or 300kb, the image tool won’t accept it. so, now i have to link pictures from other sites to get a clear image.
i also keep getting a “You found a bug” message when i try to leave a comment on my friend’s site http://www.xanga.com/bungisngis. i can’t leave a messaage at all. hope you can fix this. thanks.
Tell Hotbar company to stop bugging people with their search bar software. That crappy thing download and installs to your computer without the peoples permission. Hotbar is a spyware which mostly shows advertisments. Go to this website for more information. http://simplythebest.net/info/spyware/hotbar_spyware.html

one post at a time? i try not to post more than one a day because people tend to forget about the initial post. i like for my posts to be treated fairly :]
oh john, you make me smile
YAY JOHN! All I use is Netscape (IE sux) and i’m very pleased with this info!!
thanks a bunches!
<LABEL id=HbSession SessionId=”1327177896″>Thanks for the info here… and for all the work you guys have put in. I would think a pre-requisite for Xangan staff would have to be the ability to work well under pressure!. Take care of yourselves there.
