Haha I was going to say a dog as well.@mexicanarose -
Someone who defends you in public no matter what, and tells you in private if you’re in the wrong.
sticking up for someone even when you know that they’re wrong.
/ my dog who loves me even though I leave for days at a time [my family's around, but she's MY baby]. she’s so forgiving.
good or bad, do or die, unquestioning. loyalty.
Sticking with Xanga for over 6 years
Loyalty for me is sticking to a person no matter what.. And even when people are saying bad things about that person, you would still believe that person because you are loyal to him. But that’s just me.
Woo, John the blogger posts again! Yaaayy!!!
To me, loyalty means betrayal of any kind is no option, and the more loyal someone is the less judgemental they are. Loyalty sticks with its friends even if it doesn’t always agree with them. Loyalty doesn’t leave without a good reason.
someone you can trust not to sleep with your gf when you leave them alone for a week. someone you can call at 4am to post bond for your jail release.
That’s the subject of my post yesterday, actually.
when you’re in the deepest shithole ever, and the person comes down to sit with you. whatever, whenever, no matter.
Someone who will defend you even when you’re not around.
For my recent GRE essay, I was asked “Most people are taught that loyalty is a virtue. But loyalty—whether to one’s friends, to one’s school or place of employment, or to any institution—is all too often a destructive rather than a positive force.” Of course, there is a huge grey area to this subject…
someone who stands by you and stands up for you when you least deserve it but need it most.
I consider it to consist of two qualities: 1. someone who will tell it like it is, even if it means that it will hurt your feelings because that person believes the truth is better than white lie. 2. someone who sticks with you through thick and thin.
Loyalty sometimes is payback. Those who enjoyed the benefits of America or a long term relationship often return the favor by being loyal.
Loyalty is also learned and not a natural thing. Learning not to cheat on your friends is something that takes some people a long while to learn. In fact some people are almost impossible to learn how to be loyal because they rather be honest, or capricious or even contrary.
Loyalty to xanga is probably what some of the readers wonder they should do for xanga. My loyalty is not so strong (to xanga) because I haven’t purchased the premium plan or just stayed with xanga. In return I have to suffer thru ads on my blog and have problems with presentations of my blog. In a way I reap what I deserve because of my less than faithfulness to xanga.
What’s up with John? Why the short blog? Are you going to reply more to your comments or feel your hands are tied in giving your views? I don’t think John has been too loyal to his readers…..
unyeilding infinite fidelity
giving you every benefit of the doubt….
and making you look and come out good in every situation (vs. putting you down talking badly about you)
@PPhilip - I just wrote a longer blog below? Wow, I have never had my loyalty to Xanga or my readers questioned!!
Loyalty is a two way street… built on or for… it is truly the only thing one cannot buy or purchase.. it grows in our minds and the minds of of friends. Its a trust in the future based on actions in the past.
the person who bails you out of a situation when everyone else doesn’t. That’s loyalty.
I’ve been on Xanga for seven years and while I’ve looked at other places Xanga is still home to me. How’s that for loyalty?
I can think of examples of loyalty, but I cannot define what it is. To me.
When you posted your response yesterday, I thought to myself “I think loyalty is awesome but I don’t appreciate the ‘stick by your side even when you’re wrong’ mentality… it reminds me of when we were kids and if your best friend was mad at a kid, you were mad too.” I think loyalty is partially that but a lot of other things. Loyalty is sticking up for your friend and refusing to let anyone talk trash about them, and not telling your friend about it later (because you don’t have to, you don’t need them to know, that’s just how it is). Loyalty is knowing that person will always be there for you and do everything within their power to make sure you are never alone when you don’t want to be, and that you are when you want to be. … and more.
Loyalty is commitment to something. It could be a job, a team or a person. You commit to be there and you carry through!
I would consider loyalty sticking by someone despite whatever baggage they come with or collect. HOWEVER, I don’t believe in glorifying someone if I know they did wrong, and I most definitely don’t want to be around someone who knows they did wrong, but doesn’t want to admit, apologize, or fix it. Does this mean I’m disloyal? I think loyalty is just one of those words that have a surface meaning, but also have a ton of consequential exceptions.
I define loyalty as commitment to friends and principles. Loyalty, IMHO, should always be secondary to doing the right thing. However, some people see it as commitment to friends whether their friends are right, wrong or total a$$holes. Girlies do this in playgrounds, boys do it in gangs, countries do it in war. This enables people – and countries – to continue behaving badly or on a greater scale to commit atrocities secure in the knowledge that their friends, especially if they have powerful friends, can ignore the rules and laws that would otherwise have been enforced and which all who are outside this circle of friendship have no choice but to abide by. Both sides can mutually substitute a good conscience and knowing they are doing the right thing with the warm glow of friendship and, with countries and gangs, the extra bonding that conspiracy brings.
A little while ago, I was very unhappy, John, that you came down on the side of friendship rather than enforcing the rules you and your team set up, but you’re the Xangagod and can distribute your favour as you please and so therefore I am sure we disagree on my definition of loyalty. S’okay.
Truth + Trust + Taking shit = Loyalty
to me, in friendship, loyalty is like this. 1. when you make a decision i help you make a right decision as much as possible. 2. once you make a decision, no matter what you do, if it’s not evil, i support you. 3. i take care of you as my real family.
