Dash Colors
Thanks to everyone for your feedback on the upcoming dash! We made a bunch of tweaks, including making the dash optional and adding a full preview for each entry (more here).
Now our last big todo is finalizing the Dash color scheme. A number of you mentioned that the Dash was awfully green.
It’s definitely a strong color: you either love it, or you hate
it. But most shocking to us, a number of people said the page
“didn’t look very Xanga-y”.
That simply won’t do!So we went back to the drawing boards. Our goals were to pick a
more color-neutral color scheme that also felt pretty Xanga-y. We
tried almost over 100 variations, before narrowing it down to three:- First, a neutral look to act as a baseline: Option One
- Next, a version with a dash of color: Option Two
- And finally, a version with “Xanga Blue”: Option Three
What do you think… better? Please check out the three versions, and let us know which one you like best!

and for that reason, i have to go with #2 as my fav. i’m generally a darker blue / navy kinda guy anyways.

#3 is by far the best one. However, why can’t the colors be customizable like our look & feel? We should be able to mix and match the dash how WE want it to look.
I like the xanga blue one.

Why not just have the colors correspond to whatever the user has on thier main page??? How difficult could it be to have the trim, text and background be applied to it just like the regular pages we have now?

hmm. I “extremely dislike” the 1st one… & the 2nd one isn’t much better. So I suppose I’ll go with the 3rd one… (but I kind of like that green layout that you guys were using before, heh)… & (like probably half the people here) I still say it would be cool if we could choose our colors… (is there an actual reason as to why we can’t?)

I like two best because it is a deep rich blue. Blue is my favorite. Three could work. If you get bored like most of us do it would be nicer to change it ourselves. I understand also that not all of us will be happy.

I actually like the “green” version….it looks xanga-y to me…it’s neutral and represents “life” which most xanga pages share to the world….”life at it’s best” ithas a feel of “growth”

I like them all, but I kinda prefer option 2. However, I think making it all optional is optimal

Customizability of the dash, however, would probably be the best way to go.
Option 2!
Option 1 is a bit dull, and Option 3 has too much blue. (Personally, I’m not a fan of blue.) The dash of color in Option 2 is perfect.
Personally, I liked the green. But if I have to choose, I’d take option 3.
I think hackers swept all through Tyler, TX metro.

there is this thing, spreading around xanga. i clicked my friend’s address in subscriptions page, cause i saw this weird entry, and when i went back to my page, i saw the same stuff appear on my xanga! it says somethign about the administer or something and i cannot navigate in my private page because it took away every link in there. i’m afraid that if anyone else clicks it, they will have it on their page also, and the same goes with you.
fix my site! help! but be warned, if you visit it from this site, or if you visit any of the other ruined ones you will ruin your xanga. please help us!

Hey, all you people with the messed up xangas:
One of my friends told me that all you have to do is
1. Go to the xanga home page
2. sign in under safe mode
3. click weblog entries on the left
4. delete the ones that are bad.
Hope this works for you (=

i like options 2 or 3. being able to choose th colors would be great, but if that would give the chance to make it “breakable” i’d live with not having my favorite color.
Xanga Blue! But maybe only as a default? A lot of people have mentioned choosing – I don’t know how hard it’d be to implement similar Look and Feel code on the Dash.

I think that if we can’t pick the color scheme individually then it isn’t worth it. The schemes you’ve given us are a little cold. They are very boyish and computer nerdish. I think the green was nice it gave it more of a happier user friendly feel and it had a nice splash of color that the newer ones are lacking.

I like the 3rd one best… but I also like blue. However, instead of worrying about bipartisan issues (
) you should just have it customizable.
Anyways, after answering that, I feel bad bringing up something which has caught my attention and is completely irrelevant, but, I also think that it should be said.
I believe that Xanga should allow users to join 10 blogrings max… you see, I know it doesn’t seem like too much of a difference, but I rarely ever join blogrings. You see, tonight I joined basically an inside joke blogring created by my friend, and I had to give up another blogring to fufill this. You see, like I said before, I rarely join blogrings, and if the limit had been 10, or 9, I would have avoided this problem, I meerly picked 10 because it’s a nice and even number
Now, here’s what I find… disconserting. In your FAQ, you claim that the reason that there are only 8 blogrings is because you fear that people will abuse the privallage and join mass amounts of blogrings basically destroying the server space. But I don’t find this to be a very fair argument. You vamped up the picture usage to 250 MB a month, which I can highly guarantee you would kill up a lot more server space than joining a few blogrings would. And 10 blogrings to be able to join would be nice… I could see on one side how it’s like “Okay, but then people will still want more, if Xanga shows that they’re willing to change the number of blogrings, it’ll just create a demand for more.” Hmm, yes, true I guess, but for anyone who complains about the current number of blogrings, 2 extra is better than nothing… it could be a silent update as well… just sort of silently update the number; have it be a pleasent surprise to people and a quick dismay to those who may be attempting to abuse the blogring number at that point in time.
At any rate, perhaps I am foolishley ranting on, because I realize that other than my annoyance for this one time, my justification doesn’t hold exactly strong. BUT, I suppose for argumentation sake, what’s the worse it could do? If anything, it’d just serve as a pleasent little upgrade, I suppose. There’s nothing really bad that could come out of it, as far as I can see. And if the update was kept silent, I can almost guarantee you that that alone wouldn’t put too much of a strain on the servers… especially since Xanga’s servers no doubt take in 1000′s of tarabytes even, I’m sure.
Hmm, I apologize for this comment being fairly long… but, I suppose my opinion has been clearly expressed, etc. Whether anything will be done, is doubtful, but who knows? Only time shall tell, and time my friend, is man’s biggest fear, joy, mystery, and enemy.

i know i’m late, but i haven’t had internet access for a little while. as far as the colour goes, i have no opinion. i was actually writing to give props on the idea even though my psp doesn’t display it correctly. an option to continue using the original would be greatly appreciated seeing as a psp version would be a waste of time. lol! i’m probly one of the only xangans to post entirely from my psp.

I dig all three but being a minimalist by nature I would probably go with #1. Since they are all mostly created already why not set it up to have a color swapper? Course I didn’t look at the code so I don’t know if thats stylesheet or not =P
Went back and looked and yeah it does seem to be CSS based for layout (thank god) so I again say “Theme Swapper!” well ok I didn’t say exactly that last time but umm well you know.

i still think that it should be connected to our layout code. Like, if you have a Xanga CLassic layout the dash would sorta look like that, and if you had a layout like this it would look like that. You know what I mean? If you can make that first module of a regular layout (regular meaning non-custom module and not a top box layout) with all those links that only show up on the private page. And that first one bends to our layouts will, then how come the dash can’t?
Because if you make all the dashes look the same, it would make it kinda like livejournal…
and we don’t want that now do we? I’m on xanga because I dont LIKE livejournal. Or Myspace. Or Blogger. Or any of those other ones…
Xanga is one of its own. Why try to conform it now?

you know what u need to really work on…a way to load your own music to your site from your pc,instead of using host web site that really don’t work or have what u want. i will asure you that it will be a hit with users and you might be able to charge a bit more.

Suggestion:
Could you make an option where you can delete mass #s of entries more easily?
Or an option where you can make many entries private easier instead of going through each entry and clicking private.
Every so often I like to clear everything and start over. So I guess if there was a lil button somewhere that said, “Make all entries private: Yes or No?” I would really appreciate that!

I really REALLY don’t like the Xanga Dash thing. It takes a LONG time for it to load, and it just looks ugly. The reason I make my xanga look all nice is so *I* can see it as well, not just readers who come in and such.
Please take it off…it’s extremely irritating. I want my old xanga back. If that means unsubscribing to Premium, then I’ll gladly do that. Seriously.

Hi John, I’m a bit late but would have voted for number 3 but to be honest, they all looked good.
I have a problem I am wondering if you have heard any other complaints on. Photos keep disappearing from my stored photos and then they don’t show up on my blog, naturally as they appear as gone in my stored files. I am on cable, I don’t have problems loading pages and I don’t think it has to do with me but something happening in my photo storage. Today, my page of 5 blogs showing as missing photos all down through the blogs. The photos missing on the page are missing in my storage of photos. If I reload them from my computer, they show up with the new upload then when it happens again, they are gone again. Does that make sense? Anyway, this is a question as well as a message concerning a problem I have been watching happen for a pretty good while now. I just figured it would get fixed in xanga and it wasn’t hurting me. I just loaded them up again to fix the problem. I have considered the possibility that someone is in my Xanga playing games with my things.
